If Erwin was around he would have thought up a risky plan that garners peace amongst most party that others wouldn't have been able to think of. Plotting plans with high risk high reward was always his speciality
@mediumsurmoon62832 жыл бұрын
Yeah but if you think about it , Armin’s plan has always worked without having the need for too many death , while Erwin’s plan has always just end up with lots lots of death . The parallel is during their plan to capture Annie ; Armin planned to have Annie walk into the underground to prevent her from transforming while Erwin’s plan was to had her transform in the middle of wall in Wall Sina (so she couldn’t call for help nor escape) . Then the second situation is during Wall Maria’s retake , with Erwin’s side of the wall , the entire soldiers got obliterated and killed , while Armin’s side of the wall , every soldier during the plan survived except for his own self (Armin) . Though both plan succeeded , you can kinda see the parallel where Armin’s plan don’t cost the death of the people partaking it while Erwin’s plan does
@JeanBudo2 жыл бұрын
@@mediumsurmoon6283 Ok, I understand your point, but I don't think these are good examples. At least not in a in-depth character level. When Armin tried to lure in Annie to a underground tunnel his plan ultimately failed, and in the retake of Wall Maria Erwin took the best course of action at his disposal. For me the best moment we see who Erwin really where, was in the scene that Connie show him, Hange and Levi that the titan in his home village was his mom.. After Connie left Erwin was smiling, so much so that even Levi calls him out on it, because for Erwin only the truth matters, all the sacrifices of his comrades where justified in his mind for the pursuit of truth, only wavering his resolve at the moment in the he realize that he himself would have to take part in the suicide charge, and, In my opinion was not even for guilt, but more the realization that he would never see the truth he always wanted.(but this last part is personal take on it) As for Armin, the scene who shows who he is was that conversation on the stairs, the one that Levi heard in a corner. He sensed the tension and pressure his friends where feeling at the moment, and used his dream to defuse those feelings, the dream that he knows his friends adopted. Armin goals where always to go se sea, *with his friends*. Unlike Erwin, Levi, Mikasa, Zeke and so many other, Armin always have been "weak", witch makes him rely on others and have a empathetic take of situations (Much like that conversation between Marco and Jean in the first season). In the retake of Wall Maria, he even have a breakdown because he could not figure out a plan that could have save himself and his friends. In a cold view, Erwin was more suited to a military leadership, even though his motives where misguided, he knew how to use every tool at his disposal to advance, even if those tools where his comrades.(Witch I know is a grim take, but that's military in a nutshell) On a side note, the episode "Hero" (S03E17) is the highest point of the series, because both of these guys where the "Hero", both of them abandoned theirs goals and dreams to try accomplish something great then themselves, but again that's my take on it.
@somestuff78762 жыл бұрын
@@JeanBudo The irony here is that Erwin failed twice in SnK. And both times his emotions or emotions of others failed him. First time, was his plan of rescuing Eren. He was so absorbed in the idea that if they lost Eren - it would mean game over. That he didn't have any backup plan, neither did he called for retreat when situation got dire. Three biggest humanity assets (Erwin, Armin, Mikasa) that day were saved only thanks to Eren's god like power. And it's not like Erwin had a hunch that Eren had an ace up his sleeve, either. Second time, he miscalculated Levi's devotion. He didn't said to Levi: "kill him immediately or don't get distracted by hope etc". So he had the best tool at his disposal (Levi), wasted so many people lives, got himself killed and didn't managed to eliminate Beast's threat. Meanwhile, Armin made a bet on emotionally manipulating his childhood friend into believing that he would be fine. Succeed at that. Got only himself killed. And archived his goal in eliminating Colossal threat. Author couldn't be more obvious in episode "Hero" in highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Erwin was the devil that, except one time, always left bloody trail and Armin could only sacrifice himself. But putting value in people lives won. And it is the only type of approach that would clash nicely with Eren's current actions. Personally, I agree with her. I always read Erwin as opposite to Armin. Erwin disregarded so many people lives in order to archive his goal. He was always about "the end justifies the means" and cycle of avenging your fallen comrades. So, I never saw Erwin as character who would be thematically against the Rumbling. Basically Rumbling is almost natural progression of that type of logic. And I honestly don't understand where this believe of him being against it comes from. Especially with the way story structured: 1) Eren had to be in paths to push Grisha into taking Founding Titan; 2) Eren needed the reason to be in paths. If Erwin or anyone had founded the solution before that, than Eren has no reason for that and the story falls apart; So you can't really write around this moment without massive rewrites of the main storyline. Erwin would never worked in further plot.
@JeanBudo2 жыл бұрын
@@somestuff7876 Yeah I agree with you in many things, Erwin would not push the plot at this moment, and a also can't see him be thematically against the rumbling itself, like you said. And also he was a gambler, and many of his miscalculations comes from that, as it should be. In the end he was a tragic character, and I liked him, not that I uphold his values or anything, I just liked him. And my last comment I'm agreeing with @MediumSur Moon, and with you. Armin is the opposite of Erwin, I just fell compelled to talk about both of my favorite characters, and present what, in my view, would be better examples of how far in the deep hole Erwin was, and how empathetic and mentally acute Armin can be.. Also, yeah, S3E17 "Hero" was about Armin, I'm fully aware of that, like I said it's my personal take to associate Erwin with that too. In the end he had to let go of his dreams and convictions, and low key commit suicide, witch has to be one of the more mentally grueling and scary things I can think of... Especially how far deep he was... Gosh I love this series, its rare a series that you can discuss in depths characters and see so many different takes on the same subjects, not only these two.

