What's crazy to me is that when feeding Ymir to Maria, Rose, and Sina, the king of Eldia probably didn't know that the spine is the key to passing down her powers. He fed his own daughters various parts of their mother, her heart, her brain, nothing was spared. That's so disturbing to me, as all they needed was a bit of her spinal fluid.
@highlander315272 жыл бұрын
Ymir decided that those parts were the important ones after his statement, and that it was how the power was passed. It was the order of royalty, not how it happened. The king said so, so Ymir made it so.
@FishCornflakes2 жыл бұрын
If I remember/guess right The that is the reason why we have 9 Titans. When Maria, Rose & Sina ate Ymirs Body 3 more titan were added to the founding one. When they died they were again fed to their children and more titans were added to the founding titan & the 3 others. At one point I think when the 3 daughters of Ymir were eaten, eldians decided to stop that "tradition" and that's why we only have 9 Titans.
@dimaudalow2 жыл бұрын
@@FishCornflakes , not sure they ever stopped. I mean, Eldian kings were greedy enough to multiply Ymir's power, why then stop at 9 Titans? More likely they continued but 9 became the limit to Titan shifters. Others just inherited the genes which allow all the Eldians to turn into mindless Titans. Cause I don't see any other explanation for all Eldians to carry this ability in their blood.
@FishCornflakes2 жыл бұрын
@@dimaudalow All Eldians beside the 9 shifters are able to transform into Titans. When non shifters transform into Titans they become "brainless" and they instinctively eat humans. But why? Because they are instinctively trying to find one of the 9 Shifters to regain their humanity. If I remember right it is revealed/partially revealed in Seaosn3. As per why 9 Shifters, it is said not really confirmed though I will be honest, that by eating the body of ymir, 3 new titans appeared but the "titan strength/power" was kind of diluted so probably the bodies of Maria, Rose & Sina were eaten, but after that no because then the Titan Shifter number would be higher.

Eren to Annie in the S1 finale: What are you fighting for? What great cause could justify killing so many people? Reiner to Eren in S4 Ep 17: What are you fighting for? And then he says Eren is the worst person to have this power an episode later. Which is fitting because Eren is about to kill a bunch of people. He's turned into what he couldn't understand a few years back. Now we've finally seen the true history. It was a mix of both Eldian and Marleyan truth. Ymir did build stuff, but she also destroyed and crushed a lot of things and people too. And her descendants then did the same as well. Time to play devil's advocate for a bit. A lot of people always seem to think the Marleyan-Eldian conflict happened 2000 years ago. While yes, that is correct that it began 2000 years ago, it only ended recently, about a hundred years ago. Meaning the Eldians basically subjugated and destroyed the world for 1900 years. The Marleyans who currently are alive probably had Grandparents or Great-Grandparents who were subject to the Eldian Empire. And the stories of fear and hatred were passed down. Which is why the world hates Eldians. In war, things usually end with both parties coming to an agreement to not cause further destruction. But Karl Fritz didn't do that. He decided he didn't want to be that guy and his response to his people causing 1900 years of suffering was basically, "Sorry about all that. Promise we won't do it again." But he also threatened them with the Rumbling, pushing that same fear and rage onto future generations, running from the conflict and wiping people's memories. Some people like to sit on a moral high horse, but if someone tormented your family, friends, and everyone you knew for 2000 years throughout multiple generations, and their only response was saying sorry, you probably wouldn't be like, "Oh. They were just in a silly goofy mood. I guess we should just relax". That doesn't mean treating Eldia like how they were treated is right. And doing what happened to them to the rest of the world also isn't right. But the show brings up a few interesting themes. And one of those is becoming like your enemy. Hange noticed that she and the Government were becoming exactly like the same people they fought so hard to take down 4 years ago. People mistreat Marleyans and treat them like servants on the Island. Pixis notices that Yelena and the Jaegerists are putting armbands on people and isolating them like Marley did. And Marley became what Eldia once was. So the question arises. If you're so determined to defeat your enemy that you lose yourself and become exactly like them, do you still consider that to be a victory?

