Welcome to part 2 of my best scout truck showdown. This took a while, hope you enjoy it and can give it some love! As I say in the video, scouts could do with more use in SnowRunner, but they are mostly all fun to use. I rank them from 10 to 1 in my conclusion. Take care!

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the "Scout" role? I mean, a "one-slot" bed for cargo would be awesome, but I feel like a gooseneck trailer hitch would make the Loadstar op. Just my opinion though

Great video, few questions on the LO4F. Would you say it's a half baked idea of a scout, or did it slice through your expectations? In some tests it did rise to the challenge but in others it didn't bring home the dough so it looks like the conclusion is its toast

just got the Loadstar and it is an absolute beast. The thing can go anywhere. As you said it is a bit thirsty but it just doesn't get stuck so you're not burning fuel trying to free it. Great video.

I played the whole game (so far) through without the Khan Marshall, and now I'm using it in the test server on PC so I can play around with the Ford F750. The Marshall probably isn't the best scout once you have them all with all the upgrades, but is it the best scout you will have in the early game, especially when you only have the Chevy CK and Scout 800 as alternatives, which is of course why it is available only if you're prepared to pay extra to have it. It's severely limited by the small fuel tank and inability to pull a trailer, but it can skip across most terrain like a spring lamb to hit watchtowers, get upgrades, and discover those free vehicles in the map. Backed up by another scout (which sticks to safer areas) to keep it fit and fuelled it is excellent.

the fun fact is that Khan Loaf is the only car in this game, that is called the same way in real life "Bukhanka" that means loaf and it was actually called like that by it's designer, and by every one, it is used somewhere as ambulances or even by the police and army, i saw one in real life, i even got in)) and boy it is actually wery bouncy)) when u jump in it and get out it continues to bounce for a bit... and it's wery capable in mud in RL... the don is the Lada NIVA that was a revolutionary car for the time and not only in Russia but for the whole world in it's class, it won many, many rallys and it was sold in many countryes even in USA (in France until 2016) and recently bought by Chevrolet so now it's called just LADA 4x4))) a mission from the gouverment was gave to create a capable on mud car for the ploretariat to some different car manifacture, in the LADA for that they hired a new young engineer to coop with some veterans of constructing a car, he proposed to add and change many things to create a revolutionery car, the veterans didn't want and said to stick with the old and reliable, but at the end the car was the way he wanted and in the contest the winner was LADA... the Khan 39 is the legendary military UAZ, used by the oficials and in ww2, sold and even made today in some countryes. i've seen some of them and they're pretty cool....

No opprobrium from this quarter. All I will say is MUD STICKS, and trucks, especially small trucks, have feelings. The little TUZ is a plucky dung beetle of a scout and as such is not to be despised. The Khan Marshall was my go to scout, but now I’m having second thoughts...This video was a great contribution to the genre and could have been longer! Still it’s best to leave them panting for more.

Great follow up, Ben! I got a good night's sleep in and enjoyed the second half thoroughly. Still early in the myself and still rely on the CK1500 for scouting despite other available options, but I think your number one choic sounds very appealing and I'll be aiming for it next. Every scout to me feels like it needs about 20%-33% less terrain resistance. They are light vehicles, and generally mostly under powered, aka shouldn't sink, (no big american v8 mud culture type vehicles). I haven't tried mods yet, but I bet there's a few out there that fix this, as well as an engine sound pack would be nice. Currently, I use the Voron ae 4380 for absolutely everything in this game now.

@@ATribeCalledCars There are probably thousands for sale here in the US, mostly as scrap, but I know there were a lot exported to Europe and Australia throughout the 60's and 70's. As far as info, I'm really not sure -- there are some forums out there specifically for these old farm trucks with some great information. If you can find one locally, I'd say go for it, provided the rust and fuel costs aren't an issue.

@@ATribeCalledCars Actually, I didn't realize that it's relatively easy to import classic vehicles into the UK (I assume that's where you are). While they often need some work, Loadstars are usually fairly inexpensive (about $1,000-$4,000 USD for running examples). Definitely check them out, if nothing else they're a cool novelty vehicle that not many people own!

Me too, bit of an under-used class of truck once you start upgrading a decent bigger truck such as the Tayga.

Yes it's a pain, but I think this is due to SnowRunner struggling to handle trucks with decent speed. The Tayga suffers from the same problem, especially if you use the Highway gearbox.

Thanks, a great set of tests! I think the only concern I had was that you appeared to driving them the exact same way instead of playing to their individual strengths. It looked liked this caused some DNF, whereas a more 'realistic' SR test would be ride comfort/reliability of arrival over racing the clock. I would have done tipping test fully loaded, as that is when it becomes critical. Thanks for doing all of this though, it must have taken ages to record and edit, so it's appreciated. I can't argue with your line-up, but I would say the icecream truck/Lo4F seems really underrated by most people. If you learn its handling and limitations, it's surprisingly nimble and resilient making it a decent early scout/support vehicle. I just rescued the White Western Star solo with the Lo4F up the north ridge at the dam. It was fine on the steep slopes, but I wouldn't take it rock crawling. Oh, I love your laid-back and relaxed style, so much better than the hyperactive and overdone popular 'POG' style, and your quintessential accent and unique humour keeps me watching. Keep it up, 'you do you' and all that. I really enjoy watching one of your videos just before bed and the sometimes hilarious disjoint between your calmly metered script and the chaos going on in the B-reel is fantastic. What did happen to the Tartarin at the end of the towing test? It looked like it spontaneously exploded...

