Keeping It Dutch

Күн бұрын

I heard screaming then this happened. It all happened so fast. Hadleee and myself set a trap to try to catch some wild predators like coyotes. The coyotes have been surrounding our homestead for a long time and it was time to take action against them, but what we caught this time was not what we thought we would catch. Our neighbor will be mad but its their how fault.

@truthteller9071 while you are definitely entitled to your opinion try to think of how you would feel about coyotes that by nature prey on the old and weak pets of people that don't live in neighborhoods. How would you feel if a 12 year old Golden Retriever you loved with you entire heart and soul from 8 weeks old was eaten by coyotes. I know how that feels that said I still personally don't use traps. I hold no malice to those that do. Walk in their shoes before you go off the deep end with your criticism of something you do not or refuse to understand. Not a big fan of coyotes but love all dogs, especially my dear friend

A poor hungry scared stray can still be very dangerous. They could attack you out of fear. When they realized it was a dog, they talked about setting him free. It just so happened, that he managed to free himself first. And in the woods where they are you don't know if the dog got lost from his home (so might be somewhat friendly) or if he's been wild so long he taken up with coyotes. You just don't know. A stray went for my 3 year old nephew. My bro-in-law had no choice but to shoot it.

As my wife just put it "You shoot, shovel, and shut-up " we have many predators around our place and our horses,, pea-fowl, pheasants, chickens, and pigs have been attacked by them. We no longer put up with any predators. We try deterrents then destruction if that fails then start the backhoe.

Dealing with predators is part of homesteading, you’re living amongst the wild. You have every right to protect your family and livestock. If people cannot handle it I agree don’t watch it. Hey Dutch just a quick idea for you.if you get a 6' piece of 3/4 pvc pipe white pipe works best and some 12 Guage stranded wire ,double the wire up and run it through the pvc pipe and leave about 2 feet hanging out and cut it off ,knot the loose ends together so one side won't slip through and when you push the wire through you get a loop this is a Indiana rig rabies stick like the dog catchers use and it works great if you need to free an animal from a trap without injuries. If you have a big strong dog you can up the pipe to some 3/4 emt conduit and 10 awg stranded wire ,just make sure to ream the ends of the conduit so the wire don't get trashed also leave enough wire to push loop out the catching end and enough on your end to get a couple of good wraps around your hand you wanna have a good grip so it doesn't get pulled away from you.

If you have dogs, be responsible and put your dogs up. I live in a rural town in SW Georgia. There is a leash law. I had a neighbor who let his dog roam. It tried to attack myself and my wheelchair bound mother and all i was doing was pushing my mom around the yard. The neighbor got mad and tried to bust our window. After mom passed, that same dog on several occasions tried to attack me. And every time I called animal control, the owner retaliated. They (animal control) finally euthanized it and told the owner to move.

I live in the city of Peoria, AZ. Once upon a time, this was the desert but as we continue to build and grow, natural wildlife is losing its home. Wild rabbits come into our neighborhood so of course, they coyotes follow them. They’ve jumped out six foot fences and gone after cats and small dogs. My dad watched as three of them grabbed his toy poodle right in front of him and ran away with Beau in its mouth. We never found him and it broke my dad’s heart. After that, he carried mace, a cane and his gun. I also have a gun and won’t hesitate to use it if they come into my back yard. I do feel bad for them because more and more of the desert is disappearing, but my family and fur babies come first. I hope you catch them!

My dad had 53 acres in Alabama that was wide open for 40 years. People hunted across it and dumped trash on it. When he retired he started cleaning it up and fencing it in. We posted it with no hunting / trespassing signs and people kept poaching on it. Even after he built his house on it they would lift their hunting dogs over the fence to chase deer. We had a stand off one night with the poachers. They let their dog loose and we heard the poachers on the property. Dad was yelling at them to get their dog and get off the land or he would shoot the dog. They were yelling back that they would shoot him if he did. Mom called the sheriff and seven of them showed up. They found the poachers on the side of the road without guns saying they were just training the dog. Sheriff checked the treeline and found their guns and arrested them. Between those hunting dogs and strays harassing his goats he eventually had to start shooting the dogs. He would take the bodies up to an intersection and leave them there. The poaching ended real quick.

I just found your channel, I have been told by 3 different dog catchers in 3 different states “if a dog is NOT under the control of its owner it is a stray dog.” All 3 times my livestock we’re being killed, threatened, or chased. I was told that “in that situation I had every right to dispatch the animal.” In my experience and opinion you have to protect what is yours, if someone gets an animal and isn’t a responsible caretaker of that animal doesn’t mean that you should pay the price for their shortcomings.

I take my dog for walks with a leash. But I am willing to drop it and shoot anything or person that needs to be dealt with. But I have had dogs that stay close to you when walking, each person knows their dog by dealing with them. My son's German Shepard will stay near him with no leash. Mine . . . . well that could be the last time I see him for hours as he explores the world for food.

Most farm dogs know to stay close to the owner. I have 5 dogs all know to come when called and when we are in the woods they stay with us

He had to call the dog several times to come back. This shows he isn't trained to hunt or protect. Maybe next time you won't take another dog along, just to be safe. At least the trapped dog was not injured to bad. Maybe it will stay away. To many people take dogs and other animals and dump them in the woods, along a road, or at someone's home. Shame on them. I do hope next time it's one of the problem animals. Be safe, and blessings to all. Deme in Bama. .

A predator of any sort is a problem on a homestead. You gave it an opportunity to learn not to be on your property. No second chances. I always try deterrents before trapping and dispatching. People who don't have farm animals don't understand that a lot of money, time and energy are put into them so any loss is difficult. Keep on keeping it real Dutch.
