Auction Salvaged PS3 Repair

I buy two PS3 slims on an auction and try and repair them.
One unit goes on then off almost immediately.
The other cannot read the hard drive.
Trying to make my money back as this is something I like doing and will keep doing as long as I don't have to spend more money than I make!

Great video! I didn't expect that a power supply would resolve the issue. I see a lot of PS3s for sale that have similar symptoms. I always thought it was a yellow/ red light of death issue, thus avoiding them. I might give a repair a try since I have a dead Cech2000 model on hand. The flux on the board is normal; I've owned 3 Slims, and they all had it on the motherboard; 2 were unopened units. (Sticker still intact). Though, the one you had looks more severe than what I have seen before.

Hi Madcat. Thanks for the info on the soldering. I'm still learning as I go. Yeah,changing the power supply was the issue and the PS3 is still going strong. Hope it wasn't just me being lucky though! I have an early model PS3 that I picked up that is completely dead,also suspecting the power supply,but have not gotten around to opening it yet...Hope I get lucky again!

Do you know why the automatic generator fails to power on some circuits. We switched it off then back on so it worked
