for anyone thinking about installing it this way, do follow the directions when it says position the temporary wood brackets 3/8 from the edge of the headers. otherwise, you are installing the ladder with the face flush with the drywall and NOT the ladder frame which means you'll have a 1/4 - 3/8 inch gap between your finish trim and ladder frame. this way also allows you to open/close the ladder while resting on the temporary supports to make sure nothing is off or at an angle. also, I found it helpful to simply put in the two header temporary screws and then closing it to check for an even reveal and proper operation - shimming the header if absolutely necessary. then move on to the opposite header and doing the same. finally the edges. this ensures an even reveal for trim and proper function. once the temporary screws are all in, then move on to the lags. of course, if your hole is perfectly square, you've got less work to do.

How did you escape from the attic with those 2 boards up on the ceiling?
@AGuyandHisProjects4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and good question lol. Personally this was a secondary access so I went down the other one. If you bring a saw up there with you though, once you get a couple of bolts in place theoretically I think you could cut the boards out from up top
@alaluke71594 жыл бұрын
I am in a situation where I need to take mine down to make an more exact and stronger rough opening. I don’t have a way to get out if I place the boards on the ceiling and walked up the ladder and into the attic. If I can get away with just the screws to temporarily hold the heavy end of the ladder, it would be good enough so I could install the bolts through each side of the frame of the ladder into ceiling beams.

With the temporary supports would it already make it square with the drywall ceiling now just needs to square it in the opening?
@AGuyandHisProjects4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Still have to square it all up

What screws did you use did you have to predrill
@AGuyandHisProjects3 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't remember what size the lags were but yes predrilled to keep wood from splitting. If I was to guess I'd say I probably used 7/16 or 3/8 lags...but that is a guess, I don't remember

Ahh. Waste of time in this. I cut my hole stuck the damn thing up there and put 6 galvanized nails in it and it has worked great for almost 6 years and counting. I guess I just have more stuff to get done than other people do but to burn a days time and $20 extra materials to put a ladder in and not even finish it with the mouldings to have to come back to another day and finish? I think I would rather get it done and stop over complicating simple things and stay away from having half done projects. Keep it simple, get it done, and move on to the next task and repeat.

Yes. At the end of this video if you have not cut the ladder since then. It is too long and not safe to use.
