I hope we get a behind the crest episode with these camps. I’d love to have a look at the development and a feel from some of the newer players at camp.

Soooo happy to see Crystal in the line up. Can you talk about how Emma has moved her to defender when she was listed as forward previously? What does it mean?
@GoJess21Күн бұрын
We need a strong air presence. I don’t know if that’s the role Emma has in mind for Hatch. I would love to see Aubrey Kingsbury, but it looks like Emma is testing out keepers who are a bit taller?
@iadvantage26 сағат бұрын
I fully agree with you. These days, goalies are much taller due to height advantage, men or women. Alyssa Naeher being the best goalie the USWNT ever had, also had a glaring height disadvantage. 10 -15 years ago, it was not much of an issue. But, these days, the times call for it for aerial interceptions of play, in and out of the goal line. A good example was the recent first goal by the Netherlands in the last friendly. It went directly above her height level, while she was very capably able to prevent multiple low level shots at goal. She saved everything else in sight that she could reach out for, and won the game almost single handed. In her defense, the women are still using the exact goal post dimensions that the men that are bigger and taller are also using. The standard soccer goal post height is 8ft tall for men or women. As a result, in my opinion, taller women appear to be the norm these days.

Super surprised with this roster but excited for the newbie’s getting some looks and chances. Great for Emma to see what’s up with our pool of US players. Too bad we won’t see any matches with this current roster though.

Jenna Nighswonger looks terrible against the Netherlands, and she doesn't look like she belongs to be a part of USWNT. I hope she improves.
@catman5183 күн бұрын
While entitled to your opinion, I think Nighswonger is an outstanding player. She's playing a very difficult position. The Netherlands came with a plan and executed it well, but still lost the game. Every player has a bad game. Sullivan in the World Cup looked horrible out there, but Washington needs her and when she is performing well, they do well. Sauerbrunn messed up against Mexico and a couple of other games. It's why she's retired. Playing defender is tough. Netherlands had a big physical attacker that ran over Nighswonger. Ref didn't call those fouls. Nighswonger is shorter too. This player could out head her and was fast. Emma made needed adjustments and they won. It's true Nighswonger seems a bit off as of late, but watch video on Mal Swanson and you'll see even these top players get in their head and need to recalibrate. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. New players have nothing to lose. Give everything they have when they start, like Malonson, but when you play at the highest level every one of them makes errors. Recall, Nighswonger helped Gotham win a championship. Even Korbin Albert was playing lights out and then the whole Rapinoe thing messed with her head, she started looking lost out there. Now she's back to herself with help from Emma and Horan. They didn't quit on her. We should not quit on Nighswonger either. She is great. Dunn might retire soon, so the team needs Nighswonger, Malonson... Maybe Vignola. They will always need fast outside backs moving up and down the wings. Let's continue to support each one of them.

It was just second season of Jenna playing as left back. Last season she won ROY, her crossing ability is amazing. I think this season she got exposed as defender with more film on her and she hit this slump. Unlike Crystal Dunn, who could rely on her pace to recover when her positioning was off, Jenna doesn’t seem to have the same elite speed to make up those crucial extra yards. Plus, she lack physicality, a friend who attended a USWNT game mentioned being surprised at how tiny Jenna looks in person. All this puts added pressure on her defensive instincts and skills, which need to be at an elite level for her to thrive in this role as a smaller player. NWSL season and last game against Spirit ended horribly for her so she clearly struggles with confidence now. The left back position is clearly wide open, and I’m still pulling for Jenna-there’s plenty of time for her to develop defensively and make her mark. Jenna being invited to this camp shows that Emma believes in her, it will help her with confidence. It's good for her to go to this camp and develop without added pressure of having to play in a friendly.

Is there a better coach than Emma Hayes? Between this roster and the futures camp Hayes is going to be able to evaluate 20 or so new national team players 15 or so has been or will be players AND bring in 10 or so veterans to help establish culture. And there are up to ten national team locks who are not even going to participate. Just outstanding! Focus? Left back, Midfield and Goalie. let's go!

I think that generation if players are dine with the USWNT.....the program has moved on, and rightfully so because there are younger players in those positions that makes it easier to leave out the old guard....and I say that with total respect and gratitude for the old guard

since it’s not a fifa window, Lily plays for a european club which means she’s in the middle of her season and needs to stay to play games. that’s why this camp is only NWSL players :)!

All the european based players are missing + triple espresso, which means in reality there are not actually many positions open for new players. Not sure why they are hyping "big change" nonsense.
@KarenBartlett-p4l2 күн бұрын
The camp is to allow some really good WNSL players to get some individualized training. Emma is giving them an opportunity to improve their game. There really aren’t too many “open” positions but it will create individual competition so the super stars continue to up their game.

You've lost your mind, and its clear you either haven't watched triple espresso, or did you watch the Olympics if you think "they" were lucky....who is "they" by the way? None of the young attackers coming up can hold a candle to Mal, Trinity and Sophia, and thats evidenced by how the goals dry up when they are not in the lineup, but nice try though 😂
