Some people say that Ron Burgundy was inspired by Jim Gardner at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. As of May 2012, WPVI still uses this theme to this day and Gardner is still that station's flagship anchorman after 36 years, doing the 6 PM and 11 PM Action News newscasts. He is considered the dean of Philly TV news. "Move Closer to Your World" has been called "WPVI's national anthem" as they have used it continuously since 1972. WPVI has strongly dominated the ratings books in Philly since the 1970s.

You can see a direct image from up above at 0:35 of what the area at the tennis center (Rod Laver Arena) used to look like before it got built when the site was vacant parklands.

Does anyone else remember when Channel 10 was Channel 0? Another curious thing is that David Johnston, Mal Walden and Brian Naylor, all of whom went on to long careers as news anchors, were all originally Channel 7 presenters. Jana Wendt, a serious, intelligent journalist, way too talented to be a presenter.

Wendt was only 24 years old in 1980.

Anyone else here reckon that Laurie Oakes in this clip reminds them of Penfold from Danger Mouse? (And no, not just because he's wearing glasses...)

Even ABC 7 in Buffalo, NY, USA has Al Ham's tune. WKBW, that is.

Laurie Oakes will always be a dill. I don't like him at all. I actually call him Laurie Crokes instead of Oakes.

Wendt was always just a touch too 'distant', too arrogant, and too full of herself, for my liking. Even her fluffy hairstyle in this clip is way over the top. Wow .. 30 years ago, & doesn't Laurie Oakes look so thin back then. I liked the Ch 10 news theme of those days .. much better than their one today.
