The hardest part for me was when people would look at me and say "you look fine to me". Please keep in mind that family members are affected by the injury too. They need help through it too. God Bless You all. Keep working on recovery.

The difficult part of having a TBI is that in most cases you can't see the injury, so people just "see" you as fine. You hang in there ok? Over time you'Il find your groove again. Just give yourself time. God Bless.

I had a TBI 18 years ago . I had a fall down some concrete stairs and hit my head on the corner of one . I had a skull fracture with a subdural hematoma . The same injury that killed Natasha Richardson . To this day I don’t know how I survived . My insurance company denied burr hole surgery to take the pressure off my brain and basically I was sent home to die . I slept on a mattress on the floor for over a year because of vertigo and falls . I lost my sense of taste and smell and was horribly depressed for a long time . I’ve survived though and even though my life has drastically changed it’s better now than I could have ever hoped it would be . I still have dizzy spells and horrible migraines and fatigue but I’m so much better . I was diagnosed with occipital neuralgia in 2017 from the injury to my neck in the fall and it has presented new obstacles to overcome but I’ve lived to see my two wonderful grandsons be born and change my world in the best way possible . They are 7 and 5 and are my life . I was able to go back to work five years after my injury helping mentally challenged adults and I was able to do that until 2010 . I am disabled now and unable to work but I’m living the best life I can possibly do . All I want anyone to know that’s suffered a TBI is it does get better , no it will never be the same but you find other ways to compensate for it . Live and love your life , do your best . That’s all anyone can ask of you . Try and be happy and find meaning in your life . I wish everyone dealing with this peace and love and joy ❤️

I can't tell you how much it means to me to watch this. I had a major stroke when I was 13, over 20 years ago now, but even though I have largely recovered some of the symptoms still remain to this day. Often strangers don't know whats wrong with me as I appear an intelligent, likeable young man, but fatigue hits me quite easily with exhaustion, slurred speech, light-headedness, and brain fog. What really made it hard for me was not being able to find the right 'fit' in a lot of workplaces and social situations. To this day I still haven't found a 'cure' to this issue, but I can only do what I can and that is make the best of everyday and appreciate what I do have.

When I was 14 years old I was riding my bike, crossing the street, when an SUV came speeding down the road and hit me. I went flying in the air and landed with the back of my head first directly on the pavement. I suffered severe brain damage, was clinically dead, and the doctors thought there was no way that I would survive. I'm now 23 years old and a student at a university studying mathematics education. I got unbelievably lucky. For most people that experience the kind of injury I experienced, it's either death, or living with severely limited brain function. I still consider myself lucky every single morning that I'm in the situation that I'm in. For everyone else that experiences a TBI, I understand your experience, and I just hope that you can get as lucky as I did.

This is one of the most heartbreaking but fascinating documentaries I've ever watched. At the same time it's kind of uplifting in a strange way because they're only gonna get better, it's like the opposite of watching someone die in a hospital, we're watching them (hopefully) regain a life. I get none of them will ever be 100% again but the optimism and display of pure humanity is staggering and inspirational. I'm so sad this had to happen to anyone but I'm very happy this channel chose to make a video series about it because it really put my life in perspective and made me want to be a better person.

I was diagnosed with brain cancer one and half years ago. it was a 4 inch tumor in my right frontal lobe. I had brain surgery to debulk it, then chemo and radiation to shrink the remnants left after surgery. post op I went to a rehab center like this . I am much better off than these patients in that I never lost mobility, or sight. I recognize the rehab techniques. what was the most difficult for me was being a fall risk patient, and being put on bed which went off if I got out of bed to,use the toilet. it was a relief to go home and have no alarms. I wish these lovely patients all the best for their recovery. even though I am not religious people's prayers really helped

