None of the normal UK Spec cars have progressive steering other than the S3 and upcoming RS3. Shame as the Progressive steering is a bit better for 'dynamic' driving ;) 3 - 1.0 TFSI (30 TFSI) is now available with an Auto/ STronic and a MHEV system.

I’m definitely in the minority, but if I am buying a luxury car, I want something that feels and looks well put together and thought out, and at least gives off the impression of premium quality through the use of soft materials, real wood trim or metal trim pieces and such. Modern cars in general are so loaded with gizmos and massive onboard screens that manufacturers are having to cut corners in interior materials.

The loss of some interior quality is a good trade off for how many new safety features are in this new model stick on the comport and sound pack and auto box then the car is awsome

12:10 "On the old A3 you had to prop up the bonnet"...interesting. I didn't realise. I have the even older "8P" model (2008) and it has a gas strut bonnet. Didn't know Audi switched to prop bonnet for the 8V models.

Currently driving a new A3 35 TDI S-Line whilst my 2020 A4 Avant 35 TDI Technik is in for a service. Some nice features on the S-Line spec but it is a big step down in refinement and comfort from my A4. Noticeably more wind and road noise and slightly down on power and torque. I also prefer the interior on my A4, as it looks more grown up and classy. Not a fan of the hard suspension either on the S-Line. Nice car but looking forward to getting my A4 back.

One little detail. Our old A3 2012 has this hydraulic rod (for bonnet) too :D and it's original from factory.

They have, just a lot of cost cutting everywhere. Only their cheaper brands are worth buying now (mostly Seat) because there you'll still find some value for your money. Otherwise skip them.

Nice car! I wish there was one with a Golf GTI engine. Would like to get one to replace my current Golf GTI 7.5. The Golf GTI 8 is too ugly to contemplate buying so to buy a quick A3 you need to go all the way up to an S3 - which is too expensive for me. I really like the shape of this car but below the S3 all the engines are seriously lacking in bite. Shame!

I got the 150pk petrol one with s-line for about 2 months now. It's a pretty nice car to have, but one thing that really annoys me is, since it's not the quickest, I like to give quite some gas to get off nicely, but it wheel spins way too easily! I know it's front-wheel drive, but is has such low grip from standstill that it actually annoys me pretty badly Edit: ohh yeah, also the damn high gloss plastic bits around the navigation screen and the center console are getting dirty way too easily. Looks bleh 9/10 times, since I can't be bothered to clean it all the time.

It's a good looking car - probably the best in this class in this trim - and I'd definitely pay the extra £2-3k for it over the golf... But these Germans are going backwards in quality every generation while the likes of KIA and Hyundai are making big strides forward. The 1 series, if it was just a little less odd looking (personally it still looks like it's been half turned into a weird crossover thing), would be the top of the pecking order, with the A3 and A Class trading blows (if you skip those god awful entry trim screens) in 2nd place. After that, I think VAG have shot themselves in the foot with the Octavia being better looking and having a better interior than the Golf - even the new Leon is better looking and more distinctive on the outside. So the Skoda gets 3rd place, with the FR spec Leon just edging the new Golf.

I have got one of these on hire for a week - the 1.5 petrol one. Fuel economy is great, suspension is a bit firm, but seats are supportive and quite comfortable. Feel that the tyre noise is a bif high .and the centre console seems to intrude a bit. Lane assist is a pain - have to remember to indicate or you end up fighting with the car, and you get a warning message. If you are after speed - forget it, but as a small car for driving around to the local shops its fine.

Not only Audi with the dodgy wheel covering dials, BMW did this years ago. Put me off before I even started it, but had a test drive just to be polite. Bad RHD conversions also put me off. VW ID3 doesn't even have RHD wipers.
