False colour is that thing you aren't sure about... learn to use it... its one of the most useful features this monitor has, especially for nailing skin exposure as a wedding videographer.

4:30 That thing you though was for night shooting is false colors and it's probably the BEST way to ensure proper light.

@@timojanssen1733 it's particularly useful to see where bright spots are clipping or where you'd get noise in shadows. IMO, a lot easier to use than waveforms. If something appears red, you're clipping. Whatever is green it's perfectly exposed, and I forgot what color is for shadows but you don't wanna be there either. The color grade is on the side of the monitor so you'll know which colors I'm talking about. Cheers and keep it up!

Exactly, i just don't get it, you cannot use AF Tracking or Face Detection while you have this monitor plug into the camera, but that's a camera problem

Black screen problem for the Sony a7iii 4k 25fsp : I tested the Shinobi with the Sony a7siii Wich has an HDMI output for the monitor and there was no problem while recording in 4k 25 or 60 fps. I guess the problem with the sony a7iii is, it has no HDMI output for the monitor so the Cable is just to weak I guess... Hope this will help you guys, let me know cheers !! 💥

No, it's not an issue with the cable. It's just a limitation of the monitor. The Shinobi only accepts a 4K 30fps signal through HDMI...you can always adjust the output signal of the camera to 1080p, for example, so you can still view the output image from the camera whilst recording in the 4K format of your desire.

There is no problem with either cam. I have both and I have no issues with either. Try setting the HDMI resolution to auto

@@tdub303 Maybe you could help me with something. I bought an atomos shinobi to use with my Sony a7sIII, but every monitoring mode I try to use comes out super contrasty and over saturated. When I try to monitor S-log3 S-Gamut.cine with a conversion Lut on the Shinobi it clips the highlights and the shadows, but if I record a clip and use the same Lut in my editing software this doesn't happen. I've tried contacting atomos about this but they haven't answered me yet, and my 30 day return time is running out. My question is, has this ever happened to you? Do you think I have a faulty model?

@@Berna75 try using a monitoring LUT rather than a conversion LUT. That is what I currently use.

@@tdub303 that's what I ment. It's just a Lut that turns the image from flat to neutral, when I use it in premiere, resolve or obs it works just fine, but on the Shinobi it acts completely different. I've also tried other luts, tecnical and creative ones and all of them add contrast that is not added in any editing software

If I wanted to record 4k 120fps or 4k 60fps internally on my a7siii which I do all the time now, and then get this Atomos Shinobi as my external monitor (just so I can see easier), am I still able to record at 4k 120fps and 4k 60fps internally with the shinobi plugged in? Or it visually can’t display 4k 60fps/120fps, how does that work?? Please help!

Hey, I tested this on the Sony a7siii it will work for 4k 60fps and you need a HDMI to HDMI cable.

Hey! I'm glad to see you're European and I have a question. Does the camera screen go black (so you can only see the footage on Shinobi's screen) when you start recording in 4k 25p with Sony? I have this problem with the Andycine A6 plus and it's a huge facepalm after I bought the monitor...

Thanks for the vid. I’m in UK and have bought Shinobi for use with Sony A7SII. Mostly outdoor run and gun shoulder rig in bright light. Feel like what I’ve gained in nailing fine focus I’ve lost in pretty much every other vital display. I can’t see if I’m recording! I can’t see how much card I have left! I feel like I’ve been sold a right pup. I shoot 4K as these (extremely popular) cameras have offered for years. The work around is shielding the mostly blacked out camera LCD from sunlight to cop a gaze at the vitals which adds faff just when I don’t need it. Help!

I never experienced this problem, but I live in the Netherlands it's not that hot over there 😂 If it is getting hot and doesn't turn off automatically I would not worry to much about it. Good luck 🤞

It does not record internally, you’ll still be recording on your camera directly. It has a headphone monitor output though if that helps. For me, recording audio externally, not an issue. I don’t need to show clients a playback of content most of the time but if you do for some reason, you could either bring headphones along for the ride or grab a monitor with speakers built in.

I just returned the Shinobi. There is a bug in the Shinobi that there is no change on the waveform or other tools after applying the luts. The tools are only showing the raw input value. Do you have that issue? We have the same version of firmware(10.11; build16.08)

@@timojanssen1733 You will see all the tools just give the same value after applying the lut. Atomos confirmed that all the tools just show the value of the original image. Atomos said they may update the firmware to get that function.

@@fanfan9768 That actually makes sense, since those "scope" values reflect the signal recorded by the camera. Just like the camera display screen, the image is a representation, of the signal. Like the JPEG displayed on the back of the camera when you take a RAW file picture. Basically, your LUT is the "JPEG" translation of the camera image that is not recorded. However, if the scope values say you've exceeded the exposer limit (Blown highlights), then that is what will be recorded by your camera in the end if you don't offset with iso, aperture, etc.

Is there a way to use touch focus (for the lens to focus where you tap) on the Atomos screen? Liked for example tap the Atomos screen and have the lens focus where I tap, like it would if I tapped (with touch focus on) wherever I touch on the a7siii monitor?

Yes, but displayed in 1080p. It’s a 1080p max monitor but you’ll be recording in 4K.

Set HDMI resolution to auto. Set HDMI info Display to OFF. You will get a full screen display on the SHinobi and the cam info will be on the camera LCD screen.

It's a sony feature, it's not atomos's fault. An no, you can't do anything about it, regarding the monitor you're using.

In addition to the reply from Kevin, if anyone is using this as a reference monitor for filming, you wouldn't want the camera info on your screen anyway. It's not possible to the reference tools effectively if you've got a load of writing and jargon being outputted from the camera. The screen works as it should!!
