ATtiny 85 Serial Print

ATtiny MCU’s have no hardware UART so you can not use the serial monitor out of the box.
In this video I will show 2 ways to enable serial.print for the Attiny85
I will use an ATtiny with the “Snapduino” bootloader that we made in the previous video, but it can also work with other ATtiny bootloaders.

1 A nice touch to overlay the crucial parts with big letters to clarify. 👍 2 Increase DPI, and picture will be less blurred. But don't stop doing no 1!

DigiCDC has become a hassle to compile, and hard to use (I hear) in Windows. Have used it quite a bit though. With a protective resistor, it is possible manage TX+RX on a single line. Add a CH340N to your dev board with this rig, and it may be possible to serial-print and and run a bootloader with with just the Reset and one data line, freeing 4 pins for GPIO.

Hello Mr. T does this work with any type of UART adapter? Cause I am getting this error: avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x20 avrdude: ser_drain(): read error: Device not configured thank you so much

Hello regisrobart! I connected an LED with a 330Ω resistor to PIN 7, for the Serial Print function it is not needed.

What about the different Attiny support boards? I use the SpenceKonde ATTinyCore. Do you recommend the dmellis Attiny or are practically the same? Thank you very much. I love these Attiny85 videos 😃🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽.

Thanks Marshall100w6 🙂 The SpenceKonde is the most compete one if you know what you are doing, it also includes versions without bootloader etc. and does not use up much flash memory, I really recommend this one because it enables you to play with other types as well (Atiiny 25,45, Attiny 13)... In this video I used the dmellis one, because it is easy to use for beginners (...after you flashed the bootloader), and it is reliable using a FTDI. The Digistump looks great but does not always work because the USB is not a standard USB.