That's exactly the point of the episode, no one cares about Connie's mother, EXCEPT Himself... So Annie, Floch,Gabi and Eren Himself (on a stupidly larger scale) along with almost everyone else they are being selfish in many different ways, and being for the one they love is what matters most at the moment. Which is totally understandable in a time of total chaos, even more so in a fucked up world like AOT 😬
@Jonas-ob2sh2 жыл бұрын
I don't think Erwin would agreed with the rumbling, he may have gone with the 50 year plan/small scale rumbling at most. My reasoning for why I think this way is because when Erwin overthrew the government he did it without spilling any blood whereas Floch and the Jeagerists bombed the premier, indirectly caused the deaths of Pixys/Nile and other military leaders and used intimidation to submit people to their side.
@gyrozeppeli002 жыл бұрын
Hobo Eren attacked the literal night that the entire world waged war on Paradis. So the rumbling is necessary, because let's be real, if a nation has the power to wipe out the entire population, flatten the surface of the entire earth and basically terraform it, the rest of the world won't just leave that nation alone even if it pledges for peace, not until that power disappear, preferably with the nation itself along with it, just to be extra sure. Erwin is objectively a better choice, he was a renowned leader and with his influence within the government, I think they could have initiated the rumbling without most of the bloodshed within their own ranks. Isayama isn't scared of letting his characters making poor decisions, no shade to Armin I love the boy btw, but with Erwin, most of the problems Eren had with the higher-ups not trusting him would have been resolved, and maybe without the burden of being the only devil willing to fight, he could have another thought or two about, you know, murdering everyone.

It is not by chance that we get to see Connie or Jean's POV this season more than the previous seasons. The calamities and oppressions they have faced has been somewhat sidelined throughout the story. They were reactionary characters who reacted to the insane developments, all the time setting aside their own circumstances. Jean setting aside his goal of achieving "comfy, away from the battlefield" lifestyle. Sasha leaving her forest and family and the Hunter's life behind to find a place in these changing times. Connie going against his previous dream of just being respected and getting his family the recognition they deserve. These three didn't have Titan strength or the Ackermann blood or the high intellect. All they had were insane guts and each other. Their personal anguishes had to be ignored and their hearts had to be given. They were just 3 best friends, battling in war after war, risking their lives and protecting each other as best as they could. Connie, Jean and Sasha were fighting for humanity, for their comrades who had lived and died for humanity. Connie, Jean and Sasha had survived all the battles but the fear always stayed, the fear of death. It was always lingering behind them. Eren and Mikasa got Armin back once. But what about Sasha. Death was final for her. For her and for Connie and Jean. They can no longer react, they have to act. About Connie : Connie has never given up on his Mom. He was the first to face the truth and report to Hange that the titan looked like his Mom. Soldiers used to come to his house to survey the place. They approached his mother with swords drawn, trembling in fear. He could not bear to see his mom like this, to see people around her like this. She was not a monster. She was his mom. Recap to season 3 , Before the scouts return to Shiganshina to take it back Conny went back to visit his mom. Sasha asked everyone if there was a way to turn his mom back. Connie, everytime he went back to his town, had to go through the rummage and debris of what once was his home. He never found his father but he knew he must have turned into a titan too. Or was his father eaten by one of the titans ? What had happened ? No matter when he returned, one thing he was sure that he will find his mom there. Laying there, a titan, but nevertheless his mom. Should he lay her to rest ? But he never could bring himself to cut her nape. How could he ? She was his mom. Connie never talked a lot about his mom infront of the military because he never knew if they might resort to kill her unbenownkst to him. The only respite for him was Sasha and Jean. Sasha always felt like home away from home to him. His friends were all he had. They had been together through death and war. Then when Sasha died, the soul that was home away from Ragako also left him. Eren, who was his friend, suddenly had turned and was working with the enemy. Annie, Reiner, Berthold, Eren how many betrayals must he go through ? He wanted to be home once again. Before he died, like Sasha, he wanted to see his mom once again. This time he will think for himself. Connie will save his Mom.

