It took years to figure out how to make synthesizers sound like orchestra instruments. It took even longer to figure out how to make orchestra instruments sound like synthesizers.
@Shyid2 жыл бұрын
every harmonic sound can be broken down into a combination of sine waves in the same frequency (or a factor thereof) at different amplitudes and phases. Horns and woodwinds reflect this pattern and are complex sounds which are produced by the harmonics of many sine waves. However, stringed instruments produce a near perfect sine wave which, when many of them are combined in various phases and amplitudes could be used to reconstruct the wave made by the synthesizer. So the reconstruction of the synth sound is hard, but not as hard as you think. The more impressive part are the musicians who are playing at various phases (slightly on or off beat)... Although its quite possible this is all being managed in the mixer.

@@dissolution9843 I wouldn't say I'm all that musically inclined either, and these might be misconceptions on my part, but I think it's the way dj/music producers mix samples and use midi controllers, keyboards, and whatnot to create new sounds the same way composers combine different sections of the orchestra, with all the instruments of an orchestra and more sitting in a digitized library on the hardware of the electronic composer, and how a lot of classical orchestral music was basically ballroom dance music that you would dance to for hours on end while getting blitzed on wine, so modern Electronica is just it's latest iteration, imo.

Robin Gowin

This is so weird!! I thought I was going coo coo when my eyes welled up…why do you think this evoked that emotion? I cannot explain the chills and tears.

Happened to me too. I will try to put into words what I think it is: 1. There is perhaps an element of nostalgia that acts as a sort of “emotional appetiser”. I have never been to a rave and never been a partier but if you’re around my age this song was played a lot when you were a teenager. 2. It is an objectively “banger” song. There is a reason it is still somewhat popular. Very good use of sawtooth wave sound and in general the build works. 3. The symphony orchestra adds a level of dignity to it that slightly elevates it from a party song to something somehow more solemn/meaningful. A lot of dance songs are simple minor key chords/melodies and if slowed down would actually be quite mournful. This one is no different. The orchestra can bring out the essence of the (albeit simple) harmony/melody/chord structure. 4. The crowd all dancing in unison. There is something in the human heart that just yearns for unity and for healing and for everyone to just be together. I somehow saw something in these wide shots of the crowd that was like “and God looked down on all his children and smiled that they were all happy together” or something. Even if you are not religious maybe there is something in that attempt at putting it into words that touches on the substance of what is so moving about this.

@@anomaly72443 also, upon second listen I realised two more things: in the second “drop” in particular the orchestra is absolutely beefing up the chords and the overall presence of the track in a way that a lead synth just can’t . And this recording is quite good at capturing the real acoustics of the room. You feel quite like you are there and the acoustics are good. Very full sound.

This is what you get when a world class orchestra flexes , REALLY flexes. And I can't get enough of it.
