Most people use 74hct595 chip. Serial to parallel chip.

Hi, I have this setup with my attiny. I am only using one PCF io expander on the i2c bus. For some reason, after it has been running for a couple of minutes, the bus starts to crash. It starts missing a few signals, then becomes completely stuck. What might the cause be?

Thank you for the explanation. How do you know each address of the extenders? Was it a factory default setting? Or did you program it? Then how do you program it? :) Thank you for an answer!

The 7-bit slave address is 010 0A2A1A0, where the As are address pins, where each address pin is either grounded or connected to Vcc to give you 8 different addresses.

Yes you can use cascaded 74595. I have previous videos demonstrating this.