Forgot to add but Sunset title motif is when everyday comes and once daylight fades is when u start contemplating your day/ life ... Like Annie reflecting. Still feel surreal that the table scene, Rumbling and Armin snapping at her are all in same day so u gotta feel for every character's mental state but esp Mikasa. JeanKasa in the preview states a sense of the lowest point of their life yet should come to their pragmatic decisions because even tho they're technically winning against the world, the Rumbling still opposes the ideologies that they've all been fighting for and isn't the resolve to AOT's recurring theme - communication
@halfeldianhere2 жыл бұрын
also Louise reintroduction in S4P1 was vital to Mikasa's lowest point to today's episode. She was saved in S1, Mikasa gave life and new meaning to her and then followed her in military. Pretty paralleled with Mikasa is to Eren, so when Louise does the same thing to her it's like a shove to Mikasa's face what she's been doing to Eren and she seemed to not like it. That's why M was kind of, rude to her (L) in that jail cell talk last season .... It's all in her face all this time esp now that the situation with Eren is worse. For someone as strong as Mikasa it's still pretty dope to see her fragile and vulnerable moments whenever it involves the ones closest to her. For the first time, she is afraid to think, because this is about Eren.

On the other hand, I can't like him as a person since at this point he and his gang are the same as the "outsiders" they despise so much, fanatic extremists who kill whoever disagree with them. So it's a 50-50 to me too. About your take on Erwin I agree, but with some more context. I mean, of course he wouldn't have wasted time hoping for an idealistic peaceful solution, but at the same time I can't imagine him agreeing with a full-scale rumbling like Eren's. Back in season 3 Levi asked him what he would do if the real enemy was past the ocean (not these exact words, but the meaning was this), and his answer was "I'd eliminate threats". All those billions of innocents that Eren is about to crush are not a threat, regardless of what they think about Eldians. Therefore, to me, Erwin would have exploited Zeke, Kiyomi and the Volunteers from the start, without hesitation, to then agreeing with showing the power of the rumbling, destroying real enemies and then sue for peace. Something similar to the 50-years plan, but done way sooner and without excessive procrastination. But definitely not a full rumbling, Erwin led many soldiers to death during his reckless plans, but deliberately killing the whole human race is something that only Eren would do. HOWEVER, no matter what Erwin thought, Eren and Zeke were the ones who could command Ymir, so he didn't have the power to make his hypothetical plan happen with certainty. But that's a what-if and we could discuss about it forever. Btw, Eren and Erwin's concept of sacrifices are not even comparable, and *SPOILER OF NEXT EPS* we'll see this soon through Hange's words

👍 well said and I thought I was alone thinking that Erwin wouldn't become a fascist. It just blows my mind when someone says Erwin would agree to do rumbling. Like I watched a different show.

@@aledey4666 Sometimes I feel that if Hitler and Mussolini are ressurected, there will be a majority in their support. Isayama has just written a beautiful meta commentary to expose the devil in people's heart. It's just sad . But for every Eren, there is a Armin, so I still have hope in humanity.

Yeah, 50 years plan sounds like the most reasonable one. But I can easily see Erwin going with the most extream of plans, because he would have no real say in it. He could only support Zeke or Eren. And I don't know what would he choose here. Lesser or bigger evil. Would have to reread her words, I don't remember it being about Erwin, I saw it like highlite of Floch's arguments... cynical ones, not so imperialistic ones.

In the future, if you ever want a more natural look with a bit of flashy; you could just do the green highlight on top of your natural hair color. That way you would still have the matching streak with your eyes (flashy) and keeping your natural hair color too. The two tone certainly looks good though.

