I love how MAPPA really did the effort to show us why Hange had to do what she did. In the manga the scenes weren’t elaborate enough to give justice to Hange’s sacrifice. Here it really showed how impactful Hange’s last stall was. Magnificent

One *very* important point. When Eren is crying in front of Ramzi, he says "I wanted this." Eren says that when he learned there were humans outside the walls, he was disappointed. The book Armin showed Eren depicted a wild frontier outside the walls, one where there were no humans. And when Eren is crying to Ramzi, he is admitting the darkest part of himself: on some level, he *wanted* to do the rumbling, because he didn't want there to be humans outside the walls. It's true that Eren felt conflicted and it's very hard for us as viewers to accept something so horrible about someone we've grown to care about, but given infinite power, the rumbling isn't just what Eren felt he had to do- it's also what he wanted to do.

@@AquamarinYG Right. And Eren wanted to make the world the way he imagined it, a world with no people beyond the walls. Which he did. By committing genocide on an unprecedented scale. It's not that he wanted to kill people for the sake of killing people. But he *did* want to kill people for the sake of creating the world he dreamed of.
@AquamarinYG
@AquamarinYG 18 күн бұрын
@@edwardlwittlif No. Eren killed people not because he wanted to create the world he saw in the book, but because there was not much choice. Either Eren is now doing the most terrible and disgusting act in history, Or he will let his people die. Eren's motivation is simple. Kill all the people on the walls in order to achieve freedom and a happy life on your island. All this was said in the anime

I like the fact when eren comeS to see Reiner underneath the stage. The way Reiner started to beg for forgiveness to his victim(eren) reminded him of the time he broke down and begged for forgiveness to his victim (Ramzi.). You can see at that moment in erens eyes the way he looks at Reiner begging to him. Then he proceeds to say "like I thought we were the same" . I think nobody ever talks about this.

I'm going to leave a small analysis made by a friend of mine about the character of Eren in this specific chapter to understand it in case anyone is interested. From his childhood, Eren was a child who looked at the walls with boredom. She had never wondered what was outside of them until Armin began to fill her head with dreams of a world full of life and extravagance, where freedom was found. Eren, with the knowledge of future memories, states: "If we exterminate all enemies on the other side of the sea... will we be free?" That question is important. Eren seeks validation and approval for his actions, even though he knows perfectly well what he has to do and what he did Eren saw his dream of being free destroyed. When he learned that the people on the other side of the walls had oppressed and subjugated them all this time, he was filled with hatred, rage, and a desire for revenge. Eren longed for freedom, but he saw that dream destroyed in front of his eyes. Eren decides to carry out the Rumble because he seeks revenge. He wants to destroy everyone outside, including the Eldians themselves who live in Marley, because he hates them. He hates that they have given themselves over to Marley's empire, sacrificing their identity and their freedom. But he also sympathizes with them. Because he was in that same situation. He also hated being deprived of liberty. It is extremely contradictory. He saves a boy who he will later murder because Eren is driven by his basic instincts, he is a child unable to control them, but he is also someone who abhors what he does. Eren cannot escape his own destructive nature. He wants to escape. But he can't do it. Those feelings of guilt that are born from the conscience of a man who recognizes the terrible of his acts, but cannot stop, Eren is marked by childishness. For him, seeing the reality of the world was like a child opening a gift where there is nothing inside the box. Eren found nothing but decay. He was filled with a hatred and resentment that will never leave him. No matter how much he recognizes his flaws, Eren's inner child reaches out his hands and enjoys, even for a moment, what he thought was to achieve freedom. Eren is relishing the feeling of overcoming the walls that once held him back. But it is false. It is a catharsis that comes from debauchery. The adult Eren represents the image of one who has been condemned. He regrets what he has to do, but he does it anyway. Eren cries because he is not able to stop himself. Eren cannot free himself from his own hatred and search for liberation, Eren is aware of the destruction and death it will cause, but he keeps going because he sees no other way out. This final decision encapsulates the tragedy of his character: a man who becomes a slave to his own hatred and despair. A slave to freedom. This is an addition of mine, but the first 10 minutes of this chapter are easily the best first 10 minutes of all fiction itself.

