To be fair, it's hard to find really bad cars on sale right now. For daily driving, most cars are actually good enough to drive. Yeah, maybe one car has a not so good interior or exterior, maybe the backseat is a bit too tight for bigger people, the boot may not be bigger than competition, etc but those things are just nitpicks for the most part. It'll all comes down to each person's preference and honestly basic economics.

a couple things to note. 1 - The flip out cupholders are optional, and the standard ones are much better at being a cup holder. 2 - Only the Audi Press and Dealer Market Introduction cars have Progressive Steering. None of the normal UK Spec cars have progressive steering other than the S3 and upcoming RS3. Shame as the Progressive steering is a bit better for 'dynamic' driving ;) 3 - 1.0 TFSI (30 TFSI) is now available with an Auto/ STronic and a MHEV system.

Having seen a few of these on the road recently, the grey plastic vents on the back and diffuser makes it look really cheap. Like cheaper cars that don't have the metal work going all the way to the bottom. In black or grey, they blend in but with other colours they stand out in a bad way. Previous A3 looked a lot posher from the back.

If you like running modifications on your car, like stage 3 turbo kits, full exhausts, ecu, suspension etc, go for the golf, if you like adding little subtle things like a lip spoiler or blacking out badges, go for the audi. If you like just driving a car as it is and maybe adding a few vinyl stripes go for the a class. If you just want a car that works, is practical and don't want to do any modifications, go bmw.

None sense. Driving a VW Golf 8 R-line for 3 weeks now after a 5 years driving a Golf 7 Highline. It’s feels bigger than the 7, which it isn’t. It’s nicer to drive and the build quality is top notch. Yes there are a few cost cutting measures, but none of any importance. I like the interior more than an A3, the materials don’t seem inferior at all. The digital display is great once you get used to it, better than the old model BMW 1 series which I rented in Majorca.

@@ilian903 Couldn’t disagree more. The build quality is very good indeed, maybe not quite upto BMW 1 series, but that’s more expensive here. Haven’t seen the new A3 so can’t comment, apart from the pictures I’ve seen I much prefer the golf inside.

@@johnhoward6461 I mean you are an actual golf 8 owner so I can’t discuss that. I have the old f21 bmw 120i as a second car and it’s very decent in terms of build quality, I can deny though that interior design wise is dated but still prefer it over the new 1 series.

It’s a shame to see so many VW products taking a nosedive in interior material quality. I’m definitely in the minority, but if I am buying a luxury car, I want something that feels and looks well put together and thought out, and at least gives off the impression of premium quality through the use of soft materials, real wood trim or metal trim pieces and such. Modern cars in general are so loaded with gizmos and massive onboard screens that manufacturers are having to cut corners in interior materials.

Currently driving a new A3 35 TDI S-Line whilst my 2020 A4 Avant 35 TDI Technik is in for a service. Some nice features on the S-Line spec but it is a big step down in refinement and comfort from my A4. Noticeably more wind and road noise and slightly down on power and torque. I also prefer the interior on my A4, as it looks more grown up and classy. Not a fan of the hard suspension either on the S-Line. Nice car but looking forward to getting my A4 back.

The Golf GTI 8 is too ugly to contemplate buying so to buy a quick A3 you need to go all the way up to an S3 - which is too expensive for me. I really like the shape of this car but below the S3 all the engines are seriously lacking in bite. Shame!

I got the 150pk petrol one with s-line for about 2 months now. It's a pretty nice car to have, but one thing that really annoys me is, since it's not the quickest, I like to give quite some gas to get off nicely, but it wheel spins way too easily! I know it's front-wheel drive, but is has such low grip from standstill that it actually annoys me pretty badly Edit: ohh yeah, also the damn high gloss plastic bits around the navigation screen and the center console are getting dirty way too easily. Looks bleh 9/10 times, since I can't be bothered to clean it all the time.

It's a good looking car - probably the best in this class in this trim - and I'd definitely pay the extra £2-3k for it over the golf... But these Germans are going backwards in quality every generation while the likes of KIA and Hyundai are making big strides forward. The 1 series, if it was just a little less odd looking (personally it still looks like it's been half turned into a weird crossover thing), would be the top of the pecking order, with the A3 and A Class trading blows (if you skip those god awful entry trim screens) in 2nd place. After that, I think VAG have shot themselves in the foot with the Octavia being better looking and having a better interior than the Golf - even the new Leon is better looking and more distinctive on the outside. So the Skoda gets 3rd place, with the FR spec Leon just edging the new Golf.

I have got one of these on hire for a week - the 1.5 petrol one. Fuel economy is great, suspension is a bit firm, but seats are supportive and quite comfortable. Feel that the tyre noise is a bif high .and the centre console seems to intrude a bit. Lane assist is a pain - have to remember to indicate or you end up fighting with the car, and you get a warning message. If you are after speed - forget it, but as a small car for driving around to the local shops its fine.
