Knowledge of heelhook defense and offense is enough to prefer the leg across in the traditional 50/50 position. Neither athlete involved in a 50/50 (under a ruleset that fully allows all leg locks) cannot conventionally escape the position without risking an immediate tap for exposing one's own heel. Foot on the outside gives dexterity and base to the top opponent, and the inside heel hook is then traded for an outside one, which is trickier to find and less effective as the level of competition increases. Many top competitors have given up their back when digging for the outside heel hook, or get their guard passed for staying in the position for too long.

I think outside sankaku makes the most sense, or reverse honeyhole
