Having a tiny bit of trouble generating the power I’d like while landing that kick. Also what’s the best way to recover after landing the kick?

The hook can be used just for framing the opponent's guard so that you'd get full rotation in the kick after the cross. The best way to recover is to pivot your right leg and you can follow it with an 1-2.
