Audi A7 APR Stage 2 1/4 mile

Completely disappointing first day at the strip with my APR Stage 2 3.0T. It was pretty warm, I had all season tires on and did not really launch the car but these times suck a lot. I expected mid to high 12's, which will probably happen on a 65 degree day using LC. This tune derates like crazy in the heat. Intercooling is the problem with this setup and needs to be upgraded. garbage.

Drag times are all about the launch. No point trying if you aren't going to launch it.

The zf 8 speed is bulletproof, turn off traction control, power brake it and that’s it. That is launch control in this car, it rifles head banging shifts as fast as a dual clutch.

@@silver6gen1 no not as fast as a dual clutch. Have you driven a performance car with a dual clutch back to back with a zf8? You will notice it immediately, and you still notice it even with something like xhp or another tuned zf8, or even something like an f90 M5’s zf8. They are obviously slower than a dual clutch, but it’s not a huge difference.

@@PapiAndrey OK fine it's not as fast as a dual clutch but it't pretty darn close. I use to race porsches and am very familiar with the vilence and virocity of the shifts that a DSG in a 991 GT3 RS can rip off.

Personally, I would be super happy with a quarter mile time less than 14 seconds. That is already very fast, but a low 13 is even more impressive.

With his setup he's pretty pushing close to 500 hp. He should be mid 12's.

Do you have just the Stage II or the Stage II Plus Ultra?

Did you get the coolant performance upgrade? My understanding is that makes a difference. Also, unless you got the transmission "flash" you're depending on factory shift settings, which are less than optimal even in sport mode. Why aren't you manually shifting with the paddles?

So this is a St2 audi. I am surprised on how Car and Driver gets these times for "stock" A7 3.0T. They must be testing tuned cars.

Genadiy Ivken Car and Driver doesn't test tuned cars, they just make the conditions as best as they possibly can. This includes a professional driver, several runs and taking the best time, doing so with a tank of gas that is quite low (less weight), etc.

Avalanche2 any track will let you run with a helmet as long as you don’t go below 13 seconds. I think 12.99 is the cut off. Slow cars don’t need helmets lol

The issue is, you are not launching, I have the stage 2 plus with a ultra charger, running 91 oct (Audi A6 3.0t) I got to 8.9 secs) launch control used

There is no launch control on the A7. 2nd pass I launched by holding the brake and revving. There is absolutely no way you got below 9 seconds in A6, I'm sorry.

Applegamer 192 there is a 0% chance you’re in the 8’s in an A6 with just that shit you listed. A stage 2 RS7 with extras barely even gets to the 9’s. I have an A6 as well and I love it, but come on.

@@HerbieSchwartz My 2010 A3 has launch control. Put into Sport or Manual and turn ESP or traction control off. Hold brake and rev. Depending on tune should rev to 3300-4k rpm

Same here. A6 3.0 stage 1 APR no other mods and I ran 12.56 at 108. Even after some heat soak I only dropped to 12.7 and part of that was my launch.

Ash Murshed I think you're asking about the progression of the tune.... you can go stock to stage 2 straight away. stage 2 actually includes stage 1 software but involves the addition of hardware in the form of a smaller pulley for the supercharger.

Ash Murshed I advocate for going directly to stage 2. stage 1 is a big increase in everything and stage 2 doesn't look like much on paper but the torque increase is down low and you will feel it big time.

Raymundo Gaeta technically it isn't launch control, but with ESC off, Dynamic, hold brake and accelerator to floor it should get the rpm up to about 3K and stabilize. release brake. this supposedly enables AMAX shifting as well and raises redline.

Yeah thats the problem. Stock, the car is setup to disable the throttle when the brake is depressed. APR unlocks 'left foot braking' and allows the two to be used together, which is actually more of an autocross feature than it is a launch control feature.

Steve what time would it do 0-100 with the APR tune and the pulley upgrade? Are you happy with the stage 2 upgrade?

I don't know about 0-100 but 0-60 should be around 4.5. I'm happy with it, it makes a ton of power as long as its below about 75 degrees outside. Any warmer than that and the intake charge gets too hot and causes pre-ignition and the ECU pulls the timing back to protect the engine which results in a loss of power at high rpm's. The problem is the stock intercooler system is overwhelmed by the added boost/compression/resulting temp increase. Rumor has it that APR has a crank pulley and intercooler upgrade package coming out. This would be the way to go.

Steve Tratt I don't know what that number is but it should be around 4.5 seconds. I'm happy with it for sure. it's completely daily driveable, the only issue is the added boost overwhelms the stock intercooling system on warm days. other than that it is fantastic.
