Dinos give you three skin btw, Bears give you three meat. And wolf one food/skin. Underground with lots of torches and youll find the good stuff..

I would say light up your place more, obviously, and expand and possibly decorate it. Maybe see if you can build legit walls and roofing or some kind of external marker so you don't lose it.
