My first Anime and the most meaningful work I’ve ever consumed was Attack on Titan. I love everything about it: The ideologies; the internal and external conflicts; the themes of hatred, freedom, trauma, redemption, sacrifice, survival, human nature and identity crisis… Among many more. Particularly Eren’s journey was probably the most tragic and impactful thing I’ve experienced. His dynamics, parallels, morality, complexity, symbolism, determination, reasons, will, consistency, worldview, dialogues, monologues, layers and his characterization in general is almost unmatched for me. I don’t think I’ll ever get to experience such a thought-provoking journey ever again. And there is so much more to it than Eren’s journey. There is a full cast of incredible characters with their own strengths and developments… There is also an outstanding world building, amazing confrontations, many character peaks, insane plot twists and more.

Ask them to watch Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle, _and_ then ask for them to explain how "animated by Japanese = bad" is anything but racist. Then ask them to prove how those two count as "anime". If they are intelligent, they'll understand what you're saying. If they're dumb, why are you hanging out with them? 🤔 I _only_ hang out with cool, non-ignorant people who know how to think for themselves instead of repeating what they hear, and I'm much happier now. The thing is, what AoT is so hyped for is (mostly) not the action, it's the amazing story with the insane plottwists and foreshadowing as well as the incredibly well written characters. So yeah, there will be lots of action, but if you are into deep and dystopian stories, youre definitly going to enjoy it!
