ATSF Santa Fe 3751 arriving in to Fullerton , Ca for rail safety on 09/21/2022 . First outting after a 1472 inspection / rebuild that took 5 years .

@Krystal The Pink Poodle UP 844 was delivered in 1944, and was the last Northern UP ordered. ATSF 3751 was delivered in 1927. Math much?

@Krystal The Pink Poodle And plus... during last week... they were able to get the 8th Street Crossing repaired and upgraded to support the weight of 2926 when under steam. ;)

just wish I could have seen it with the better engine I'm not a fan of those new engines that Metrolink Amtrak and they're using I wish they'd go to a manly engine and not an engine that looks like it should not be around

Coal burner when it rolled out, converted to oil in 1937

@@marcot3333 among a number of other rebuilds between 37 and 41 that brought her up to spec with the later 4-8-4s. People often forget 3751 looked a lot more like 4-8-2 like 1522 when she rolled out of the factory than she looks like now. She's actually officially classified as a "heavy mountain" not a "northern" because of this, originally she was built as a 3700 series 4-8-2 with a larger firebox and extra trailing axle. They did the same thing with 4-6-4s, referring to them as Heavy Pacific's rather than Hudson's for the same reason, the original Hudson's were really just bigger 4-6-2s.
