Thank you. I do not use a metal strip. The metal strips are added to generic shields because they do not use veg tan leather which is much stronger. They use a cheap leather imitation.

The tan kite has been working very well. My Lt has my first shield ever, and it's going on 2 yrs now. Other than some darkening it's in good condition
