Never listened to the FBB after Gram left as they lost the sound I fell in love with

I saw a post, about not knowing there were so many configurations of FBB. I got ready to click the "Like", then saw that the post was from the late, great Byron Berline, one of the many members. RIP Byron. It's a cool thing, to see a post from you. Rock

Love the thought into this doc , it shows you the soul of Gram Parson dream go in so many ways and folks caring the name and music on . They all took it to a different way and Gram Parsons mix of cosmic country alive . Just like Doug Sahm did with his mix of boys in the bands . God bless them all and gave us good ol boys some where to during that jacked up Disco freak era .

Thanks for making and posting. This is a top 5 group for me, along with Gram Parsons solo music with Emmylou Harris, and anything Bernie Leadon ever played on: Dillard & Clark, Burritos, etc. Also, RIP Sneaky Pete Kleinow (In addition to the Flying Burrito Bros. and the Gumby TV Show, he was on tons of "country rock" recordings, like Jackson Browne Take it Easy).

Thanks Aubrunner. Never knew Jody had been a member, in more recent years. I met Sneaky Pete once on a nasty cold winter night at Doc Holliday's in Savage MN. It was a very sparse audience. The drummer seemed sorta pissed, he was bashing chunks out of his cymbals. It was a great show and Pete's playing was awesome.

First and foremost, excellent job. I had no idea Guilbeau had been with the Burritos. The only thing I've heard that I knew was him until now is the Nashville West album with Clarence White and Gene Parsons. That is a fabulous live set for anyone who hasn't seen it.

The Flying Burrito Brothers name was first used by Ian Dunlop and Mickey Gauvin after they left the International Submarine Band in California. It was a different band and I believe Gram copped the name from his old bandmates.

Very nice depiction of the evolution of the FBB. But, what happened to the original band from which Gram Parsons borrowed their name? The east coast Burrito band.
@margaretross9150 Жыл бұрын
Ian Dunlop, formerly with Gram in the ISB, was in that band and coined the name. They stopped playing together, so the name was vacated, and Gram and Chris took it over.

I think the reason Pete Kleinow left is because he was getting so much session work in L.A. it made financial sense. Jackson Browne. Frank Zappa. Steve Miller.

Not so long ago there was a serious attempt to get an "original" FBB back in the air. I think that Bernie Leadon, Al Perkins and Rick Roberts were keen. I'm not sure who was going to be the drummer- it might have been Gene Parsons. Anyway, Chris Hillman was not so keen. He is on record as saying that the only band he ever was happy to reform was The Desert Rose Band- which happens from time to time. Mind you, it would probably have been a great band.

Interesting to see that Cecil (Gram) stole the name from people he played with in 1967. No wonder they continued the name long after he was gone. I'll bet Ian Dunlop never saw a penny for the name he originated in spite of Parsons' huge trust fund ($50,000 per year). He even lied about The Byrds wanting to use the name for the "Notorious Byrd Brothers" album.
@margaretross91502 ай бұрын
Ian doesn't seem to mind the continued use of the FBB name. He gave a nice interview about Gram to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his passing and wrote affectionately about him in his wonderful book. Has also painted some great pictures of Gram. It seems to be just you who dislikes GP so much. And unless you knew him personally, that doesn't mean a lot.

@@ivark8201 I saw that band in the UK in the mid 70's and indeed I bought the album. Personally I think its very very lightweight, Etheridge wasn't there long and admitted it was a mistake. As a live act , they were competent, but uninspiring and to be honest disappointing , as i'd been a Byrds fan since they started and I was ripe to be impressed but they failed. A couple of years later I saw McGuinn , Clark and Hillman with solo bands and reuniting onstage at the Hammersmith Odeon, that was a better gig .
