@@NorthernWolf92yeah, sonata arctica was with me through some of the darkest times of my life. I always felt tony’s lyrics in my heart, ever since i first heard the power of one on the silence album. I actually seen sonata live with nightwish years ago, and ran into tony on the side of the street. I said hi, and got a picture with him. The truth is i wanted to say so much to him that night, but i didn’t want to come off as crazy, or a fanatic. I always thought about writing him a letter after that night. I just wasn’t sure on how to go about that. After all of these years i am glad they are still making music.

I feel like the song is a message directly from the band to us, the fans. Tony lied when he said he was going to keep creating the music that he wants to do in his own way, instead they went back to their roots to help us win whatever we are going through. That’s what this band is, a friend that helps you get through hard times. That’s why so many of us are die-hard fans. I've thought about this. On one hand if a band doesn't like the music they produce, they aren't gonna stick around long. Yet the fans who were attracted to a style of music may not be thrilled when things change. I've grown away from a number of bands because of this. It's always great when bands find a way back to their roots.

“Assholes” certainly refers to the “fans” who moaned and cried on the KZbin comments on all Sonata’s albums for the last ten years. “i MiSs tHe oLd SoNaTa” …that crowd. Instead of appreciating a new sound, they whine about every album release
@nicksevenow10 ай бұрын
@@FrakintheboX 10 years ? It's been since 2007's Unia which might be their most creative and complex piece of art to this day. The Days Of Grays is simply fantastic, the overall composition and work with instruments such as organs make it a must-have. I only found Talviyö a bit under, but it still has great songs and I listen to it from time to time. No one has to force themselves to like anything but saying everything after Reckoning Night is bad shows you simply have bad taste or you didn't pay attention to the music. And since the drummer isn't full-speed blasting all the way through 10 songs anymore those whiny lil bitches can't be satisfied so... But this band is way more than just that and if I speak, those self-absorbed elitist metalheads don't like Sonata, they like just 4 of their albums.

What an odd, great little song. Breaks a lot of molds for typical song writing, lyrical rhyme scheme and vocal phrasing are unique and refreshing. It sounds like it could belong on their "Pariahs Child" album, which I think is their supreme masterpiece, not only song wise, but production/sound wise. This new tune is kind of proggy, kind of ballady, Queen esque, and not overly flashy on the bands end, even the guitar solo isn't demanding the listeners attention at the expense of the song as a whole, although I would have liked to hear more ripping considering the guitar is quite tame on this track. Everyone seems to be out of the others way while still contributing to the song. I'll give it a solid 7.1/10. And if is this is a taste of what the new album will be like, I'll be more than satisfied.

The more I listen to this song, the more I get the feeling that it's about drug addiction/depression. They already touched the topic in 2001 song "sing in silence" (the monkey slowly climbed on her back", referring to drug addiction). Many parts of this song remind me of that ("On your shoulder we behold/ A monster only you can't see"..."Can we keep the rain abay/Once you were sliding away/All the way down without a rail/You tried a new way/Driving everyone away/Your eyes cannot lie like your face/There is no glory in disgrace"). This is the vibe I'm getting from this song, and I love it. I could be wrong though, I read in another comment that it could imply a message to us, old fans, being the "assholes" and listening to the song under that perspective, also makes sense. I still think the chorus is a little long, but I really like the verses and weirdly long bridge to the solo. I'm very excited for this album. Song sounds a little more like something you might hear on Pariah's Child rather than early material, but that's fine by me. We'll be getting solid variety in songwriting from the album if these first two songs are any indication. I have no idea what to expect next and that's kind of thrilling. This is definitely a mix between Unia and Talviyo. The former album I love, the latter not as much. One thing that SA fans seem to forget is that even their earlier albums were about 30-40% mid-tempo and ballad tracks. It was not 100% speedy power metal. With that said, I'd be lying if I said this track isn't overall a bit of a letdown - not because of its speed, but simply the melodic punch isn't there. It's not a bad song by any means, though, and the keys are quite nice.

Tony is challenging the fans again... Listen to the latest Nightwish, and they have more of a mature and a bit eccentric way of doing the lyrical melodies, to which maybe Tony is taking partial direction on... It is seemingly different but familiar, and I think that is part of the goal here... Maybe some Queen inspiration is thrown in for good measure as well...
@sarandaperez39239 ай бұрын
I discovered SA during their TDOG-album and went back to their whole catalogue. I easily called them my favorite band for years because I could relate so much to the deep lyrics, the dark and layered music, the heart-breaking ballads aswell as the energetic power metal songs. Still, their midtempo songs were my favorites (Blinded No More, Gravenimage, Broken,...) Since SGHN, I am having a hard time to connect to their songs. Not because they are bad (because they surely aren't) but I felt a certain switch in the depth of the lyrics and melody lines. The older lyrics were very open to imagination and everyone could interpret their own meaning and emotions into them despite the fact that Tony had his very own stories behind them. The lyrics now tend to be straight forward, and if you can't connect to the topic, you're out. For example, I don't have kids, so how can I relate to songs like I Have A Right or A Little Less Understanding? But since I'm a very lyric-driven person, this is an important point for me. The only thing that could help me out is a heartfelt melody that gets stuck in my mind and soul. I could only find a few of these in the later albums. Of course, there are exceptions, like Til Death's Done us Apart or We Are What We Are. Long story short, I am looking very forward to the new album in big hopes for more soul hymns :)
