Hi, when recording at 4k50p, is it better to downscale to 1080 50p or 4k 30p. What's the difference actually? U mentioned the Shinobi only outputs at 1080p? Thanks

I love my Shinobi. Its essential for HLG recording. However, I could not figure out how to play footage on the Shinobi. One of the features I was expecting was to be able to review/watch my content. I guess thats where the Ninja V holds better as its a recorder.

Hi guys Could this be used as a substitute for my camera rear screen I only take stills, not video I have a problem with my sight that glasses correction doesn't help , the view in the camera back even with the mag up to 10x I still struggle to focus on the 3in screen I was hoping the Atmos screen would work better any info would be much appreciated

The video assist will be the best option. It can also record prores to a sd card for other cameras and redundancy for bmpcc 4k (1080p only), and can control you camera. But if you're cheap like me then go shinobi. Ive see a lot of reviews saying the hd focus 5 is very fragile. Ive heard very good things otherwise about both but the shinobi is brighter. I do know the video assist, shinobi, and focus 5 will suite most everyones needs in a monitor. The shinobi is also 10 bit too so the shinobi just seemed to win it for me. Wish I could afford a video assist.

I shoot with gh5 and gh6 mostly 4K 60P ...Not sure exactly what you mean when you say to view those slow mo clips. Are you meaning clips in frame rates higher then 30P? Is 1080 better the auto downsizing?

The way I looked at it, the benfits of the Ninja V is the recording abilities, getting 4k 60p 10bit from the GH5/s. But if you don't intend to do that, then there is nothing wrong with recording to the internal SD cards. The Shinobi is lighter and has better battery life. So if your looking for a tool to help nail your exposure, then I think the Shinobi is the better buy for the GH5/s. Especially when you factor in that the Ninja V will cost twice as much or more when you include hard drives. Just to get that extra 30p? Only you can decide.

Shinobi has problem with loading luts. I will sell my own. After i load my lut i got a crushy to contrasty image its not able to correctly monitoring. Strange thing: if is load the same lut on camera shinobi can show correctly. Only problem with this method when i want use scopes because its show the complete image with lut, not the log.

Great! Thanks for the review. I have 2 GH5 bodies, but only one SmallHD Focus. I need another monitor for the second camera, and have been debating between the Ninja V and another SmallHD. Now I'm debating between the Ninja V and this. My question to you would be, do you think it's worth the extra $300 to sort of Future-Proof your monitor? We have severe bright sunshine in Thailand. Is a hood necessary?

Hi Ian. You may want to get a hood to help with the reflections from the brighter conditions. It's always best to have precautions laid out. It's also worth noting that with the 1,000nits brightness, it may seem like a dim display outdoors, at times. If that is a problem, I would recommend looking in to the Atomos Shinobi 7, as it has 2,200nits brightness, which is a lot brighter. I hope this helps! - Shawn

Thank you for this nice reviews. I can't decide between the Swit cm-55 and the shinobi (It' not about the brightness). Can you say someting about functionality, mainly Display Quality(??), accurat Colors (only if one is very showy), which one has a darker display for blacks, important function differences? sadly the shinobi can't be arm mounted. And, does someone have a Image capture funktion with the sd card? (I find this so useful to compair looks direkt on set, without a big post production planend!) Thanks!

Great device. Sold my SmallHD501 for the Shinobi. Really liked the fact, that it can use the better Sony-batteries, great OS with previews for HDR and LUTs on my Sony A7III and the build quality is extraordinary.

@@KristianHampton Are you sure? The reason I ask is because on every other external monitor that you use with the A7III, the camera turns face detection box off, the second you plug in a monitor. The only one I know that works is the Ninja V, and that is because it records externally. Good to hear that one works too.