Very critical insight here, so much so that I can't help but suspect a lot of the ending haters would have a change of mind if they could but grasp it. Eren is a deceptively complex yet still deeply human character, and understanding his nature and actions throughout the plot is necessary to appreciating the full themes of the overall story.

The starting sequence really crushes your feelings - seeing the little dialogue between those 2 kids who only want their refugee friends and family to lead a better life - all this intertwined with Eren's narration about how he'll end up killing everyone, you just can't help but get an overwhelming feeling of sadness and helplessness. Annie and Armin's conversation - them obviously wanting to confess their feelings for each other but failing to do so in a direct manner - this was probably the most light hearted part of this episode and it was much needed. Reiner asking Annie for forgiveness and saying goodbye, along with the rest of our Scouts - what an emotional moment. 16:26 Hange being Hange and making Titans freak out - we wouldn't have it any other way 😂 19:40 you just know Hange will go out like the complete badass that she is. Levi's "Give you heart" will make people cry for generations to come. That little "afterlife" sequence, with Erwin and all the other Scouts, was so wholesome, showing us how they're still watchin over the living, seeing what they gave their hearts for. Reiner, Connie and Jean finally truly understanding each other, here at the end of the world, was strangel satisfying to see. No more factions and old grudges dividing them, just their resolution to save the world together. The Pathways sequence was heartbreaking - all of them trying to convince Eren to come back and Eren offering them the biggest gift of all, what he couldn't achieve his whole life - freedom to do what they want, even if it means killing him. The Marleyan commander's speech was beautiful and it really touches your heart but we'll have to see if they actually stick to those vows of breaking the cycle of hate or not. Onyakopon's flying skills are out of this world, managing to dodge Zeke's famously destructive throws. Your post reaction discussion was nothing short of amazing. Covered all the main points in the episode, balanced, rational opinions - it's been a pleasure listening. Thank you for this incredibly emotional reaction ❤

I think Isayama was inspired by conspiracy theories to write this story. A certain theory says that Hitler wanted to send the jews to madagascar to live in peace, and that is why he was sending them out of germany. And in Isayama's story, the jews are the eldians, while the marleyans are the germans. Kinda cool to use history and theories to make an amazing work of fiction like AoT.

perhaps in one of the predecessor timeline, he did tried to flee with Mikasa just like what show in Mikasa memories in the next episode. But he comes to the realisation that he will regret such ending for those still alive after he is deceased from either Ymir curse or successfully ended the titan power/curse once and for all. So he learnes from experience from all past iteration memories that he has no other better option than the current plan. Yet he can't foresee the future memory beyond the point of his demise, so he can only relied and entrusted on Armin and Historia to do the rest of the job, and for sure he know Floch gonna died before Eren did, so he never need to tell Floch his real plan after all.

I might be crazy for saying this but if you cried more for Hange dying than Ramzi and his brother you are agree with Eren whether you believe it or not. You felt more Hange since you had history and a bond over that character that you didn't have with Ramzi despite him being a small 100% innocent child. That is Eren he knows its horrible but he loves and cares about his friends/family more to do everything to protect them.

mmmm. And the fact is, that's not what Hange was fighting for, she was fighting for everyone else, not the island.. and I hope, given if something like this was actually happening and it was my country or the rest of the world, I would be strong enough to say I would sacrifice my own country and my own life so the rest of the world would live. And hopefully most others would do the same

@@CrazeeAdam I’m not talking about Hange I’m talking about viewers and their reactions. I brought up hange because people tend to cry over her death more than Ramzi despite his death being unwilling and a child because of their connection and emotional history with the character more so than Ramzi. This shows how Eren feels sure they felt bad for his death but it wasn’t near as devastating to lose him over hange. And most people would choose themselves or their loved ones in this situation. The context plays a big factor in this and being unjustly targeted for genocide is not something most people will accept especially with family to protect and it’s naive to think otherwise