Nice parallel to Armin’s quote
@Tundra0stalker2 жыл бұрын
To put in a real world perspective of how relatively recently the Great Titan War, and therefore the Eldian Empire's tyrannical world domination, ended, 100 years is about the same time since the end of World War One. So only about three or four generations have passed. If people didn't have a grandparent that lived during Eldia's reign, they certainly had a great-grandparent who did.
@bryanolivera78182 жыл бұрын
In reality, Marley's hatred of the Eldians seems to be a mix between irrationality and immediate, that is: -they hate the current Eldians for something they didn't do (it's like they hate the son of a criminal just because his father was a criminal, the son is clearly not to blame for what his father did). - but they use them as a means to subdue other nations. Now, we all know that in a war there are neither good nor bad but if we want to talk about "who deserves to win" paradise is the most innocent of all, they lived fighting to survive the titans and they only wanted peace after that, just to discovering that the world hates them for something they didn't do (and it was because of the danger of being attacked that they became hostile towards marley and the world in general) they didn't even know that the eldian empire had existed, and if they knew, that they didn't makes them guilty, now, they are not supremacists, the paradise government was willing to negotiate with Hizuru (although they were only greedy who only wanted paradise's resources),paradise did not consider them inferior. and, although they do not try the best way to the prisoners of marley, they do it precisely because they are SOLDIERS prisoners of a country that wants to eliminate them, there is a big difference between that and what marley and the world do with the eldians. Now, it is not right and it will never be right for Eren to rumble, but I repeat that in a war there is neither goods nor bads, Eren doesn't enjoy doing that and he doesn't do it because he thinks that the Eldians are "better", he simply does it because They are his people and he swore to protect them.

The devil of all earth that Ymir made a contract with was king Fritz, the demon in the iconic image doesn't show The devil giving an apple to Ymir, but Ymir giving an apple, that being the power of the Titans, to Fritz. @Larindarr Жыл бұрын
Here are a few things I believe I am noticing... but don't see reactors or comments mention or see... maybe it's interesting maybe not. But here it id :) It was a spine, and maybe spinal fluid laden waters. Of who? it is unknown. What happened to Ymir is what Eren feared would happen to Historia... and her would be children. And the cycle of war would go on. Ymir was a child. And a such mentally weak and was abused and used for her powers and had no sense of dignity it had been beaten out of her as a slave. And thus she trampled on humanity, no problem while still being a slave. Perhaps it was the only time she felt she could enact her rage. (circling back to Kenny's line "everyone is a slave to something") Ymir became a slave to the system of the coordinate and titans fuelled by her rage. The King knew this hence the anti war vow, so that this rage would not be unleashed into the world. Marley was not too far off. There is always a grain of truth to stuff. And they knew the extent of lethality brutality and evil that she could unleash. The attack titan and its ability to bypass this, was the fail safe key to stop this. And she waited for it as it was a matter of the not if. One of the main themes in this series has been "freedom". Just as she was set "free" to be haunted for sport, and almost as a sacrifice for that tree and spine, so she did to Eren. Armin thought Eren had won and got the power of the founding titan. But as soon as he realized all titans within the walls were released... he understood the power of the founding titan had taken over Eren. Eren was lead to that point by Ymir and though he tried to stop and change it many times, he was haunted by the memories and inevitable outcome just as she was haunted for sport when set "free". Eventually being a sacrifice which is reflected in his shape as the founding titan. No body hung bare to the bones almost shackled like the sacrifice positions and chains when others need to be eaten to get titan powers. Foreshadowing when he was shackled. She used his rage and pain to lead him there, and enact her rage and vengeance. Just as she pillaged the world before. He thought he could control it but his mind had begun to break since Historia hand kiss vision. And that is crucial. Because indeed the face he made was not his it was Ymir's rage. He was never free. Making Ymir for me.... truly evil. A created evil. There were many instances, where everyone failed him. In the sense that they pushed him to the brink, with comments remarks attitudes and what not, and did exactly the opposite of what Sasha's father explained. They never treated him like the child he was and is (he is 19 here btw). But always a soldier putting tremendous burden and pressure on him. Never checking to see if he was ok. Even as his personality started to fade visibly so. Eren was failed by them and used... while lying to himself to cope. That was the only freedom he could have. How to respond. This is something I don't see ppl addressing. And it's the most sad.

