Yugoslavia basically did this (took insane amounts of loans from Western countries), because their dictator Tito believed the Western financial system would collapse and they wouldn't have to repay anything. The western financial system chugged along, and Yugoslavia collapsed soon after Tito's death

In reference to the Ahri skin + physical figure idea, that's effectively what DotA did for the first couple years of The International battle pass. You'd buy ~$500 USD of levels and get mailed a physical scale model of the Aegis. On top of all the digital rewards that would also get you.

The Liz Truss fiasco only happened because some banks and pension funds took on debt to buy gilts to fulfill the unrealistic pension payouts they promised. When the market-value of gilts dropped, some funds were getting margin called because they lacked sufficient liquidity for additional collateral on the underwater gilts.

What Liz Truss managed to do to the UK bond market with one bad announcement was astonishing. I feel bad because those are supposed to be the safe investments. The gilt crash fell most heavily on the older and more conservative investors.

I feel like our democracy is based around the idea "it won't happen in my term so it's not my problem". 2 4 year terms are a great idea for a number of reasons but it really becomes a problem when a president has no responsibility for their decisions.

We should eliminate the tax buckets up to 40k. It would eliminate income tax for almost half of all americans and only shrink the government tax revenue by 5.2% while giving the poorest people an extra 100 dollars a week in their paycheck

@gwop827 I haven't done the specific calculations so I could be off but a 50% raise on the upper bucket could be less competitive than other similar level countries and cause flight. But I am for more buckets and higher percentages on those buckets as long as it doesn't harm the country more than it brings in. I think adding in like 3 more tax buckets would be useful 400k as the highest bucket isn't much anymore. I'd be against a net worth tax if that's what you mean by wealth tax I think that could easily be detrimental when it comes to gov owning bunches of stock and I think it is unfair for someone who did make a breakthrough early in life and wants to live a life retired early. What I would more perfer is closing holes on business tax and making it so you can't just take out loans forever to avoid paying tax by using your stock I think that could bring similar returns without as much risk or feeling like your unfairly taxing anything

There was even more wrong with the policy because the pension funds had a bunch of gilts (£1trillion apparently) which were essentially bought through leveraged funds which collapsed when they announced these tax cuts

Do rich people hold their taxable income/assets until taxes get lowered? I don’t see why people would push so hard for short term tax cuts otherwise. Unless it’s just a long term effort to keep the needle near the middle / towards the lower tax side.

The solution isn't no income tax, it is greatly reducing the amount spent on welfare programs and government overhead. As long as the government is in debt, we don't pay the politicians, guarentee they would get shit together.
