I've just came back from holidays to Italy where we got such Audi Q5 for over 3 weeks. We did more than 5K kms --- highways, backroads, small country roads and (sic!) small towns. This car was awesome. Lovely to drive and even with 5174 km done, we did not have enough of it. Very comfortable and easy to drive. I really liked that. GPS was great, however "learning about my driving habits" (forcing it sometimes to secondary road) caused that I was getting random (side roads) usually every morning through very narrow streets (which wasn't ideal). I learned later to avoid suggestions for the 1st 30 min and then it was fine - stuck to the main roads. Dynamic system was great for the mountains and highway, Comfort mode was fantastic for cities. Absolutely loved it. We had a lot of luggage and (only now I noticed that) I did not think to move the back seats... That would help a lot with that extra few cms. I was surprised it did not heave rear view camera (or I did not find it), but parking sensors were very good. Anti-collision alert was triggered few times when random car appeared in front - this worked quite well. I loved the speed control which was adjusting the speed accordingly to the car in front of me and if the road was clear, it came back to the programmed speed. What I was missing there: some space for sunglasses, keyless door opening, parking cameras and sunroof would have been nice, haha. Would I buy this car after 3 weeks driving? Hell yeah! (I just can't afford it, hahaha). I loved the car and I think it was great choice.

bought a q5 5 years ago because of this review. Got sandwiched couple weeks ago. The damage wasn't all that noticeable, but insurance company deemed the car totaled. god i loved this car. The settlement isn't enough to replace this vehicle, wondering if i should just pay out of pocket and get another q5.

Actually the lid in the trunk is very good for not having the luggages etc. rolling out if on downhill. With flat edge, this is worse or a risk, and actually the little hump helps to lift stuff out of the trunk. However, great review - thanks!

Most models look and feel bland, there isn't much character if at all, they are cars for people who don't like driving. They are comfortable but often soulless. I think what Jeremy Clarkson said two decades ago about Audis still holds true, Audis say nothing about you other than having money, unlike other luxury brands.

FireBird- for me, audi is the luxury car for young persons and it's ideal for the sporty type of person who like winter sports. That's what i think when i see an audi. I think it has a good image.

Yeah, the "sporty person" that prefers winter sports normally doesn't care about fun on 4 wheels. Usually the only image Audi reflects is your wallet's. Many luxury brands at least try to make their executive saloons and even SUVs and crossovers fun and sporty, not only quiet and comfortable. Audis are merely modest and sensible, not adventurous.

Have you ever driven a Lexus RX and an Audi Q5? The Lexus RX is very comfortable and luxurious, however, it is a total bore to drive. I feel like I am driving to my own funeral... that's how boring it is. They have no character, no soul, and ZERO feel. You are completely disconnected from the road and you have no feel through the steering whatsoever. If that's what you like and prefer in a car, then by all means buy the Lexus RX. I feel that people who drive a Lexus RX have no soul to be able to put up with it daily. The Audi Q5, on the other hand, felt much better to drive when compared to the Lexus. At least to me!

I don't get why Matt keeps getting 'disappointed' with cars' actual fuel consumption compared with the official numbers. These are NEDC numbers. Real world efficiency is rather consistently about 60-70% of NEDC for all engine types (and also for electric vehicle range). You'd think a veteran car journalist would get that at some point. The problem is not in the cars but in the archaic NEDC standard which badly needs replacing.

I have a 2018 2.0 TDI S-Line. Great car but has one major fault - stand at the rear of the car and you will see that the right hand side is approx 10 mm lower than the left side. My car is not the only one with this problem - all Q5's seem to have it. I have complained to Audi hoping that the problem will be escalated to Germany - but so far I have had no feedback.

I see many comments talking about the F Pace. However in my country you can buy a fully loaded Q5 for around 46,000 USD, but you need to spend almost 67,000 USD for a F Pace. So there is no comparison. If I'm going to spend that amount of money, I'd buy a Porsche Macan GTS.

Honestly the interior is so dated without the virtual cockpit which is included in a package with GPS for fucking 2400£ for almost nothing, but why would i buy the Q5 when the XC60 is coming soon with most of the options on the Q5 coming as standard and it look billion times better outside and especially from the inside.

My only complaint about my Q5 is related to Dieselgate - they didn't particularly advertise the fact that you HAVE to keep the tank topped up with ADBlue in order to drive - not a huge deal in the grand scheme, however, since Dieselgate their "fix" appears to be "make the Q5 drink lots more ADBlue" to fix the emissions. It's annoying, but, the car itself is a lovely, comfortable drive.

The previous Q5 design was by far more appealing when it was first launched. This year's model, while loaded with a ton a gadgets, just doesn't excite that much. The straight lines makes it look like it's VW brother. I think I'll take the Jaguar SVR F-Pace instead

I'm a massive Audi fan but they have started taking the piss for the amount of options that you have to pay extra for recently. Just a note Audi... The Q5 is quite interesting, in that it is not a full size SUV in the way that the Q7, Cayenne, Toureg, XC90, X5, Disco etc are but it is more substantial than Tiguans etc are. It is a genuine premium vehicle and has few competitors. The XC60 is one and perhaps the X3 is another. The Disco sport is a bit too niche. Most similar size SUVs are not considered premium. Residuals are good and they are quite slick:- Definitely a Yummy Mummy car and who wouldn't want both!
