It's here. The eagerly anticipated Mission Across Scotland, featuring myself and the heroic Welsh Greg, who was hungrier than ever for straight line success after our hiccup in Wales 2020. However, with our longest, most dangerous and action packed line to date waiting patiently for us over the border, the nerves were real. Even with meticulous planning and logistics.
Join us in part 1 as we prepare for take off, and the first stretch of the mission, a stretch dominated by wet feet and the unescapable presence of our biggest obstacle to date: The 95 acre Norbord MDF Factory. Would we even be able to scale it's 8ft barbed wire fence and get inside? Watch till the end to find out.

As someone who has gained entrance to many fenced off areas over the years I can confirm that if you're wearing a high vis jacket and a helmet most people will assume that you're supposed to be there doing whatever you're doing. Also a weird quirk of hiding from prying eyes in urban environments is that people rarely look up, if you can get up a drain and onto a roof you're pretty much invisible

Love your work, but have a few suggestions from this and past missions: 1. Get a retractable tool lanyard for securely attaching your GPS to your clothes/pack etc. The number of times in past missions when you've jumped somewhere perilous holding the GPS just makes me really worried you will either lose it, or land badly and get injured through having one hand unavailable. 2. Get some clear wraparound glasses or plastic eye protective goggles to wear when moving through gorse, hedges and undergrowth. One moment of inattention and you could get a mission-ending or even permanently blinding eye injury. I do realise that a lot of your risks are carefully weighed up against the inconvenience of taking countermeasures and the likelihood of them occurring, but I think eye injury from branches really sits on the likely and easily addressable end of that scale. 3. Print and carry a few business cards listing some info about the mission and a link to the KZbin channel. Useful both for giving to interested people along the way, but also lending some credibility to your story if you get challenged by landowners, security or police. Please do let me know your thoughts on these suggestions.
@veryveryintense
@veryveryintense 3 жыл бұрын
Very good suggestions. I started wearing clear wraparound glasses for anything outdoorsy after I got a bit of gravel embedded in my eyeball when cycling and it got infected. You only make that kind of mistake once... Not to mention I share your anxiety around losing the GPS/getting hurt trying not to lose it. No GPS, no mission.

@@palmberry5576 what are you talking about it's absolutely terrible advice. No one asks what you're doing in a high vis in a built up city. They surely will in the middle of a field. The army train up there all the time so no one would ask anyway. One of the guys even says what are you doing training? For this exact reason. High vis jacket what a load of brain vomit