Amazing hair colour :D Also yea, pretty much noone cares about Connie's mother except for Connie...which something similiar happened in S3p2, Levi and Hange and mostly Floch didnt care that Armin is Mikasa's and Eren's childhood friend, sure he is useful but they needed Erwin, its Scout's commander, in pretty much everyone's eyes except for the 2 friends Erwin was the right choice...Eren and Mikasa didnt even start to reconsider their choice even when Floch brought Erwin....was it really right decision? would things go differently if Erwin was brought back? maybe Paradis wouldnt be pushed into situation where Eren would use full Rumbling but use partial like they talked about but much sooner, maybe Zeke wouldnt have time to execute his wine plan...we will never know Now this is ofc slightly different situation but in nutshell, Connie acts like everyone else would... Its sad how these characters, even if they have good heart and are kind, they can do terrible things to protect those that they love....thats why I think Annie's talk was important there, what she said applies to everyone in this show..."And just like me, there are others with people important to them. All the things I have done till now are absolutely unforgivable. But if it takes me back to my father, I would do it all again." ....now is it right thing to do? who knows? who can really decide that...we all do sometimes terrible selfish things and if we were pushed into desperate situations, who knows maybe we would do the same things as these characters...

Teddy I agree with you on Floch,,, His character took a 180° turn after the Death Ride with Erwin. He is logical and dosen't sit around,,, but he is just so extremist. Overall he is an interesting character. It's because of Floch that we had one of the most intense and heartbreaking episode where we had to choose between Armin & Erwin,,, the episode which you said you'll never see again 😂
@elenabe47182 жыл бұрын
Floch is such an interesting character, and polarizing as well, because he basically represents us. He's not one of the strongest soldiers of humanity, he's not a strategist, he doesn't have a burning passion or desire for revenge motivating him. He's an average guy who got swept up in the enthusiasm surrounding the Survey Corps only to find himself charging to his own death without a good reason to. But he survived, alone (and again he was the only survivor of his team when Eren activated the rumbling). What he tells Jean and the volunteers in this episode, to me, just shows his true desire: to have a nice life even if he's not free, where he doesn't need to fight anymore, just like Eren's mother wanted. He called himself a coward in season 3, and in a way he is, but what's wrong with that? Why would having a nice life be wrong? It's also what Jean wanted, and still hopes for after all the blood and the loss. Except that the moment he gets a little power, Floch uses it to destroy everyone in his path just for his egotistical desire and even revels in the violence he can exert on others. He is driven by fear and cowardice and that prevents him from creating an empatheic bonds with others. Maybe it's a way to protect himself from splitting (like it happened to Reiner, who has wanted to create bonds all his life) and from feeling remorse and being responsible for his own actions: he blames it all on Erwin first, and Eren after. They are the devils who made him like this, if he stopped to think he'd lose everything, himself, his purpose, all meaning of life, because the war they've been living in all their lives is senseless. Both Erwin and Eren showed him that the only way to find meaning in your life is to destroy everyone else's life. The difference is that they knew those sacrifices were wrong, but theirdrive surpassed everything to the point they could silence their conscience. They too sacrificed a part of themselves. On the other end, Floch has nothing to drive him, he's just too afraid to think, to come to terms with himself or even to go on despite knowing that it's all for nothing

Nice Hair color Teddy but it will take sometime to adjust to it. This episode, godd, I think Armin perfectly summarized the situation. I am having a hard time deciding what to do here. If you were a part of the AOT universe, in the middle of this chaos, what would you do? I don't have an answer. How do you control people, whose side to choose, how do you take charge, how do you LEAD? Morally I know I am against what Eren is doing but in this situation where you see people are forming sides and one side is going to overthrow other, just being alive is an issue, what to do? I recognize four ways in this episode - 1) Floch: follow me or die, 2) Shadis: Survive no matter what 3) Armin: think about the larger issue, we need big guns like reiner and falco on our side, well Armin's side 4) Annie: I just need to see my family, the rest of the world can wait. I hate what Floch is doing and in my book what he is doing is wrong but can we say, he just took charge, controlled the situation (although through fear and in a dictatorship manner) and maybe stopped further chaos. I love armin but I wonder what situation we would have been in if Erwin was there, would he done any better, would have let things go this far in first place. In my opinion the only advantage Erwin has over Armin is authority, he is higher up the food chain, well ... not that Eren would listen to anybody but still.

Hey, Teddy! Love your hair, a beautiful outcome/choice. Anyways Mikasa looking for her scarf really seemed to me like she is looking comfort as she is forced to be independent seeing that Armin is so stressed out and Eren is leading the Colossal Titans, she is looking for her token of memorabilia, that one piece of comfort & warmth. I hope she finds her independence and act with purpose moving forward.

