I’m a die hard Georgia fan first off. I was 8 years old when this game happened. I remember playing basketball before the game hoping it would make Georgia win. I also remember the hit on Reggie Brown. I legit thought he was dead. A dominate Auburn team that would’ve won the national championship if they were given the chance.

Having Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams in the same backfield was damn near unfair to opposing defenses lol. I was 16 in 2004, very good times. War Eagle and God bless y’all!

This Auburn 04 team was loaded. It's a damn shame we never got a shot at USC. I don't know that Auburn would've won but we certainly would've made it close. Oklahoma got embarrassed in the bcs game. 6 years later we finally got our chance but that 04 team was even better than the 2010 team.

The ridiculous amount of talent AU had that year on both sides of the ball, I think there’s no way USC was beating AU that year. But you’re right, definitely would have been a better game than Oklahoma gave us.

How in the world Auburn didnt play for a national title that year is beyond belief.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing6 жыл бұрын
Not really "beyond belief" at least 1 or two teams got robbed EVERY YEAR who deserved to be #1 or #2 to get to play #1 or #2 and become champs in the BCS era....before the modern Playoff began in 2014...which now robs 1 or 2 teams who deserve to be #3 or #4 and maybe become champs.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing6 жыл бұрын
But its truly totally BEYOND BELIEF that for over 90 years there was no championship game; no BCS. Just arguments; bullshit polls, bullshit banners. So unlike Division II, III, the Bigtime CFB schools, their conferences and NY Day Bowl Rights owners were too greedy; selfish; hidebound to work together to create a Tournament system that crowns champions EVERYWHERE ELSE but Bigtime College Football. Beyond fucking belief, really. 90 years of arguments over Who gets the $$, who gets invited to Lucrative Bowls, and then Millions of $$ of TV money came to REALLY corrupt and entrench the nonsensical college football landscape at the very top. 5 Self Contained leagues; who only play within conference; and comparing the 5 best teams of each conference with eachother is an exercise in total futility and hypotheticals; like Polls and Bullshit Mathematical Models; strength of schedule never ever making sense; because its not possible to gauge anybody's strength besides stat counting thats means nothing when the competition is so different.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing6 жыл бұрын
The NFL does a decent job of ranking teams for the draft or Playoff entry and seeding tiebreakers. They include strength of schedule by using record against the same opponents and then if tied there, the point differential of same opponents. That's pretty fair....The schedule is so interlocking (within the AFC or NFC Conference) there's ALWAYS a similar foe; to judge relative strength. An NFC team plays another entire NFC division, plus its own division twice, plus 2 teams in the remaining divisions who finished in the same rank last season in division. So 1st place teams get to play all the other 1st place teams; which are often thrilling playoff rematch grudge matches. That gave us Colts v Patriots for 15 years; Cowboys Niners in the 90's. Which has never been the case in CFB. CFB teams want to schedule creampuffs, not bigtime foes from the other conferences; but if they DID fill out their Out of Conference schedules with Power teams; it would A) Make the whole damn season more lucrative and exciting; can't just skip Saturdays your team is always in a big game. B) Make ranking and Playoff entry and seeding much more reasonable and defendable. Two teams one SEC one B1G are tied at 11-1...But Both teams played Wisconsin; one was a 17-14 close game, the other was 45-3; so even though they have the same record; the team that blew out Wisconsin can be ranked one tiny step higher; and enter the playoffs.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing6 жыл бұрын
I think Interlocking schedules; will fix the Playoff Problem better then making it 6 or 8 teams. Although the extra games would be cool; they're often shitty blowouts from the disparities in Schedules. Interlocking the schedule allows everyone to know how good each team in each conference really is. But the Creampuffs; probably need the TV cash by being blown out 65-3 by Alabama on ESPN.

What hurt Auburn was their strength of schedule that year having The Citadel and UAB on the schedule didn’t help.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that. This 2004 Auburn team was one of the best to play college ball.

I'll also add that the 2010 and 2013 teams just had nasty nasty offenses compared to this team. But overall weren't as complete as the 2004 team.

Better than 2013 but close
@chinfuzzchet36163 жыл бұрын
2004 had a better D, better wr corp, and better rb tandem OL was probably even across the board although McNeill and Grubbs was the best left tandem Auburn ever had. Cam was just elite but if you take him out they were average everywhere except the OL. D-line was solid on 2010 plus Bynes.
@shrimpinainteasy73702 жыл бұрын
Better than 13 for sure, and definitely a better all around team than 10. Cam would have had to work some of his ridiculous magic to beat the 04 team, but we’ve certainly seen him pull off some miracles. If Cam is on the field they have a chance to beat anyone imo.

Auburn had Louisiana-Monroe replaced Georgia Tech, Louisiana-Tech, and The Citadel replaced Bowling Green. Five years removed from Appalachian State replaced Florida State

Bowling Green backed out of contract with Auburn in order to play Oklahoma. Ofcourse Auburn would have destroyed them but Bowling Green ended up having a good record which helped Oklahoma stay ahead in BCS rankings. No question Auburn had 3 weak non conference games but Auburn still had a much tougher conference slate than Oklahoma.

@@adamhayes5349 Auburn has backed out of a contract with Florida State twice in the 90's. But the famous $500,000 buyout brought media attention including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS, and Local TV Stations in Alabama.