I suffered a TBI when I was a child that registered the same level on the coma scale as the woman cyclist, I was not expected to live let alone be a normal functioning person, however I recovered about as well as the truck driver's son, just minor screw ups in speech that aren't necessarily alarming along with minor motor skill challenges. Have they tried prism glasses for her?.... this was hard to watch. My heart is with them all
Sara K Hi Sara! I am a subscriber of yours and think you are absolutely amazing with such a beautiful soul and heart! 💖 I know you suffered a TBI in your car wreck right?? My big Brother Jesse has been in the ICU for three weeks after suffering a severe TBI after falling down a basement staircase at my parents house. He had immediate brain surgery that saved his life after removing a very large blood clot on the left side of his brain. He also had a smaller bleed on the right side. He suffered several other broken bones and is in really bad shape. We were told to consider quality of life for him after only six days, the doctors said he would be on a ventilator for the rest of his life and would never speak or be aware of his surroundings. Well they were wrong because after about 2,000 or more people praying for him on the night of the 6th day, he opened his right eye when my mom asked him for a sign to either keep fighting for him or let him go to be with God. He is now off the ventilator and has a trache, two days with his trach and he was breathing on his own 100% off forced oxygen! He now shakes his head yes and no in response to questions and a few days ago he sat up twice on his own in his bed!! Today he isn't doing so well. He has pneumonia and a UTI and isn't feeling well at all. We still have such a long road with Jesse. I wanted to ask you for a little advise on how we can help him through his recovery. We still dont know if he will ever walk or speak and this is breaking my Moms heart. I would love to hear about your recovery and how your brain injury plays a role in your life today, or if it even does. Do you have a video about this already? If you are a believer in God or even just a higher power can you please pray for my Brother and family? I also wanted to tell you that prayed for you after seeing you lost your Daddy and was so heartbroken for you, i wish i could have just gave you a hug and been a friend to you so i could help you through it. You are sooooo much stronger than you know Sara! I wish I could be as strong as you during my Brothers struggle. It's so hard when you love someone so much but can't do a damn thing to fix them! Thank you so much for your time Sara, hope you are doing well! 😙💖❤💜💙💚💛

Not only did I survive, but I had minimal lasting damage aside from some problems with my ears and hearing, slightly affected eyesight and pupil response and a bit of a fuzzy memory. I am very lucky.

❤ I'm sending so much love to everyone of ye. ❤ I was 7 in 1978, when I received a blow to the head during a car accident. I just turned 50, and still deal with the tremors in my right hand, just not as bad as in childhood years. Let's encourage the people as much as we can. I wish I had received encouragement. I was told I was very smart before, but completely changed in personality after the accident. Gosh...so much love to you!! I'm proud of you, no matter!!

I also suffered a TBI 3 years ago in a car accident which wasn't my fault. When I got out of my car to ask the other driver if she was alright, all she said was "Do my parents have to find out? . It tears me up that here I am 3 years later struggling to keep my life and family together whilst fighting insurance companies and their sham doctors who love to say "all mild brain injuries heal in 3-12 months" or "this man presented very professionally. There's nothing wrong with him" . I got to the point where suicide looked viable and I ended up attempting. It's really hard to accept and Kegan's excerpt jerked tears out of my eyes because I know that feeling all too well. There's hope for everyone when proper treatment and supports are put into place. Never give up!

Omg I have a tbi too , but my injury isn’t close to any of these . I’ll try to never complain again . It’s hard to just wake up in the morning and go to work where you are judged harshly by all . No one knows how hard it is to live with a TBI and no one cares . Except the people who have had one , we all understand .

My heart breaks for these people and their loved ones aka caretakers. When Eltje started crying saying her life lost its shine, that broke me Terry's wife I feel so sad for her. She loves her husband so much and he's not progressing. You can see the pain in her eyes. The young guy I hope he continues to improve. His mom is amazing. I wish I could help these people. Eltje is incredibly smart. She knows it’s crucial to do as much rehab as possible. It’s very rare to see someone say “I have problems with my right hand, so I eat with my right hand”. That is just brilliant. She is such a fighter and I really commend her.

I'm dealing with post concussion syndrome right now and it's horrible, it's a battle every day I wake up. I can't believe that boxing did this to me, the sport that I love. I just hope there could be more treatments in the future for TBI and Concussions.

What the psychologist said about how each case is different is SO TRUE! I had something similar to the cyclist happen to me when I was 18. I was biking and was hit by a car. My head broke off the right rear view mirror, was cut open, then SMACKED the ground. However, the only thing I suffered was that gash and a goose egg on my head. No brain trauma. Lol! I guess my parents were right! I do have a thick head!

I have a family member who was in a car accident, now after 18 years and at 50, he seems to be getting more forgetful and sometimes he goes off track while talking he will hop to another topic, or forget what he was talking about . I wish I could help him. But I have no idea what could help. He drives and works and likes to cook.. Looks normal, dresses very nicely... Sometimes people thinks he's off, but they don't know it's because he had an accident, it makes me very sad♥️

What's interesting is the psychologist mentioned the importance of family during rehab and how they're often the driving force behind recovery, but Eltje had no family visit her and she was by far the most motivated and successful in her rehabilitation.

My son suffered a TBI here in the USA, almost a year ago. The doctor's said he was shaken baby... when he was taken off life support, it was a good thing, he was stuck on a loop. He has an anxiety issue now, but he's the same for the most part! Still not sure if he's suffering from being on Keppra, and then taken off, or ??? It's definitely been a ride. He was in the hospital for about a month, they said he needed rest, but proceeded to wake him every chance they got.. honestly didn't see him improve until he came home. He also suffered a burst fracture of the C7, the kid is a miracle! He's walking and talking, he was able to graduate high school early! Just the anxiety... he is constantly going into an attack. He'll run in the living room saying he's about to die, something is off... and no doctor will do anything. They just want to put him on lexapro or zoloft.... he doesn't want drugs

Watching this makes me realize how grateful I am that I've gone through five awful awful head injuries that are considered TBIs. I couldn't talk or write for the longest time. One of the kind of places would've been nice during that time. It started to get better, but now everything is getting worse again but I'm still fighting it. Edit: it makes me grateful that i wasn't harmed this severely. But it's still hard when people act like nothing could have happened because I look normal. But because of what has happened everyone assumes that I'm on drugs though. That hurts more than anything else.

