AtomRC Dolphin 6S FASTEST ON YOUTUBE (VERSION 2)

So, i have been called out by a channel called "Jeff does this..." stating that my top speed claims are inaccurate and false. I set out to prove Jeff wrong and as a result i crashed my original AtomRC Dolphin 6s FASTEST ON KZbin due to mushy control surfaces. I have rebuilt, flew and proved that this setup is indeed the fasted setup on youtube in this video all within one week. Turns out Jeff is a pretty cool guy and only treating this as a little fun. Excellent build ! Curious how you painted yours and was able to get the paint to stick to the foam. I have tried painting ATOMRC kits twice and it seems I cannot get the paint to adhere. Just eventually flakes off. Thanks

@alcmann, I clean the surface I want to paint 2/3 times using isopropyl alcohol to remove the mold release agent. Make sure to change the cloth each time as the release agent sticks to the cloth. I also paint with Rustoleum aerosol as it takes well to the foam. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment….Rotor Flex

@@ttucker2073 with the correct motor/ prop combo you could beat my dolphin record no problem. Just remember to upgrade the servos and elevons to handle the extra air speed as I learned that the hard way😂

I like the clean bulding! Motor is still a FIVE33 2207 2070KV Champions Edition? What size of lipo do you use? 6S 1800 mAh? Thanks for your answer!

Hey henry3618, yes still using the FIVE33 2207 2070kv champ edition, great little motor so far and seems well built. I’m using different batteries such as custom build Molicel P45B 21700 (6s config) and I have an old 1500mah 6s lipo. I should really invest in a new lipo for this but hate paying the postage prices for lipos here in the uk. Molicel perform very well but still not as good as a high C rating lipo.

Would a tmotor f60 2020kv be a good Choice or 6s? Occasionally 4s since i have so many. I have a brand new motor from a old race quad that needs a home.

Hey squirrelynutz1, TMotor’s are a fantastic motor and there F series are great. I run a set on my quad with zero issues. You will need to think about what size of prop/props you are going to use, especially if you are using different voltage battery packs. Hi. What is you auto launch speed set to. I want to build a 6s but don’t want torque roll during take off. Was thinking to set the launch to about 1700, idle at 1500. What are your settings. Thanks

Hey ttucker2073, it depends on a number of factors such as airframe weight, motor and propeller combo and battery size. If you are building a custom dolphin it’s best to configure the launch settings to suit your own airframe by holding it vertical and finding the sweet spot on the throttle where it just about wants to climb. Mr D - falling with style does a great video on the above technique. The auto launch for my build is 1750 but bare in mind my airframe is much lighter than standard with a high kv motor. @@torquedude great thank you. I will be possibly using a cobra motor, think 2350kv or a t-motor 2600kv. So will be high kv and want to go 6s. But will normally fly 5s. Possibly 4s2p (p42) also for long slow flight.

FpvBerget, thanks for your comment. The area that we fly has a constant decline towards the sea. The approach to the field requires the crossing of a roadway, trees and power lines, keep an eye on the artificial horizon and you’ll see that there is little negative pitch with a last second pull out before I meet the ground running uphill. I could do these runs up higher but doesn’t make for a good video in my eyes as I like to capture the speed run from the ground.

Hey davidwanj, they are BetaFPV Pavo Series COB LED Strip lights. Super flexible and stick on. Easy to use but you need to select what fixed colour you want as they are not RGB type.

I am surprised how stable your Dolphin flies at these speeds. Apart from your Elevon mod, do you have any other special settings in iNAV that make your Dolphin fly so smoothly? It would be nice if you could share yor settings. I fly my Dolphin with a 6s 1400 battery, 2807 1500 KV motor with a 7" 4.5 prop. When I am high on the throttle my Dolphin bounces around and it does not feel very stable in horizon/acro mode.

CptPotti, skinning the Elevons made a massive difference to the top speed stability but another thing to consider is any external attachments creating turbulence and will definitely cause instability at high speeds. My inav settings are the same as what comes on the original atomrc 405 wing board and been copied across onto the speedybee 405 wing fc. I cant remember of the top of my head but I think atomrc add there own profiles to all their boards depending on what airframe you buy from them. The only thing I have done regarding the inav tuning is an auto tune but no PID’s adjusted from what came on the board. I can still give you a copy of the PID’s from my board if you want? Hope you get it flying nice at high speeds soon 👍

​@@torquedude I bought the kit version of the Dolphin, so I don't have any AtomRC stock settings. So far I fly with the standard Inav settings + the PIDs after the autotune. I would be delighted if you would share the AtomRC settings with me. Maybe that will improve the flight characteristics a bit. The Dolphin is my first RC airplane, so I still have a lot to learn. The only external attachment I have is my complete O3 air unit. However, I would like to keep the air unit outside, as cooling is otherwise very difficult. The bouncing only occurs in Acro / Horizon mode, in manual mode my Dolphin flies well even at high speeds. Since I mainly use my Dolphin for cruising, I want to get a good tune for the stabilized flight modes.

You’re not testing the true speed of the actual aircraft if you’re diving, anything can dive and go faster and from any height can get more speed. Yes, it’s a fast plane or wing whatever you wanna call it. The only thing was that suck about wings is there stability is shit.
