Audi E Tron 50 Technik honest review - Should you buy one?

Bit overdue, but here is a quick look at the entry level Audi E Tron pure electric SUV. Make sure you get your home charger sorted, charging from a standard plug takes days (yes, days!!) Not gone into too much depth on spec (you will probably have looked at this already). Should you get the base model, or spend even more? This is an honest review (I'm not here to sell them!)

UPDATE - having now done 17,000 miles in it, I can give an update on this car. For info, the vehicle is very comfortable, and handles a lot better than its size would lead you to believe. Also range - heavily influenced on the type of driving. I do a lot of motorway driving, and struggle to get 150 miles from a charge, but if I do back road driving where higher speed does not factor I can get 180 - 190 miles (weather dependent).

For short distances, either pre-air conditioning or use the range mode, then consumption is lower. The e-tron needs a lot on short trips due to the good battery heating. This basic equipment is relatively well equipped. This corresponds to an advance line that costs a lot of range but because of the large tires with the 19 "tires, the range is better. I thought the e-tron 50 was decent, but it didn't convince me because it demands too many compromises. The e -tron 55 is the better alternative if you like this class.

I think I'll be keeping an eye out for one of the ex demonstrator models in 2-3 years time. They should be in the mid 20k price range by then. They were the 55 in the Galaxy blue metallic or grey, with the cream leather ventilated seats, four zone climate, B&O sound system and few other bits and bobs. I've been fortunate enough to sit in a 50 sport model and loved the quiet refined and comfortable ride.

Hi, may be a good buy 2nd hand in a couple of years. Not been in a 55, but the range is better. However, a friend has the top spec (but still a 50) and I would recommend going for a higher model if it is the Audi you choose to buy. Cheers

Should have got the 55 Launch Edition used, just got one myself with 30k miles approx, £0 deposit, under £500 per month, 220 miles in summer, has every option from factory as well.

Hi can this be charged from standard home electricity and how long would charge take?

Hi, do you mean from a normal 3 pin plug? The charger it comes with is 1.3KW, so takes a very long time! It works out about 3miles per hour of charge. A normal home charger is around 7KW, and will take from 20% to 100% in around 8hrs. My current Volvo comes with a 2.4KW 3 pin plug charger. Cheers

Hi, I don't fully agree with that statement, having had plenty of German motors (as well as French / Jap / Italian / Swedish). However, I cannot deny this one has seen the garage more times than I would like!
