Hello! Writer of the linked article here. I'm not sure this is actually a DTM Prototype. The wing, bodykit and choice of engine make it nearly identical to the French Supertourisme Audi 80 quattros. My guess is they just dressed it up with the Audi Sport livery later on as a tribute. Turbocharging was banned in the Class 1 DTM years, so that engine would make little sense.

@@chriss.9827 The one in the video doesn't look like the prototype. That's my point. It has the wrong bodywork and the wrong engine.

I agree with Dylan. It doesn't smell class 1 at all. *EDIT* Just saw another video confirming that it is indeed one of the two prototypes Audi made but it was not mentioned why this example has a turbo engine. Maybe at some point during the creation process of the class 1 rulebook turbo engines were considered to be allowed. I don't know.

@@armorgeddon Turbos were never on the table for Class 1. The one and only 80 DTM prototype (which is in a museum) has a 2.5L V6 like the rest of the later Class 1 cars. The car in this video is a French Supertourisme racer dressed up in the prototype's livery.

You may well be right regarding turbos never be considered for Class 1. French supertourisme though also had no turbos and the aero package also doesn't look like to conform with class 2. The rear wing is too extreme even for Class 1 as we know it. Anyway, in the other video I saw Rainer Braun himself, German DTM commentary legend, confirmed that this car was a legit Audi prototype, one of two in existence and everybody was wondering how the owner could get it. However they did not really discuss the engine topic. My best guess regarding the turbo engine would be that Audi considered moving the project from targeting Class 1 after the fallout with ITR/DMSB to something like the GT cup that was announced for 1993 in Germany or for the IMSA GT Championship in North America and therefor tried a turbo engine in that chassis.

De l'essence dans mes veines you can clearly hear the the turbo at 2:02. I know the original car in the Audi museum has a v6, but not this car. The track speaker even said that it had a 4 cyl. Turbo engine.
