Do y’all agree or disagree with what Eren is doing? Eren telling Reiner that they’re the same seriously gave me chills and added so much more to this show. Check out the BIG 3 Soundtrack OST (big 3 are the most popular anime in 00' in the west. Naruto, Bleach and One piece) I recommend these 2 songs for each. Naruto OST - Heavy violence and Naruto main theme ( Traditional Japanese with guitar mix vibe) Bleach OST - Invasion and Precipice of Defeat (Dark choir vibe) One piece OST - Overtaken and The Very Very Very Strongest (Friendship and adventure vibe)

That was so fkin stupid. It's like those people lack basic knowledge. Eren is a protagonist, not an antagonist. Antagonist is a person that is opposed to the protagonist and protagonist is the main character. Protagonist doesn't have to be a good guy, it can be a villain as well, just like an antagonist. An antagonist can be a good guy. That nomination was honestly retarded. There are anime where a protagonist is actually the villain.

There's a reason Eren repeated that him and Reiner are the same after Reiner broke down and confessed. What's eating away at Reiner is the fact that he was not "just following orders", it was absolutely his own decision to move forward with the plan. "If only I hadn't known such people existed, I wouldn't have become such a half-assed piece of shit" (Reiner Season 2 Episode 6 right before transforming) This is Reiner realizing that even after he met the people of Paradis, even after befriending them and realizing they weren't the devils he thought they were, he STILL chose to kill them. His guilt doesn't stem from the fact that he hadn't known any better, it's the fact that he knew what he was doing is wrong yet still decided to push forward, killing innocent people for his own selfish reasons. And that's exactly why Eren was relieved by this confession. Reiner wasn't being brainwashed or pushed into doing what he did and neither was Eren. "I was right, I'm the same as you. I think we were born this way." Neither of them understand why they are the way they are. Reiner is overwhelmed by guilt and thinks it's simply because he's "a worthless piece of shit", but (at this point in the series) we still don't know how Eren truly feels. This Eren quote sums it up perfectly: "...But there was something pushing us all along, causing us to step right into hell. For most of us, that something isn't of our own will. We're forced to by others, or by our environment. But the kind of hell seen by people *who push themselves into it* is something else. They also see something beyond that hell. Maybe it's hope. Maybe it's yet another hell. I don't know which is is. The only people who do know... are the ones who keep moving forward." That's why the Reiner/Eren dynamic is one of my favorites in the series.

I disagree, I interpret it as Eren saying they’re the same because they both did have a choice, & they chose to do it anyway, for themselves. Especially when he reiterates that they’re the same at the end after Reiner confesses that Annie & Bertold wanted to call it off but he made them go on because he wanted to be a hero. Fits in line with Eren’s speech to Falco as well about “those who know that hell & choose to go into it willingly”

The truth is literally the opposite. Reiner didn't destroy the wall really to save the world, Eren is not doing this shit really to save Paradis. Reiner wanted to achieve his selfish dream, Eren too. And their priorities, alongside the dream that push them forward, are their beloved ones and friends, not the whole environment of theirs. They're the same because they can't escape this reality, they had a choice (at some point, because we know that without their brutal actions, Eren and Reiner would've both been doomed)

If you actually really deep dive into what Willy is saying, he’s talks about how if the marleyians didn’t attack paradise, they could both live in peace from each other but the marleyians are power hungry and wanted to take the founding the titan. Reiner, Annie, and Bertholtd’s mission had no other reason for it besides their country wants all the power (no one was in danger) while eren’s mission is to actually protect paradise from all the other countries that are about to wage war. Erens mission actually has a purpose to save people and as the speech goes on Reiner is slowing realizing it. Episode 64 is an entertainment and media masterpiece

Welllll...both Reiner and Eren had other priorities than "saving their country". That's why they're the same. Eren looked disappointed when Reiner kept saying "to save the world". In the end, Reiner collapsed and admitted that his main reason was to pursue his selfish dream of becoming a hero, prioritizing his family. Eren is doing the same, utopian freedom and the safety of his friends. In fact, as soon as Reiner tells the actual truth about his actions, Eren says "like I thought, I'm the same as you". Some people still believe he meant "cuz we had no choice", buy they CHOSE to follow that specific path of violence, for themselves

