All these ignorant people hating on Murray calling him the worst #1. a) All the top players can be taken out of the first round by lower seeded players (even *gasp* Federer (not saying he's a bad player, one of the GOAT)) b) Illness and Injury is a thing that happens, can't be the best when you're recovering (try playing in all GS whilst being sick) c) Put all your effort in 2016 and fatigue is bound to show later on, that's what Murray has done Give it a rest guys, we all know he's not the worst #1, he just appears to be outshone by great players of his time. If Fed, Djok, Nadal weren't around Murray's GS total would be much higher, combine this with

Is nobody gonna mention that volley pick up at 0:40. That awkward looking motion, as though he was electic shocked by the ball, was anything but textbook, but it produced an enormous amount of back spin that prevented the very quick Murray to even try to run and get it. That's *outrageous* talent! Instead everybody here is only commenting on how Murray is the worst number 1. I'm not an old person, but does no one here know Rafter, Moya, Rios, Kafelnikov...? Do these commenters even play or watch the game? FFS.
@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviour7 жыл бұрын
leiya107 I am not even old enough to have seen those players and it's still obvious he isn't the worst number 1. But let's be honest he's had a horrible run so far.
@leiya1077 жыл бұрын
I'm old enough to have watched those short-lived number 1's I mentioned. And you know what, I like them all (maybe not Rios, he's good, but he's *that* good). I believe Hewitt or Roddick has a similar reign of being number 1 as Murray in terms of numbers, they're both undisputed great players (although some here would argue Roddick was rubbish). Anybody who could give Djokovic a run for his money in 2015-16 should be given way more respect than is given here in the comments section. I'm not a Murray fan myself (I find his style a bit boring, and this is from someone who liked watching Kafelnikov...), but whoever is talking smack about Murray is just another way of saying "I know nothing about tennis. I don't even watch the game. I just see results and numbers and talk smack." Again, FFS.
@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviour7 жыл бұрын
leiya107 I am a Murray fan as a Brit I feel like I have grown up with him in a way. I remember watching him for the first time against Nalbandian at Wimbledon and he came so close in five sets. Yeah he is not as good as Federer or Nadal I guess Djokovic too. But I think people forget these are probably the best players of all time. He's done an incredible job imo just to keep plucking away despite being outclassed fairly often. I love the rest of the big four as well, but often they seem a lot less human to me than Murray. As a fellow tennis player it's easy to relate to his frustration.
@joshjones50627 жыл бұрын
great comment if only more people had your view.
@leiya1077 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah, definitely 100% agree with you on the relatable part. You can see how he maximises his limited resources (the building-up of muscles and the beefing up of his first serves are among the most commendable, almost touching, feats in his career) which we all have to do in varying degrees if we play the game. You may want to check out the new video put out by Tennis Now where McEnroe is reported to have said he is surprised that Murray even got to number 1 and that he's no doubt a Big 4 but a distant 4. Taken out of context these comments may be misconstrued as rubbishing Murray. But I actually take them the opposite way. McEnroe is implying despite the presence of 3 of the best players of all time Murray still managed to beat all of them for at least a year. I think it's a testament to how good a player Murray actually is. A little dip is inevitable. Anyone has at least one of those. I'm sure he will bounce back and there's still chance for him to retain a top 4 ranking. I think if he ends the year being number 4 that wouldn't be so bad.

These rare shock losses happen to everyone. See Federer vs Donskoy 2017, Haas vs Federer 2017, Istomin vs Djokovic 2017, Querrey vs Nadal 2017, etc. Yet only Murray is attacked. Why? Just because you think his style is boring and hate to see him being successful (#1 in the world). Sorry but you don't spend 26+ weeks as world number 1 in the midst of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, etc unless you're a great player.

bob lavey rare? OMG HAHAHA RARE? In 6-7 months he has lost to zverev, pospisil, Ramos vinolas, coric, fognini (but I'm not going to count that since fignini should be top 10) and now this guy? He also nearly lost in Dubai (had to save match points) I'm sorry but these are facts. These losses are piling up hard against ppl not in top 20
@jenniferou_7 жыл бұрын
And I'm sorry to say that even Djokovic (which has been shit) has not lost to so many players who aren't in top 10. Take his losses, istomin was horrific but then its Kyrgios, Goffin, Nadal, thiem, Alex zverev. All these guys are very elite. But murrays losses against bad players are consistent. How can you expect to stay number 1???

KIN THE FORM HE IS IN NOW, NADAL CAN BEAT ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SURFACE DOESN'T MATTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@gmonster4617 жыл бұрын
I don't really recall health or form issues in 2013-14 when he came in the French champ, maybe I'm wrong about the health part, but Nadal on grass is like Fed on clay now. Basically the same, both have 5 finals on their worst surface but Nadal's won twice and Fed once. It's all these aggressive players that take out Nadal early, Rosol played big, Darcis came in, Kyrgios played big, and Brown came in and hit big. Now I'll admit Federer wouldn't beat Nadal on clay this year, but if they are drawn together, Nadal's not going to win especially if Federer reaches his form from the first quarter because of 2 reasons, Federer's best surface and Nadal's worst

"He played his very best tennis at his peak". Why thank you Captain Obvious. He clearly isn't on Rafa, Roger, Novak's level of domination but he's far from the worst #1 ever. Far better than Rios, Rafter, Moya etc. Murray's been to 9 GS Finals. That's more than those guys put together. Maybe give credit to Thompson?

+Lorgx Bullshit. I don't know why you people let your hatred of Murray cloud your judgement. Murray has always clearly been the best player on the tour aside from Federer/Djokovic/Nadal who are three of the greatest ever. He has an 11-14 record against Federer who is arguably the best ever. Murray is better than a lot of former #1s like Courier, Hewitt, Roddick, Kafelnikov, Rios, Muster, etc.

Well now! Nos 1, 2, 3 seeds gone in one afternoon in ideal playing conditions. All lost in straight sets. The wins were not difficult, Thompson was always a bit better than Murray and stayed with him through many long rallies; AM was well below part, nothing like No1 or 5-time winner on these courts. Total wipe out in set 2. Raonic was out hit and out served and Warwrinka played at times like he did not quite know how to play on grass.

If you think so you're incredibly delusional. Murray has consistently been the best player on tour aside from 3 of the greats of all time Federer/Djokovic/Nadal. He even almost has an equal h2h against Fed with 11-14 and gives all of them a challenge.
@joshjones50627 жыл бұрын
Murray actually won slams and masters 1000s and if not for the big 3 greats his consistency over the past few years would have got him to number 1 sooner holding two majors for instance at one time in 2013. Murray got a lot of points last year in the second half of the season, winning Wimbledon and pretty much everything after the US Open. Djokovic was the player who got the closest to him last year but has also had a sub-par first half of 2017. In contrast, the players who have done better in 2017 so far (Nadal, Federer) barely accumulated points during the second half of last year. In fact, Wawrinka could have had a great shot at #1 after Wimbledon had he won the RG final.
