@@primalreversion7034 (copy-pasted from dillionderosa.com): The main theme of the south, Dixieland and the theme of the North, Battle Hymn of the Republic are played one after the other to depict the conflict between the two armies. A development battle ensues as the conflict between the two grow. Concluding the battle is a triumphant version of Dixieland to represent the South dominating the war up to this point. General Stonewall Jackson is introduced next in a joyous marching victory. His theme is built to a climatic end with two abrupt cannon shots to represent Jackson’s sudden death when he was shot twice by his own confused men. The North then starts to have major victories with battles such as Gettysburg and Vicksburg. These northern victories forced the South to be on the defensive for the rest of the war. After a grandiose Battle Hymn of the Republic, the south returns with William T. Sherman’s theme, Marching Through Georgia. Continuing with the southern themes, Swing Low is introduced to represent the struggle of the slaves. The North and South themes return once more before another developmental battle erupts. However, this time the North is victorious concluding the war between them. The piece ends in a exciting coda with the North, South, and the abolishment of slavery represented with a jubilant Swing Low finale.

Many of their psalms are based on secular melodies of the time so make of that what you will. @cheesedoff-with44103 жыл бұрын
Did Matthew Hopkins hate music? True, the only music in a puritan service were psalms, (no organ), but puritans did have music outside of the church. Do we know anything about the musical tastes of the innkeeper of the Thorn at Mistley? (I've looked and haven't found anything so far). The character that Vincent Price played may indeed have hated secular music; I don't know - it was back in the 70s when I saw it on telly, and I can't remember. And in the course of checking, I find the UK version is shorter than the US cut, has a different title, and the scores are by different composers! I'll bet the US version doesn't have the spaceship scene.

It almost tells a story, with Dixie being the south declaring independence and seceding from the union with loud and hopeful music, that turns sour and grim with what that actually stands for, and what it meant for the slaves. Then things slowly gain from there, until, BAM! The Union invades, and the war has begun! I love how from there you can almost hear the themes of the two opposing forces clashing with one another!

I have just begun listening, but I am already hoping for the resumption of 4th of July fireworks displays. With real cannon at the climax of the 1861 Overture!

A most excellent and least expensive yet truly marvelous exposure to the themes of the Muses mixed with a pinch of kitch added and blended carefully in with a dollop of fine Kentucky Whiskey* in concert with a dram of satire that illuminates the passing moments of this angst ridden existence into a bas relief reflection of our slow tread through this time in thecovid daze....well chosen my fellow Jackanape and kudos to you!! * do thy relatives still make the Rye & Whiskey that travelled so memorably into my conscienceless that one fine July evening in mutual celebration of out upcoming glorious victory of the invading blue coats as we stood on upon that proud promenade overlooking our fair city?
