Best facing video ever I love the uncomplicated corners I knew there was a better way to make it one question usually you see a stay stitch of about an eighth of an inch when you turn facing to the quarter-inch I noticed you didn’t do that it makes a facing lie flatter. I’m not sure it makes a difference after seeing yours
@adamsewfun.3 жыл бұрын
I’ve not seen the stay stitch, I will have to check for a video and see it done. I’ve always just done it this way and steam it like crazy.

Love watching all of your videos Adam! Once the facing is attached, what do you do to hang the quilt. There's no hanging sleeve. Is there a way to make a facing with a built in hanger? Perhaps a dowl or rod?

I’m sure you could, I just attach a sleeve the same way I would with a quilt that had a traditional binding.

Hello Adam, New subscriber here. Love your videos. Where I live there are no classes to learn anything about longarm. Not even a machinic closer than a 2 hours' drive. So, thank you for the lessons. My question to you is, are you using a facing instead of binding?
@carolasbury9244 Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam- is it ok just to measure 1/4” from the stitching line and use the channel locks instead of the square foot and ruler to sew on the facing? I’m not too slick with rulers yet. Lol.
@adamsewfun. Жыл бұрын
That will work if everything is perfectly straight. Mine are often a bit skewed, so that wouldn’t work for me. 😂😂

Love this video. Do you turn the edge under before hand stitching down?
@adamsewfun.2 жыл бұрын
I iron to set the stitch, then I turn the edge all the way around so the seam is pointing out. Then I iron and steam the heck out of it, so it stays.
@MamaChristine3 жыл бұрын
Adam, what iron are you using? Is it long enough to press things the whole length of the machine? Have you ever tried the cordless ones?
@adamsewfun.3 жыл бұрын
This is a Reliable Maven, I do have the Panasonic cordless iron too. I will use that on my machine if I have to. I like the steam station but it isn’t long enough to do the whole frame.

Thank you so much, I love this video. You mentioned that you used double batting in this quilt. In your opinion, is double batting only a good idea in wall hangings, or would it be OK for a quilt that you would use? I am told that double batting makes the quilt stiffer, but I’m wondering how stiff. Thanks
@adamsewfun.3 жыл бұрын
Double batting is only stiff if you stitch it dense. The biggest thing it the weight. They can be really heavy. I swear one of my quilts weights 5 lbs.

I love this video and am so glad you took the time to go through every step slowly. I have learned a lot from you!! I am too lazy to hand stitch so will make the facing smaller and machine stitch I am sure.

To slide your favorite ruler, can’t you just flip it over to the smooth side vs the frosted side….or are both sides textured?
@adamsewfun.3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how I’m trimming. When I trim for clients, I leave about 1/2-3/4 of batting and backing around all the sides. When I do it myself, I trim at the edge. I could flip it when trimming at the edge but if I need the marks, they are only accurate when the ruler is the right side up.
@NurseBearEnterprises3 жыл бұрын

Adam, is one of these Hoffman Dream Bug panels too much for a beginner? Like repetition to learn to download pattern, set areas, etc? Do they make smaller ones? Thanks!
@adamsewfun.3 жыл бұрын
My thoughts, it's a great way to start if you can focus on not being perfect and getting used to the process. You will be doing a lot of techniques during it (loading and basting a whole cloth and all of the Pro-Stitcher stuff). The stitching will look great because it's Pro-Stitcher but placement might not be perfect. Match your threads and you should be good. I would use the Quiltable design (asf10 will get you 10% off) because it's made to fit into the petals and not run on the outside. You can do it, just have fun!!
@MamaChristine3 жыл бұрын
I just ordered one. Have you done the red poinsetta one? I can’t tell what color Omni will match it. I guess I need the color card, lol!

The multiple layers of batting make it somewhat thick, so the 60 just cuts better.
