..or you could see it as the current best solution for someone who travels a lot and wants a really respectable mini pc on the go while having a basically high end gaming system if connected to an egpu. the pcie 5.0 slot is a game changer, it should equal to pci-e 3.0 x16 slot bandwidth whise and it should give around 97% of the performance compared to a normal pci-e 4.0 x16 slot. a 7745hx would definetly be enough for someone that doesn't want to expand the system further but i can't see how lower they could go with the price even if they wanted to.

Here are a couple of things I noticed in your video: PCIe slot identification: The slot shown in your video with the factory-installed SSD is actually a PCIe 5.0 slot. The one you pointed out as being empty is PCIe 4.0. I'm familiar with this PC and confirmed this in a Minisforum video on how to install RAM and SSDs. Maximum RAM: This PC can actually support up to 96GB of RAM at 5200MHz.

At the moment, the prices for this (in my country) is really good when you compare this to what I believe is one of the products its replacing. I own the NUCXi7 by Minisforum, a fantastic PC still that I use for 1080p gaming that still performs way above my expectations (can happily run Forza Horizon 5 at 4K 60 on high) so this as a replacement for people who missed out on the NUCXi7 is rather nice. Yeah I'm comparing AMD to Nvidia but from my understanding, the RX 6700 XT is about 18% faster than the RTX 3070 Mobile and for what I paid for the NUCXi7 you can get this G7 Pt for the same price. Only downside is its not really a replacement if you already own the NUCXi7.
@bluetech28095 ай бұрын
Basically you're getting roughly the performance of the NUCXi7 but in a smaller form factor, since the 7600M XT (not to be confused with the more powerful 6700 XT) seems to be roughly equal to the RTX 3070 Mobile, but I remember Minisforum was selling the NUCXi7 at discount (before it sold out or they discontinued it) for a lot less than what they're launching the Atom G7 at.
@TBMartin5 ай бұрын
@@bluetech2809 My mistake then if you are right, you probably are. I will argue though that this not smaller per say. To me width is more important than depth so I wouldn't be able to slot in the G7 in the same place my NUCXi7 sits but I have more of a chance of being able to slot the NUCXi7 in the same place the G7 used to sit. Right now where my NUCXi7 is, I can't fit anything else in that same place because that new "mini PC" would be "fatter"
@bluetech28095 ай бұрын
@@TBMartin Yeah I'd have to see both products in person or revisit the exact dimensions, maybe in total volume terms they are the same. I would actually prefer the NUCXi7 because it's thinner, you could sort of put it into a (ventilated) holder on the underside of your desk and have it out of sight, whereas the G7 would "stick out" because of its fatness as you said.

there's a "new brand" called minimaker which is trying to bring a mini pc (turbo mini x) which has a proprietary port for an external gpu case that they'll also sell (streamplay x) which is apparently as close to a normal internal gpu connection you're going to get in terms of speed/performance (better than thunderbolt and oculink). b760 chipset that supports new generations 65w processors too. you do have to get the components yourself (processor, ram, storage), but the pc and gpu case seem to be pretty cheap from what I've read, so that shouldn't be a big issue... might wait for that one, considering an external gpu case actually allows for gpu upgrades down the line if/when needed, and if you look for it you'll see that it actually looks pretty neat imo! just got confirmation from them, today, that they're in talks with european suppliers to try and sort that out 😉

Do you need OCuLINK when this has a GPU that's capable of running Forza Horizon 5 at 4K 60? Just one example of why its not needed, especially when USB 5 is around the corner/already kind of here and will make OCuLINK look old and slow by the time you want to use an eGPU instead of updating the whole system. Plus costs will be the same for both options.
@drewnewby5 ай бұрын
@TBMartin For this price, yes, Oculink should be included, given the strong CPU and relatively weak GPU. Why would someone buy this then upgrade again just for USB 5 shortly after, that's crazy. Wait for Thunderbolt 5, or expect current devices like this to have Oculink.
@TBMartin5 ай бұрын
@@drewnewby No, it shouldn't be included. It's primary purpose is servers, not eGPU's and you have fallen into the trap of thinking you need something because someone else is supplying it. You buy/have an external eGPU enclosure for this? Why when the GPU is more than capable of 1440p gaming, you are going to need to upgrade that enclosure down the line to be in line with the latest technical offerings anyway. By the time you need to look at an external eGPU for this because the GPU isn't cutting it anymore, it's too late. Buy a portable eGPU and you just limit yourself to that connection and that generation of laptop GPU.
@drewnewby5 ай бұрын
@TBMartin You're clearly not in industry, I'll assume an SFF'er. Oculink is not primarily for servers. It was developed by PCI-SIG themselves as a lower cost open-source solution to Thunderbolt. The 7600M XT is not a 1440p part, regardless of your wishful thinking. No one mentioned a portable eGPU with mobile chip. Maybe you think those from GPD are all that exists? Oculink is for connecting a much more powerful desktop GPU of any generation via a dock. If you want to wait for USB5 to replace your older Minisforum device that's fine. Current devices at this price point should include Oculink to extend their use regardless of your personal interest to wait.
