Can't wait until it's warm enough here to get started. I have a pretty hefty goal this year in the bee yards.

Great tips. Another great use for 5 gal buckets! I planted a "Pollinator Garden" in front of our raised beds last year, and I'm anxious to see how many of the plants come back this year....especially after the upcoming single digits. ugh. Y'all stay warm. I'm sure there is extra prep on the farm for temps like we are having...

I have hummingbird feeders hanging in my garden and the bees gather around that so much the hummingbird won't feed on it. So, I made a bowl with river rock/stones mounded up in it. I added the sugar water to the bowl and they still sometimes drown in that, straying to far from the stones I guess. There were so many bees there one day, when I walked past, a bee flew between my face and my glasses. Yep, he got me. I had a swollen eye for weeks. It was funny afterwards. I moved the bowl well out of my walkway so thay doesn't happen again.🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Fill the bowl with large and small rocks leaving only a small space that reaches the bottom. Then the bees will have access to the sweet water and will always have a way out.

Out of all the homestead channels that have bee's you're the only one that knows what they are talking about, you are the best beekeeper Ben! :)

Ben this was such great advice- I want to attract Bees but do not have the space to keep a hive ( I buy my honey from a great neighbour) so I am going to try one of those methods- will let you guys know how I go. Cheers Denise - Australia

Hi. Can the sugar water freeze in winter? Will those killer wasps of bees be also attracted to the sugar water? The bucket system is very creative. Peace to you and yours

If bees come out up here right now they would freeze we have had ice and snow since Monday.

I live pretty high up, 11th floor to be exact. I've seen the occasional bee but not very often so I know they can get this high, but if I put out a feeder can I count on getting a significant number of them?

Do I need to put sugar water out now? Can I order the pollen patties? This is my first winter I lost one hive. Have two now.
@VWFamilyFarm3 жыл бұрын
It’s good to and yes you can order them now.

Hubby is highly allergic, I would love to have bees, rather than the yellow jackets and Hornets we seem to have around. Hate those things!