There is a theory I love which is that the requirements and consequences for Titan powers are the result of traditions. 1. Eating the spine to transfer power 2. Ymir obeying the Royal blood only, as does every pure Titan 3. Spilling blood to transform 4. Amnesia of the ritual of transfer of power (most likely the children of Ymir asked that of the Founder due to how traumatic it is)

@jrlombardi52512 жыл бұрын
Ymir was taken by the eldians so since then she's considered an eldian, then she gets the power and just her descendants are able to get this power, since she was already an eldian and all her descendants were born in there they're considered eldians, especially coming from the king of eldia and her being the queen. That's why it is said just the subjects of Ymir/eldians can turn.

I think its so smart to leave the whole “parasite” thing a mystery, bcs we as humans in the real world will never have all the answers either. Some stories introduce a higher power that should explain how the world came to be, but the realism and human-ness of AOT makes it actually so much better

It's just my theory, the reason ymir got the Spears into her is to save king Fritz.. after these 13 years even though the king treated her as a slave, she falling in love with king Fritz. She was happy since king Fritz make her as his wife, there's no more suffer, she get well dress and food, and as a king's wife, everyone respect to her.. she had a family that she always wanted to.. but in the end, she gave up after all what she has done for king Fritz, (build an empire for him) the king still call her his slave, and didn't love her and still use her as a tools for him for the very end.

Im pretty sure they would have known Maria, Rose and Sheena's names even without Paths since these girls were historical figures and Titan Matriarchs so they would be pretty important to Eldian history and Identity. Their names would be passed down through history in legend. Asking how they know those names is our world equivalent to asking how we know Hannibal's or Julius Ceasar's names. I guess this episode blew your mind soo much that you guys didn't think of rational possibilities like you usally do.

The Attack Titan was created by Ymir for resist to the royal family. She was waiting 2000 years for Eren to free her. Since the begenning she knew futur through the Attack Titan. But she created this titan to free herself trough Eren. This episode is just the end of the entire cycle. The first episode was titled " To you, in 2000 years" Supposing to be Ymir's message to Eren from the past. And this episode is titled " From you, 2000 years ago" supposing to be Eren's answer to Ymir. All this time they were linked because they are the end and the begenning of this cycle. Ymir going to futur and Eren going to past, they both always exist for this conclusion to happen. Everything from the start was made to conclude on this decision to do the rumbling. Both of them suffered for 2000 years of History, seeing these 2000 years in memories.

Ymir, a slave her entire life. The only time when she tried to decide for herself (when she let herself die), she became the eternal slave. It is so tragic. Her suffering is out of this world.
@heltonsantos3452 жыл бұрын
the point is the real story of Ymir is what Eren Krueger said to Grisha: "The truth is that there is no truth. Everyone can be a god or a devil, it just takes people to believe it." Part of what Grisha thought of Ymir was true, she built roads and help Eldia prosper, but the Marleyans were also correct. Eldia with the help of Ymir terrorized the world. Everything is grey. And its kinda funny when Frieda tells Historia that Ymir always thought of others since she helped the King with ethnic cleansing. Eren "freed" Ymir by giving her the decency and respect of being treated as a human being, BUT... he will do almost exactly what the king did... AGAIN.

Anna seems to believe that the curse of the 13 years being bc of Ymir dying 13 years after getting the power is just a theory, it isn't, this was confirmed in season 3, Eren explained in detail so we do know the curse is in fact bc of this

He's not a centipede, even though centipede designs come from the spinal creature... Blood Eagle, the Viking's execution, is what created his current appearance. As you all know, the base of this story is from Norse mythology. Currently, he feels like the King of Titan and the Eagle that will take his flight to freedom. Isayama's design and storytelling are beyond human level.

I like how Eren changes from referring to his people as Eldians to referring to them as Subjects of Ymir after we see Ymir's backstory, and know how messed up the Eldian Empire actually was.
@samuelclayhills32982 жыл бұрын
He then basically goes on to do exactly what the empire did but on an infinitely worse scale so oof.
50:13 Eldia is just a name. Fritz names them Eldia, so even if Fritz didn't colonize them and Yimir touched the source she'd still be able to turn. Not just Yimir but if anyone from her village did they could turn to a titan. Hence the whole generation can become titans. Yimir dies as a teenager and has 3 children, I don't think only those 3 could make the whole future eldian generation (while other villagers still existed)

The theory on Rod Reiss's Titan is that he took the Titan spinal fluid the wrong way. Ingesting it instead of injecting it.
