Awesome hike. I like the ruggedness of this trail. John is an awesome guy. Great shoutout! Thanks for the mention. I appreciate it! Awesome springs. Spring water is so fresh and delicious too. Well done on your climb. The views were beautiful. Take care and viva CZ after that hike. Have a great day.

The west side is far more rugged than the east. You're welcome for the shoutout and yes John is an awesome guy as well as you. I have to give Delmar some credit on this one as he filmed the footage from the very top as my hip wouldn't let me make the final climb. I did have a CZ waiting on me when I got back to the car. Thanks my friend and have a fantastic week!

Awesome views Jim! Nice clear weather! Sure does sound steep, but it didn’t look busy, that’s a bonus! We don’t really see springs in our area, I’ve just seen 2 in eastern Washington- I find them quite special and amazing!! Nice shout-outs to Utah YT friends!! 👌🙌🙌 👍👍

@@JimHayesHiking Way to go Delmar! Stand in photographer! Looked really rocky up towards the last bit. I recently cut a hike short too, before reaching to top- a long day and we were worn out. We have to make good decisions so we can stay safe and hike back to the car! I hope you’re feeling good and your hip is too. 👌😄 Jen

Another great hike to some amazing views. Hiking up to near 6,000 ft. elevation would gas me! I’m not used to that.. lol .. I definitely would top my water bottles off at that spring for sure. That water is filtered by Mother Earth herself and would taste good. There are several springs like that in my area, usually near old homesites, where I always refill my bottles. I don’t even bother to filter it. Take care Jim. Keep on knocking those miles down my friend.

Grandfather is a very hard hike from that side especially. I didn't even make all the way to the very top as my hip went out on me so I gave Delmar my GoPro and he filmed the footage from up there. We were good on water but yeah that high up I rarely filter it. Thanks a bunch my friend!

Now there's a unique view grandfather that I don't think I've seen from anyone before...cool!! Just a trickle of water, but as you say, take one's time and you'll have a great jug of some pretty fresh water I'd bet! Wow, what a view!! Looks like one could sit on a few of them rocks and make like a bobsledder heading down the mountain in no time!! lol That was a really good one and would certainly see me returning...once I caught my breath and forgot just how steep it was in places! lol Enjoy the week ahead, Jim.

Yes,we usually come up from the other side of the mountain as it's alot easier. The views are pretty incredible from up top and I actually wasn't able to make the final push to the top because of my hip so I gave Delmar the GoPro and he filmed that footage. Thanks a great hike up there! That breeze at the top must have felt nice😁 That climbing on the rocks at 8:40 made me a little nervous😱 It looked like a long fall down if you tripped! You have a beautiful area there to explore😍 I hope you're having a great weekend, Jim😀
@JimHayesHiking5 ай бұрын
Oh man,that breeze felt really great as it was at least 15 degrees cooler up there than at the trailhead. The footage @8:40 was filmed by Delmar as my hip gave out about 50 feet from the summit and I wasn't able to make it. Thanks my friend I hope your weekend is a good one too!

You said a "Looksee"!! I never heard anyone but me and my dad say we gotta give things a "Looksee"! 😂 That made my day! 🤣 I see the face. I needed that zoom in though. I thought for sure you've been youtubing longer than that. That's definitely a good flow for water! Gorgeous views! Great video! It's always worth that strenuous climb! 😁💚👊
@JimHayesHiking5 ай бұрын
That's so funny as I can't recall anyone saying 'looksee'' but me,lol! Yeah it's kinda hard to make out the Profile in the summer time. I have had my channel since 2012 but only posted short clips and picture slideshows until I bought my GoPro in May of 2020 and first showed my face on camera so that's pretty much when I consider that I actually started with full videos. It's a hard climb up but yes those views are well worth it! As always thanks IceBear!

Hi Jim. What a great video. I enjoyed seeing a part of that area I'd not been on before. In September, 2005, I took a group of couples from our church (then, in Cumming, GA) to Boone. Four of us hiked the Grandfather Trail from near the swinging bridge up to MacRae Peak (to the summit and back), through the Shute to Attic Peak, then to Calloway Peak where we ate lunch. We returned the same way except when we got to the bottom of the Shute, we took the Underwood Trail down vs. going back on the Grandfather Trail as we came up. We all felt we would have been better to stay on the Grandfather Trail. I mented this to see if you've done this route. I'd like to take my grandson(s) up there to enjoy the ladders and views. I remember seeing Grandfather Mountain from the top of Hump Mountain on the AT. Was great to go there some years later. Keep up the great work, thanks for bringing us along. I enjoy your photography as well as your great narration. God Bless!
@JimHayesHiking5 ай бұрын
Hi Ken, I've hiked Grandfather many times and 90% of the time I approach from the eastern side off of the Blueridge Parkway as it's much easier from that side in my opinion anyway. Only once did I venture past Attic Window Peak coming from the Profile Trail and Delmar and I got about halfway down the Shute and were forced to turn back as it was getting too late in the day and we had to be off the mountain by 6 p.m. since it was early spring and they closed the parking lot gate at 6. There's two ladders on the Daniel Boone Scout Trail plus a plane crash site about 50 yards off the trail right before the first ladder. Grandfather is an awesome place for sure. Thanks for watching my friend!
