Also! I had a heck of a time trying to take off the 13mm motor mount nut on top and ended up taking the whole motor mount braket that mounts to the block off in one piece. I just removed the 3 8mm Allen Head bolts with a slight wobbly or universal joint and an extension.

Thanks! Been putting this off for about a year now. I occasionally search for a diy on it to see what's involved but there's not much out there. Will definitely be using this and your tips. Thanks for taking the time to make this.

I watched your video and successfully replaced the air-conditioning pump. thank you for your sharing.

Very serendipitous. It’s exactly the job I am working time now. The compressor needs to come out because of a broken pigtail on the compressor control valve solenoid. Argh. But thank you.

I'm used to cars having it mounted normally then I went looking for the compressor I'm like; "Where the F@#$ is it!" lol ;). Just finished doing the intake gaskets and oil check valves onto the AC.

Did you lift the engine up at all and remove that motor mount or is it possible to just slide a new one in there? Previous owner ripped out every component of the A/C system and I've been on the fence of re-installing everything. Only thing that's holding me up would be lifting the motor up and taking the mount out. Hoping it's feasible to just slide the new one in
@beaulamper35582 жыл бұрын
You don't lift the engine up, rather you just support it where it's at with an engine bay support beam. I got mine from Harbor Freight.
@seanclark91572 жыл бұрын
@@beaulamper3558 gotcha, I was trying to avoid using a support or anything like that but if it’s absolutely necessary to slide the new compressor in then I guess I’m going to harbor freight 😂

Question did you remove the inner fender well?
@beaulamper3558 Жыл бұрын
No, I did not remove the inner fender well.

Do Not remove the hub via Allen bolts. Disconnect the shaft by holding the acc gear shaft in place with a wrench and loosening the hub with a wrench on the compressor side. Do Not rotate the shaft. Always grease the shaft splines with high end lithium grease for splines 0:26 . The shaft simply pulls out. The compressor is removed without removing the water pump - rotating the compressor left and right while pulling for clearance. You Must remove coolant tank and dip-stick tube. Pull the orifice tube/restrictor and inspect for debris, If it’s completed coated replace rec/dryer and condenser after flushing all lines and evap. If no debris , the new compressor comes prefilled so do the math for oil balance when replacing just the compressor. The steps mentioned here are not “tricks”, they are the official Audi procedure.

Do you know if the shaft can be pulled out without removing the compressor? Just to more or less bypass the ac until I can get around to replacing it? The compressor is whining and I want to drive the car some before I replace the compressor.
@9line53 ай бұрын
@@TheRockstarJay You can. Loosen the shaft from the compressor. Important! Turn the 19mm nut on the compressor while keeping the 17 mm (shaft) stationary - do NOT turn the shaft to loosen. Rotate the compressor head to loosen it from the shaft. Then push the shaft forward into the acc gear. Remove the head on the compressor side (allen bolts). that should give you enough room to remove the shaft. If you are going to drive without the shaft - squirt some lithium grease in the hole and plug it with rubber or silicon plug..

@@9line5 thank you! I’ve been searching all over for an answer online to no avail haha! I got the car and drove it for a week and the compressor started whining. I just want to enjoy it while the weather is nice until I decide to tackle it.

thank you sir, any tips on how you refilled the ac system , was it as easy as using ac pro ? did you have to add compressor oil?
@beaulamper35584 жыл бұрын
I refilled it with a set of manifold gauges and bled air out properly so I didn't introduce air into the system like an ac pro quick charge. Yes, you'll want to add the correct amount of oil in the a/c system at the same time.
@dondbg37513 жыл бұрын
I have done the same, removed the Allen bolts and pulled the compressor out, then when I started the car I see compressor oil (green) a little bit splashing /coming out from around the backplate, so I figured i have done it wrong and I should have removed the compressor with the shaft until i landed on this video, my questions are: did you end up with a little green juice and my second question which I hope you can remember when I start the car visually the shaft looks like not centred, is that possible to happen, I didn't righten it in a star pattern, that could be the cause, how did you centre it ?
@beaulamper35583 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, the shift is centered. It sounds like you completely removed the shift from the engine/timing chain gear (near the firewall). I wonder if you issue relies on re-centering and inserting the shaft properly?

I noticed motor mount and bracket removed to get to pto shaft?
@beaulamper3558 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to remove the drivers side motor mount and bracket. You have to suspended the engine with a support bar to do this.

how you concluded the compressor needed to be replaced?, did you do a leak test first with some UV dye?

@@beaulamper3558 ok cool, thanks for the prompt reply, I have the same car for 3 years now, mine is a B6 convertible though. If you need any tips, I'm glad to help. The AC is failing on mine too now and I'm getting as much as info possible before I DIY this system, it's my first time for AC, but I had to deal with chain tensioners, control arms, shocks, transmission, exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, cooling system leaks, low power steering and the list goes on and on. Love the car!, but it's been a high learning curve with this machine.
