First gen Q3s are from 2015 to 2018. The bolts that hold the battery are 10mm but the bolt that holds the grommet is 9/16 not 10mm. For 2016 and up you will also need a star bit set to remove the battery housing. The bolt hold down is difficult to get to and has been repositioned inside the housing of the battery not outside like this model.

Hey There if you look at wiki they say 2015-2018 (North America) and production was 2011-2018. The one that I was working on was a 2015 so I'm thinking that had to be when the 1st gen started in North America.
@SirMalikCobra9 ай бұрын
@@GarageKingYeah I see there was an earlier production. I corrected my comment. 😊 I was working on two of these and they were quite different in how Audi tried to contour the housing so the hold down bolt is not as accessible.

what is the size for the hold down bolt?
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey there, I think the head size was 13mm, I can't remember what the pitch and width was.
@Mike-dt1yg9 ай бұрын
@@GarageKing that's correct, I used your video yesterday and it is a 13mm socket. The two clamps going into the battery terminals are 10mm.

What scanning tool are you using?

Hi There, I used an older Launch CRP429 to do this job, but have since upgraded to a newer Launch scanner. I actually did a review on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJC7qnilhNKWpcU

Hey there sorry for the late reply. I’m out camping. I just bought an aftermarket battery. I think it was an energizer.

is it necessary to do the relearn process?
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey There, I think you have to or the centre indicator may say "replace battery soon" like the oil service light.
@gtr161 Жыл бұрын
@@GarageKing My Audi is a 2013 Q3, so far there hasn't been any notice to 'replace battery soon', but I know its on the way out. If I dont have the warning, do I need to go through the relearn process?
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey that for the comment @gtr161 and you know I never really thought about it. To be honest I really don't know and I don't want to give you the wrong information. Personally I would think that when the battery is replace the relearn process should be done, but if you don't have a scanner then I would say just change the battery and see what happens. Worst case you are just going to get a message for the relearn.

@GarageKing6 ай бұрын
Yes, your 2012 is a first gen just like the 2015, Second gen did not appear until 2018. You can just search Audi Q3 on wikipedia if you wish. Thanks

This is why dealers charge $800 just to reprogram a damn battery.
@GarageKing10 ай бұрын
$800 is crazy, even if they were charging $200 per hour, it should not be more than 1hr labour, and then add the cost of the battery.

@@GarageKingseems these are sold out. Are there any other low cost scanner options that will help program the battery for this Audi? 🙏🏼
@GarageKing22 күн бұрын
@@fernandez7964 That one is no longer available as it's obsolete. This one should do and its very affordable. I did a review on the GM one, make sure when you purchase you get the Audi one. Also if you use code gk you get an additional 15% off so the scanner should only be around 100 bucks. bit.ly/3zMcEh4
