They usually do some certain meditation before the show and protected by their ancestors and the universe so they will not get hurt. Hi D, Not to make something Wet, if someone spray water on that. We believe the Water become have Power to Protect,to Cure, to stich etc.(after they chant certain Mantra). D, This also catagorized as Entertainment. Sometimes perform in Wedding, insicition, Inauguration of New local Leader etc. Usually they connected to Martial Arts. Debus.., yep..., one of an olden traditional art in indonesia and maybe in some part of other region around south east asia perhaps..., and it's quite disturbing, isn't it...? Well.., according to their believes.., it got something to do with a mystic or what ever u want to call it..., but like you said..., here, there's some magician say that what they do is all about a trick.., it's dangerous, but practicable..., and they also try to shows / proved by washing their hand with an acid water..., eat a bulb.., slice their hand with a knife..., etc.... However, its up to you which one d'u want to believe..., but, for me my self..., well....., I take that as a traditional art that needs to be preserved and appreciated..., besides, it is fun to watch, right..?