You mentioned that point about Floch threatening the volunteers, it's him thinking about the future. As we've seen with the Founder's memories, an Empire doesn't flourish without slaves. This isn't a matter of the rest of the world dies and we live peacefully singing songs all day, the Eldian Empire will dominate the globe and you can't dominate without people to subjugate, whether they're descendants of people that weren't down with a side or plan, or whether they can turn into Titans. It's a cool way to show that neither the Eldians or Marleyans are in the right. Eradicating a side for a reason doesn't eliminate hate and prejudice. At what point does the cycle stop?

Conny's motivation makes a lot of sense to me. His mum has been a titan for years, he's undoubtedly been able to stop others from killing her with the hope of some how saving her. Now, as the world cRumbles (sorry, had to drop the rumbling in there 🤣) down around them and chaos is reigning supreme he clutches to the only thing he still has: saving his mum. The notion of killing a kid for it, or what it means for his mum, probably haven't even entered his mind - I'll be curious if he can go through with it when push comes to shove. Flock, on the other hand, might be the only character I can't sympathise or understand in anyway... so I guess I side on the "hate" Flock

@@daniBwolf Sorry, I used "can't sympathise or understand" in the wrong context, I was meaning that on a personal level. It's not that I can't understand the foundation of his extremism - just I can't empathise with him. For me, those emotions don't compute - but from a logic point of view I can see how Flock got to where he is. Hope that makes more sense!

Whoever is blaming Eren for the Destruction in the Island should understand that Eren probably knew that either way when he does the Rumbling at some point, the island will have some very bad situations, it's not like he also INTENDED to kill the civilians who got crushed by the walls leftovers, You should definitely know that he Probably TRUSTED his friends that they would have handled the situation of the island after he would go away!!

Great point about Floch, ‘somewhere in the middle’ is absolutely where we should be with him. He’s doing detestable things but we’ve seen his journey and the trauma he’s faced to the point where his cruelty is understandable. Floch Forrester, his name’s a contradiction. “Floch” like a flock of birds, “freedom”, but Forrester, he’s still trapped in the forest that Mr Braus keeps warning us about.

First of all, just want to say I'm an anime-only. I've seen a lot of reactors saying that the situation is hopeless, there's nothing that can be done. Understandable considering the circumstances, but seems like there's something they can do to me. Eren can control all subjects of Ymir. Great, there's people on the island who aren't Eldians who he can't control, then. All the volunteers. There's maneuver gear that can be used to scale the colossal titans, so getting closer to Eren isn't impossible either. It's not like the colossal titans are gonna attack them or emit steam. Reiner can rest and transform again later, same with Pieck. Some combination of those things can definitely lead to some action being taken. There's stuff they can do, stuff they can try at least. No idea if any of this will actually come into play but yeah. Anyways, I really loved this episode. So many heartbreaking character moments. Everything that both Mikasa and Armin said was perfect based on what they've been through. Mikasa has been attached to Eren for ages, but has finally given up the scarf she cherished for so long. Makes perfect sense that she'd be aimless and ask for help. In that same vein, Armin's reaction ALSO makes perfect sense. Since Eren's been gone, Mikasa's been clinging to him a bit and asking him all the hard questions... but right now, he has no time for that. He has to do what he can to prevent infighting from happening, so that the same things won't repeat, except on Paradis this time.(not to mention he just legit has no clue LOL, how could he when everything seems so hopeless) We see that's already beginning in the Trost district. I don't blame Mikasa for seeking help at all. I don't blame Armin for snapping and telling her to think for herself either, because she needs to learn to do that at this point.(I would've loved a hug between them though.) Think its so clever how Isayama took all that time she was clinging to Eren and using it to now challenge her character. Very interested to see how she does on her own with Jean. Connie's part was also really sad to me. Seeing him try to salvage what last little bit of family he has left. Gabi and Kaya's first proper introduction, hug, and goodbye were all great as well.

It's stil all jumbled up for him, he doesn't even know he has those memories and that they are not his own... so if he had flash of Connie's face in his mind it's logical to think he himself must have met the guy somewhere. I don't know how it will play out, but it would be fun to see something Ymir-related again. Falco seeing all those moments she teased Connie, the situation in the castle (with Reiner!). Damn. I always thought Erwin should have been the one to bring back although I knew they wouldn't kill off Armin. If Erwin were there he would most probably go with the 50 years plan of hanji and Armin but the only difference is that even if eren decided to go off on his own things wouldn't be as messier as the scouts totally trust erwin's leadership even more than Eren I think. In terms of pure intelligence Armin may be smarter than him but what's the use if he can't become the leader and take tough calls. And people always blame Erwin for being selfish and choosing his dream over humanity but what we forget is at that time reaching the basement was humanity's priority too so in the end it was for a good cause