Completely wrong. The reason the Marleyan government sent the Warriors to Paradise in the first places is because they discovered the Eldian Restaurationists plot to destroy Marley, they knew the ER wanted to overthrow the Reiss Family and steal the Founding Titan power; and eventually the Marleyan Military intelligence discovered the attack of the Owl at Paradise Bay. After this event they immediately sent he Warrior Unit to Paradise, cause they knew someone within the military betrayed them + this mole was a Titan out of Marleyan control. The fact is: everything was under control until the Owl (Attack Titan) saved Grisha Jaeger. All these events are explained at the end of season 3. Once Eren kissed Historia's hand he became a completely different person and will, he is a genocidal, sociopath tyrant, and everything is the Attack's Titan fault, from the very beginning.

@@elphil7103 if you want to play the “he started it” game, you’re absolutely wrong. the attack titan is not at fault here, although it did play a key role in these events. even if the owl did not have the attack titan, and the betrayal in paradise bay hadn’t taken place, and grisha was never sent over to the walls and take the founding titan, this entire conflict would have STILL happened. paradis would have pushed beyond the walls and come into contact with the rest of the world. eldian restorationists in marley would have been able to conspire with paradis against the reiss family and marley, and the reiss family would have theoretically gotten overthrown nonetheless. then this would loop back into the warriors being sent to address this coup, and willy’s fear of the founding titan being in the hands of usurpers. the fact that you’re blaming the attack titan is wild. it only becomes a questionable matter with eren and the rumbling, but before that, it has been because of the attack titan that paradis has dug itself out of ignorance to the many truths that has been kept from them through the royal family, the MP, and marley.

@@TC-rj9rz It is certainly an interesting look at how much one is willing to write off Eren's earlier behavior as "overindulgence". Though I would point out that Eren shows his rage when killing the two kidnappers before he even possesses the Attack Titan all the way back in episode 6 of season 1. Is that really a Titan berserk mode or an Eren berserk mode? Moreover the entire series has illustrated Eren's inability to find his "enemies" and failure to control his emotions when it comes to them, so scenes like him pointing across the sea and pondering the killing of "all his enemies" is more chilling to me than the scene with Reiner is season 4 episode 5.

@@Tyrantofthewind you raise a really good point. Reflecting on how I followed the story during my first watch through, I realize that I was blindsighted by all the insanity and plot twists that were happening, that eren's killer nature since he was a child almost took a backseat in my mind. When later it is revealed that he has in fact always been relentless and cruel to those he viewed as his enemies, I was once again mindblown by AOT's incredible story telling that it made me, a completely enraptured viewer, almost forget that he had psychopathic tendencies since he was a kid. During the scene you mention at the end of S3, I recall my initial interpretation being concerned of eren's rapidly declining mental health. It wasn't yet chilling to me, as I was probably still starstruck by the insanity of S3 part 2 and the other side of the sea reveal. In S4 during this episode, my concerns became more real that Eren's mental health had deteriorated and he seemed like a different person now. Another scene in part 1 when they go back to Paradis that happens with the og crew, you know exactly what I'm talking about, it was then confirmed to me that our boy had gone full darth vader. But of course, like AOT had done over and over again, more plot twists awaited in S4 part 2.

This was it. Declaration of war is my favorite episode/scene. Having watched all the 95 episodes out so far, this was the hardest gut punch for me. The pacing is phenomenal both in macro and micro, the absolute horror in knowing who Eren is, where he is and how he is. A whole episode knowing hundreds of people could die within seconds and thousands in minutes, watching him grow more mature and Stoic over the show and having seen him in this season lacking any sort of emotion apart for a bit of empathy really keeps us on edge because you don't know what the point of it is, which parallels with the play and speech above them. When he said he had come to understand the people on the other side of the sea and lifts Reiner telling him they are the same, while ambiguous, I believed this was the turning point for him, no more wishes of slaughtering titans or people, which just made the reveal all the more horrifying. Eren didn't change his ways, he just polished them, and now has come to do to his enemies what they did to him, and just like the first time, we get to see how horrific it is. This show is beautifully anti-militaristic, it shows us characters we get attached to suffering at the hands of war, whether that be as civilians or as soldiers, and plants the seeds for lingering hate and prejudice for the enemies, but when we finally see our "heroes" fight back, it's just as horrific to witness. Even Sasha, i never particularly liked her, but seeing such a fun goofball kill that man in front of Gabi and her dead cold eyes really hurt, war has ruined these people. There are no winners in war, and this show presents that masterfully.

