Abermore: The Immersive Sim so bad it's AMAZING!!!

Abermore is... a game? It's certainly a very bad one, so bad, it's AMAZING! (like in a way where it's fun to play when you get your friends together and make fun of it). I have no idea what the developers' plans were but I don't think they worked out. Abermore is a game whose gamepaly tries to emulate the Thief trilogy and Dishonored but falls flat on its face in a buggy, unplayable mess that doesn't seem like it's getting any patches soon. The store is also an absurd wall of text where uncanny valley NPCs rock back and fourth at you while the text goes on to a monotonous tone. You can buy this game if you really want, but it's recommended unless you've got a few friends handy to laugh at it with out.

I did not have a job at end of development, and still don't. I was doing a large chunk of bugfixing the month before release which pub didn't put in until after release. those first two patches, were a fuckload of work and they almost didn't even happen. I wish I had something at the end of this but I'm glad you could drive yourself insane this was a fun video

i have a multitude of problems with that game but it was ok. i hate that it repops every single time you do anything because that incentivizes you to never fight anything like BOTW or something because it's literally only ever a waste of resources with zero reward. that and making the fountains infinite and restore one health just to waste my fucking time. the intro sequence and the zero g portions are the only good parts. i just want dead space without the necromorphs or system shock without the jank.

16:14 - I remember something similar from Deus Ex Invisible War, where you could pay the jet pilot dude with the sunglasses some ridiculous amount of money to use his rockets on his jet to take out one of the enemy faction bases on the final level. And he would just drop you on the island and never fire his rocket and just laugh at your ass telling how he ripped you off.

Knowing nothing about this game’s code, but being very familiar with Unity, I can almost guess exactly what’s going wrong for most of these bugs, why they didn’t find them, or didn’t have time to fix them, and what they’re reaction would have been after finding them, knowing they had no time to fix them.

I have a STRONG feeling you're already aware of this game, but another "So bad it's good" immersive sim would be Brigand: Oaxaca. I've seen a video on it by youtube user Tehsnakerer, and I _tried_ to play it but I couldn't get the sound to work. Also, the dev is a pretty cool dude. That said, it's not nearly as bad as Abermore. It's more like a combination of 40% actually problematic jank (mostly caused by the dev using a terrible engine) and 60% cursed presentation.

hey, just started the vid and there is something I’d like to point out as someone with unity experience. the walking animation being so bad is not due to lack of mocap (which an indie dev is unlikely to have access to), but to a lack of time and/or experience. Unity actually has some pretty cool IK features that hep the character’s feet track the correct position on the floor. besides, all that was really needed was to speed up the animation so it would fit with the speed at which they are moving. too bad this game turned out this way, was hoping it would help the renaissance of i sims in indie space. Oh well, we still have Gloomwood to look forward to.

Just in case it wasn't obvious I did slow the part where you can see the dude down a bit so we all could get a good look at the guy, but I think you mean the walking animation in relation to his move speed. I could see how if the animation was sped up a bit the NPC wouldn't look like he was moonwalking in reverse.

Oh shit! I may watched your video half heartedly and get some chuckles about this failed immersion sims, and then you've mentioned 10 seconds ninja. I immediately know who worked on it and...hate how it all fell flat. They worked on gamemaker studio and it seemed they tried to move to a newer platform to work on games. For what it looks, it maybe the first time that they tried to use a different game engine which unfortunately didn't do as well.. which is sad because if the aim is creating an immersion sims they should have stuck with the system they're familiar with and crank out something similar to streets of rogue. But one can't learn without taking chances and making mistakes. Failed projects are a stepping stones for future developers to learn from and forge better and newer paths, and I hope this helps create a better future for better games despite its flop.

Remember, take a day off for every day up if you want to keep the magic. (No, but seriously you okay?) Since you've started covering pseudo-im-sims with procedural generation, you might want to check out Unexplored; it's got amazing world generation with functional puzzles (with hints provided through journals found throughout the dungeon). The im-sim vibes come from assorted traversal tools, throwing/dropping items to test pressure plates and trigger timed switches, and torch/flask interactions with the environment.

This is like the poor man's version of Dishonored, Deus Ex or a more updated Thief. Speaking of a more updated Thief, if you want to play a freeware homage to the original Thief trilogy in great quality and with great attention to detail, check out The Dark Mod. Entirely freeware, entirely standalone, the stealth is what you know from the original, there are hundreds of detailed and varied classic Thief missions. (Though it uses its own Thief-like setting, to avoid copyright issues.) A recent indie dev had also created a project called Delightfyl, another Thief-like game with great ambience, though it's still a work in progress.