I feel like chained are the best when possible. While mud tires might has a little edge is mud, the difference is pretty minimal and chained tires are more useful in basically every other aspect.

If anything chains seem to grip better on hard surfaces, which makes sense seeing their meant to dig into ice. Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't chained rated Average for highway use whereas Muds are rated as Poor according to the game stats?

To be fair, despite the quantity and veriety of vehicles in the game, only a small amount of trucks feel proporly useful, and this issue is made worse by the fact that there aren`t that many mud and rock free dirt roads, and even less paved roads in decent conditions, the handling model makes it so that trucks have an unrealisticly low top speeds and are near uncontrolable past 20mph (making highway trucks and any other truck equiped with highway tyres and sometimes even all terrain tyres pretty much useless), and most importantly the fact that you can buy trucks (some of which are clearly better than others in nearly every way), while cool, means that the player will stick to a handfull of vehicles that they (and the community) deem best, rather than being encouraged or even required to use and experiment with a wide range of vehicles. I don`t know the dev`s plans for future games, but I would like the next evolution to be a huge open world with large interconnected biomes, where you would start in a corner where the area is made primarily of paved and dirt roads, and as you expand your operation outward and explore the map, terrain would become harsher and refuel stations less abundant (there would still be paved or dirt main roads connecting the various areas to facilitate travel between them). You would than be encouraged to use highway trucks for onroad and light offroad transport of goods and other more specialized vehicles, and would use said specialized vehicles only in more difficilt situations due to higher consumption and reduced speed and mobility. Oh, and the handling of highway and lighter duty trucks would be more akin to ATS and ETS2 atleast on paved roads. The simulation and shift layoutof the gearbox would actually vaguely resemble that of a normal teuck as well (and so would the engine sounds and behaviour of the engine`s rpm). The fiel consumption would also be tweaked to actually resemble that of a real life truck, as well as better match the vastly increased scale and size of the map

Personally, I am stuck like glue too the TUZ 420, I've been all over and the thing just doesn't stop, I've only broken out a winch a few times when I felt like it could be helpful, but the thing just keeps marching on like it is nothing.

If you include trucks as scouts, try out the ZIKZ, C70 or the eh.... Dont remember the name of that last russion truck, anyway, they have only 2 axles and are manouverable like scouts. Thats my take on it. Loved the vid, good edditing, great jokes. Good effort!

The International really is a solid truck though I found the F750 to be if nothing else a more stable platform even with utilities added. Not to ment that bed space for single piece cargo is sometimes invaluable.

Yar is great, but it kinda looks like it should be greater, it has 4WD always enabled yet the game treats it like it doesn't, only when you enable 6WD does it actually work properly, which is weird since all other scouts can work fine with just 4WD. The Tatarin is my fav, because it only has only 2 speeds settings, stationary and not stationary, you are either parked, or it just goes. And the of course, the Loadstar, which is actually a chopped off full blown truck, powerful and fast, versatile and stable, just keep an eye out for that fuel tank, and your gold.

Yes, sadly. But as you said it's either moving or it isn't so definitely an awesome truck. I was surprised it struggled with the hill climb though, but then it is heavy. My favourite scout is the Lo4F and I'm yet to tip it, even on the tip happy Lake Kovd (poor optics when naming this map). Favourite truck is the TUZ 16.

Ive expected scout 800 to be higher in the list. It got me most of the game scouting. Diff lock always is a big plus to speed on offroad on auto. Also fuelwise is a monster since with roof rack has 140l and a lot of tyres and 300repait points make repair missions a breeze in a few trips. It can scout an entire map with that autonomy. Never bothered dragging trailers since that is what trucks are for like tayga. The tippy part is handled by electric winch. For more scouting weird locations and forests i go for tatarin. The angled nose just pushes trees and is best at navigating dense forests and can climb any mountain. Also tatarin in reviews looks slow but it's unfair. Where most scouts and trucks would stay in low gear, tatatin does it in auto 5/5 making it pretty fast on muds, rocks, hills, bogs, marshes, etc. So any speed over rough terain in tatarin should be done in auto for tatarin. I rarely have to go on low with tatatin regardless of terain. The 5/5 auto on tatarin is still slow but way faster than low+ on most trucks. So it's a steady pace to whatever point you want in a straight line over cliffs and forests. Something you can't do with any other truck.

I think if you are happy taking it steadier, the Scout 800 is decent. I actually enjoy the smaller, sillier trucks and as you said they can go for a very long time and over most terrain. But this video was about showing specific strengths and weaknesses. The Tatarin does look slow but actually it's 5th gear crusing speed gave it fast times throughout my video, just not the uphill or water sections. It's a beast and nothing is better in mud. If it was more versatile it could've been number 1. Depends on what you want to achieve, hey. Thanks for the comment!

If the 39 Marshall you didn't get that fuel tank nerve and the other nerves that it got I'd say it would be better then the international loadstar 1700 the 420 and even the 6436

​@@ATribeCalledCars very true i just find it funny that the tatarins in the scout class it genuinely feels like an offroad class truck. also yeah ive owned 3 taygas 6436 in the game so far (my 1st ones gone because of the ps4 disappearing trucks bug) but i bought 2 more because its probably the most reliable/dependable truck in the game. the level 26 truck is an insult compared to the tayga that you get for free... (the azov 64131 is great too with the fuel efficiency and its natural stability but its incredibly slow)
