In this video, I will show how to connect the battery management system or BMS to your battery cells. Most of these BMS are all based on JBD or Jiabaida boards like overkill, Radio B, and Smart BMS. Overkill solar bms share the same boards as the JBD BMS but may a few unknown tweaks.

Dude, the Heltec is an ACTIVE BALANCER, not a BMS. Well done otherwise. But man, that constant mistake is hard to take. Really misleading.

Didn't Will Prose say Copper Clad Aluminum is not a good type of wire and to NOT get it? Or am I confused?

If you got in your budget get the 100% copper.

It is not the best, but you're building a budget battery. As long as you calculate and allow for more resistance, it is fine to use. BUT if you have the budget for 100% copper, that will just make it even better.

@@RANDOMFIX no sorry, that's not quite right. The JBD BMS (battery management system) contains a passive balancer that just burns off energy though resistors. The Heltec active balancer (which isn't a BMS) uses the voltage of the highest cell then switches to a different cell and discharges into that one. Sorry, maybe it's just me being pedantic, it's just terminology at the end of the day. 🙂 By the way, we just the same active balancer in our batteries. You have two BMS devices connected to the same battery? I was wondering if this would work.

Yes, you need the secondary bmw as the battery is to bug for the bms to balance. I would never build a battery over 50 ah without the 5 amp secondary bms. Check video number 7 on how to buy it for cheap. Please watch the whole series and I promise all of your questions will be answered and I'm here to fill in the rest.

@@RANDOMFIX It is often referred to as an active balancer. Sometimes you get a cell that charges more efficiently than others. What this active balancer does is takes charge from the more efficient cells and pushes that charge to the less efficient cells. This is not required but it makes for a better-balanced battery and a better-balanced battery ensures better usage and lifespan. I hope this helps.

The primary bms can not handle a 280 ah battery. The heltec bms is does a much better job of balance everything perfectly. There is a lot to building the lifepo4 battery and please watch the whole series as most of these questions will be answered. Happy New year 🎉

He's mistakenly calling the Active Balancer a BMS. There is only one BMS. The BMS protects the cells and is absolutely necessary. Like most BMS, the JBD has a built-in passive balancer that is ineffective. So people add in what they call and "Active Balancer" The Heltec is a good Active Balancer.