For too long Paradise has been fighting those very same titans one on one with no help. They have inadvertently created perfect titan killing machines, and brother, they are here for you now.

Yo new fan here, I recently watched your “I’m 25 and have now friends” video and I would like to say, wow, thank you, it really helped me during that night. I found I relate a crap ton to those feelings and having a truly honest an unfiltered angle was exactly what I needed, I’m not going to tell you what you don’t want to hear, however I will say that after the video I managed to smile a bit brighter and hopefully that also makes you smile a bit brighter. Sorry for this long message. love the content keep it up!

That was the moment that I knew Eren wasn't fucking around. This wasn't a game to him, or some noble cause, he set out to commit some mass destruction and accomplish a goal, and he went about it more brutally than MANY other anime villains, who are polite enough to give their opponent a time out for a Transformation Sequence or a Pep Talk to Summon the Power of Friendship.

There’s a hint of foreshadowing that happens to be one of my favorite scenes from the whole show. It happens back in season 1, when Reiner and Eren are training together in the cadet corp. They’re training taking down someone with a wooden knife. At one point, Reiner hands the knife over to Eren telling him it’s his turn to play the bad guy now. I freaked out when I rewatched that part of the show after watching through the first part of this season. I think it really shows just how far ahead this show thinks. Anyways, I figured I’d share that with you first before talking about what I was thinking after this episode. I think that at this point I had decided that it didn’t really matter who I thought the bad guy was because there’s always 2 sides to every fight, and after seeing both, neither was in the right nor wrong. If Reiner and the others hadn’t made the second attack on the wall after learning what everyone was like inside the walls, then I might have been on his side in a situation like this. They were kids who’d been brainwashed into a certain way of thinking after all. But, at this point in the show, I couldn’t point at one and say that they are the bad guy with good reasoning. Most points I could make could also be said about the other too. Therefore, why even try at all? That was my feelings at this point in time after I first watched these episodes. :)

4x5 is my top fav aot episode. The maturity of Eren and his insights about right and wrong, friend or foe gave me chills. It changed alot about how I see things in our world. There's hate in this world and we label each other as enemy due to politics, hard beliefs, religion or whatever because we were born and raised differently. But like Eren said if we cross our border and get to learn and talk to the other side, we would realize we are not that different.

SO MUCH RESPECT for you actually being willingly to acknowledge the morality of the situation. Despite how much the show spells it out (to the point of literally having Eren tell Reiner "I'm the same as you") there are so many other reactors who just said "I don't care about Marley, shouldn't have invaded Paradis and killed Eren's mom, you get what you get."

14:28 Willy Tyber is Eldian too. He were just saying "You guys always sacrificed Eldians, what's the problem?" because Magath was hesitating. I saw many reactors misunderstand that Tyber thinks Eldians are devils, but I don't think so.
@MIZZKIE

Willy calls the Paradis Eldians "Island Devils" so casually because he is talking to a Marleyan. Also, it's the context of the conversation. 14:27 Magath says "But so many will die.", which is odd for a Marleyan to say, so Willy low key mocks him about it like "Oh, so NOW you're feeling bad about us, eh? After all you've done? Huh?". Willy is dedicated to his plan to the point of he is willing to sacrifice his life for it, so he doesn't want to hear bullcrap. This conversation has SO many emotional layers within it, and I just LOVE IT. AOT conversations are so damn well written!

My favorite part of these reactions is when he reads out the subtitles and comments on what he thinks is going on presently at the time. i think ppl are too fixated on who's side they are on or who's right and wrong, that the whole message of aot is that war never has a right side. war has no true victors. eren isnt right, but everyone can see just how much he's gone through and how much he loves his friends, that's why ppl cant rlly blame eren. In the end, its a great show and enjoy it:))

That could be the message, it's just a bad message. If I am being invaded by people whose stated goal is to enslave or slaughter my entire population, and I fight back, we are not equally wrong. War is always tragic, and destructive, and everyone sacrifices/loses things during it, but there very much can be a right and wrong side.