I had a head injury and it was a mild concussion. I could find no one who would take me seriously. I just don't understand why there is not rehab help for those with lesser level head injuries-and no health professional seems to have any answers. ( I told my doctor again about my symptoms this is almost 2 years post injury, and she said the health care system is imperfect.) I was told by a sports doctor, that my symptoms were normal, 6 months post head injury. He told me if I was actually a dancer or an athlete of some sort he would help me, but since I was not a top level athlete he had nothing for me. I am heart broken pretty much to miss that aspect of my life. It mostly affects my ability to exercise, which was a huge and beloved part of my life. Seeing people who are so much worse off than I am really pulls at my heart strings. A life derailed. Having a good attitude I guess is all you can do. To dwell on the positive. Honestly, not there are not enough tears I could cry for all of those suffering from a head injury.

TBI survivor here, I was also 22. I'm 24 now. Mine was different because I lost my dad, and a lot of people think that because I speak well (most of the time) that I'm no longer injured. The anxiety and tremors are bad. I'm glad that they are showing so many different cases. I'm going to share this with my TBI group.
@belindawilson13508 ай бұрын
I agree so many with TBI are so misunderstood. Once the scars have healed they presume the brain has too. The pressure put on you just adds to your stress. Please Don't feel offended I speak of myself. I did find it so hard to try and function in the"normal"brain functioning world. After my 4th craniotomy my eye was damaged and frontal and temporal bone rather disfigured due to unavoidable bone loss. The weird thing is that I soon realized that with new damaged face, people expected me to have a damaged brain. So in fact it did indeed make my life less stressful. Society should know more about TBI. Just because you look fine does not mean your don't have TBI. Be brave,be strong and never give up ❤❤

The man said exactly why he's laughing...just having a good time and you tell him not to laugh but if he's was crying and you asked him why he was crying and he said I'm sad then this would be acceptable? Let the man laugh. My gosh leave him alone.

I had to stop watching when she said she wanted to ride her bike.. made me cry. I feel for her. What a amazing woman. Also it reminds me of how truly blessed I am. At 17 I was a passenger in a jeep that rolled end over end 3 times. The girl driving died. I had a open skull fracture and brain swelling. Was air lifted to hospital. I have very few remaining symptoms and no one would ever know unless I tell them. It’s been over 20 years. My left and right sides what equal now. Speech is spot on. I am very ... so very lucky.

I ended up falling really hard down a pair of our stairs and boom i hit my head and i lost some memory, my left side likes to twitch every now and then. I cant really speak that well. Thats how hard i hit my head. Didnt help when i had a seizure when it happened. Also hard to remember how to write sometimes then and now. Time to time.

Asking for prayers for my Brother Jesse who is currently in intensive care after suffering a severe traumatic brain injury from falling down about 25 steps onto a concrete basement floor at my parents house. He also suffered many broken bones, a bruised lung and lacerated liver. We found out today he has pneumonia and a UTI, so he is not doing well right now at all. Any prayers for Jesse and also for our Mom who is so upset and struggling with this would be so appreciated! If you are not a believer i completely respect that and would still take some well wishes to hopefully show my Brother one day! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤❤❤

I got 1 in the family my father had his accident way back 2007 he was recovered but definitely not full recovery at all and the feeling is mutual with these families. if you see my father he is normal physically but it's affected his attitude he is not the same man. the way he acts its like a 5 year old boy in a 64 year old body. he's very inquisitive. he doesn't even know lots of things and forgets doing his usual habbit in every day life. we have to monitor him 24/7. we know if he just knew what was is he doing right now he's going to say sorry for my actions and thanks for all the cares and sacrifices that you have done for me for so many years right now... I this kind and loving and caring mother who supports my father through this bad times in our lives. GOD BLESS THESE FAMILIES!!! I am working on my 4th year of TBI recovery;I remember the accident, I was awake during the surgery. It was so weird to feel the drill and my brain being wiggled around. When I woke up I had to relearn everything from walking to talking. It has been challenging re-learning everything; never give up. You have to be strong for yourself but there are a lot of good people out there to help as you will need it. The hardest part is accepting the things that I once did are to risky now so I am learning to adapt to how life is now finding different ways to do things.
