Just got my garrett gtx2860r gen II installed, and finished tuning by Edge Autosport. Otherwise Full bolton, stock fuel system. This video is on e30, although this thing screams on 93 octane as well. I attempted to pedal it in 2nd to keep it off the limiter, but this thing rips! BT

Tire choice plays a role here. I switched to DWS06 tires and it would hook at 40mph after. I made a brief video about that, check it out.

Hell yes this is exactly what im planning on doing. Did you upgrade the internals of the motor at all? Im not planning on it but at the same time i need it as a daily driver so im a bit unsure on what to do. How much power do you think you're making with the e85 & 93 octane? Im nervous to go any higher than 380 whp lol

Stock engine, stock fuel system. It all depends on how well you take care of the car, your tuner, and how you drive the car (like not accelerating hard below 1/4 tank of fuel). This is my daily and I'm in the same boat. This power is only at 22psi. So in theory, rhe turbo should live and the engine should live. Vdyno numbers on 93 are 340whp and e30 are 370whp.

Very cool. I'm a little wary of going to a 93 tune, though. I'm on long trips occasionally and finding 93 isn't always easy. Combine that with a smallish fuel tank and I get nervous.
@GTkyle
@GTkyle 2 жыл бұрын
Most tuners will give you multiple slots to choose from. You use your cruise control switch to cycle through the slots on the fly. They could tune for 93 then give you a 91 tune as well with less timing. Just click over to the 91 tune for road trips.

How noticeable of a difference between the powermax and this on e30?? Worth the extra money in your opinion? Thing rips 🙌🔥
@GTkyle
@GTkyle 2 жыл бұрын
Massive difference. Not only peak, but the powerband is so much wider with this turbo, it pulls so much harder above 5500rpm than the powermax but still has really good punch down low as well as low boost responsiveness and street manners. Absolutely worth the extra money. Even this turbo on 93 feels so much better than the powermax on e30. I'm not downing the powermax, if thats your price range its a good choice for a little extra punch, but I'd go this route if you are willing to invest the extra.

As soon as you go stage 3 it needs some form of boost by gear or boost by speed. No point having the power if you can't put it down to the bitumen.

What else did you need for the big turbo upgrade? Also Did you upgrade charge pipes and which bov/bpv and where did you put it?
@GTkyle

All you need is an intercooler, high flow air filter, and the BOV option of your choice. There have been pa handful of people that use stock downpipe an exhaust successfully in the 350whp range (which is max limit for stock fuel). I made my own bypass valve setup using the stock charge pipes on the hot side pipe and into the inlet of the turbo. Here's my how to www.focusst.org/threads/how-to-custom-bypass-valve-setup-for-your-big-turbo-st-at-less-than-half-the-cost.166431/ Also you need a Junits/scooter cantweld elbow if you buy an ATP turbo kit. www.focusst.org/threads/custom-turbo-elbow-for-your-big-turbo-st-why-you-need-one-and-how-to-get-one-the-junits-elbow.166428/unread

@GTkyle
@GTkyle 11 ай бұрын
Spinning at 60, yes. I had since put much better tires on, in a newer video (see my page) you can see it would just scratch the tires between 40 and 50mph versus doing a big burnout. I had mods that weren't necessary to make this kind of horsepower, but usually you can go from stock to this kind of power for around 4,000 including purchase of the accessport and tune. Yes I was protuned. The car was a blast, I've since sold it and got back into the diesel realm, I do miss it though. Needed better MPG for my long commute

@GTkyle 11 ай бұрын
@@dannythompson1948 no sir! Basically the turbo, upgraded intercooler, better air filter (stock intake), and an external BOV or bypass option. I built my own bypass valve setup. Really that's it. Stock exhaust is good to this power, and there's a bunch of guys that will just run a downpipe hooked to the stock exhaust running big turbo. This horsepower is the limit of the stock fuel system. But most guys add an aux fuel rail to get them into the 400s on ethanol mixes. That's about 1200 bucks. Stock in-tank pump is good to 500whp, which is built engine territory anyway. It's a really good platform aside from being FWD.

Is this on the stock open diff? Or do you have an LSD installed? Eventually I want to go with this same turbo, but even on my otherwise-stock ST with just a tune, it's already in dire need of an LSD so that's what I'm going to do before anything else haha
@GTkyle
@GTkyle Жыл бұрын
Yes this is the stock diff. I have a Wavetrac in the car now, which made almost no difference in a straight line. It still absolutely kills the tires just the same as this video. The LSD made a huge difference throttling out of corners and down curved on-ramps though. I'd still upgrade the turbo first, way more smiles per dollar. Unless of course you autocross or do open track events all the time.
@bwiren13
@bwiren13 Жыл бұрын
@@GTkyle hey awesome thanks for the reply! I do autocross the car regularly. I’m thinking my first mod will be an MFactory LSD, then an intercooler, and I’ll probably see how long I can live with the stock turbo after that. I really like the allure of added power, but even the stock turbo makes way too much torque for FWD to put down mid-corner haha. I gather that optimizing the car’s ability to put down power is the best first move.
@GTkyle
@GTkyle Жыл бұрын
@@bwiren13 I'd do the intercooler first (assuming the class you run allows them), or do the IC and LSD at the same time. You'll be amazed the difference it makes throttling out of a sharp corner. But I agree. Front wheel drive sucks and there's no way around that. Big turbo won't really help you on those tight courses. But I'm a highway commuter so I need the passing power.

So how would you compare how it "feels" in the seat wise, compared to like a stage 1 e30 tune on k03
@GTkyle
@GTkyle 2 жыл бұрын
Well the e30 stage 1 will torque spike and fall off rapidly. You also heatsoak badly with the stock intercooler and lose power as you are progressing through the pull. You're probably not noticing this since it's all you've been used to, but you're losing power badly. The gen 2 2860 has the same punch initially but it keeps you pinned in the seat until redline. It becomes an entirely different animal. Also highway pulls are fulfilling and doesn't run out of breath like the k03 does. Every ST needs a turbo upgrade. In the meantime, do your engine a favor and get your intercooler high flow air filter (stock airbox) and downpipe. Don't worry about a cat back or cold air intake, just the essentials.

The car was my daily and reliability was priority number 1 for me. Part of your reliability comes with the tuner. I chose Alan at Edge Autosport because his tuning style isn't like others'. He tunes on the lower boost/higher timing philosophy which nets the same power numbers but is easier on the engine and turbo. Make sure you purchase an Arc Enemy Fab/Scooter Cantweld elbow for this turbo before installing it. The ATP elbow can lead to a cracked cylinder head due to the port mismatch.
