Damn, that may be just be the nicest AP in their current catalogue. For mere mortals like myself, the standard automatic version is also a beauty. Check out my actual owners review.

That's a clean timepiece. Dial is kinda busy but it's not bad. I like it and honestly don't get why there's hate for this piece?

In my fantasy life I’d have this as my gold watch and the white gold Patek Grank Complications with the scrolled case as my silver watch and I’d be a happy boy.

So AP has thinned out the movement by modifying the winding rotor, does that explain the wierd placement of the crown? Its so low on the case. Once seen, it cannot be unseen!
@opulan4 жыл бұрын
its because with audemars piguet, they love using modular components on their movements, im guessing this calendar movement is just a massive module stacked ontop of a base movement, leading to the weird crown position

Never noticed that!!! Damn it.

Yeah but also if you look from a top view, the dial lies fairly deep in the case. From some angles it does not look like it because of the saphire but f.e. at 3:52 you see a pretty big gap between the chapterring and the dial - and it seems to me that the dial is on the height where the crown normally would be

The piece itself leaves me feeling indifferent but the distortions created by that cambered sapphire are mesmerizing.

it's the numerals in combination with the hands that kill the other 1159's

To me this is the best Code 11.59 there is. When the dial is not overflooded with complications, it ends up looking too empty.

This and the Openworked are the only Code 11:59s I like. Still, I do like the case, lug and sapphire design on all the Codes, it’s just those dial/font designs on most of them that are underwhelming. With the new Degradé dials still not helping much IMO.

I can't help but feel that the decision for the dial print was completely afterthought. So boring. Not even an adventurine dial could save it. I like the geometry of the case and crystal and how it bends light in a unique way but its really not elegant when all put together. Im trying to find a reason to like the 11.59 but I really can't justify... I want AP to break free from the RO curse but this isn't how to do it. Expand on the millinery like the with references like the 4101 and classic dress pieces.

Had the chance to see 3 of these in the flesh the other day. I have to say I was really underwhelmed. Thought in person these watches would look better but really didn’t. Beautifully made yes, but really a very underwhelming design. There are those design nuances Tim mentions but face on it reminds me of a Emporia Armani watch.

Far too much going on in this watch, like they literally ticked every option on the build sheet!

does anyone else get the sense that the octagonal case shape in the centre layer is a slightly desperate attempt to carry over some brand cache from the royal oak? I mean if you want to break out of the one-trick-pony reputation... why bring the pony along to the next show
@davidc51914 жыл бұрын
If so, then the effect is extremely subtle since you don't see the shape of the case side looking at the watch either from the front or the back of the case, which just look round. I actually like the effect as the faceting gives it an added interesting visual dimension than if it was simply a round case side connecting the bezel to the case back.

this and the openworked are the only 11.59 that i like the look of. the tourbilliom/chronograph/date all have such an cheap, flat and ugly looking dial imo, even with the new gradient models.

I checked their website. They really only have those ugly 70-ties design watches and this on offer. Lame.
