Audi Q6 E-Tron vs Porsche Macan | I just drove both, and these are my thoughts....

Great video and I've been debating between the Audi SQ6 and the Macan all week and I've actually opted to go for the Audi. I currently daily a Porsche Taycan 4S since 2021 and will be changing to the Audi in May. A lot of what you say makes sense but one thing that also needs to be considered is the finance. So for example, I had a quote here in the UK for a Macan 4S which I speed to about £85k. The finance was over £10k down and £1250 a month. The Audi SQ6 is £94k, so nearly £10k more than the Porsche but the finance was far better with only £5k down and £1150 a month. The Audi spec is also far better than the Macan and is pretty much fully loaded. So for me I just felt the Audi offered a lot better value for money. It's also got a far more impressive interior in some ways than the Macan. I agree the Macan feels more premium in terms of materials etc but in terms of technology, the Audi wins hands down. Just thought I would share my personal experience. Unfortunately, Porsche are just not competitive at the moment in terms of price and finance.

I test drove Pole 3 and the Audi Q6. Polestar is way more quiet and luxerious on nordic roads.

The Macan has the option of acoustic glass which should help greatly with road noise. In the US specing a Macan to a similar Q6 you'll be $10-$15k less with the Audi.

I would rather have a more effective EV - sedan/liftback/sportback, so I'm waiting for A6 e-tron reviews. It's the same modern PPE platform, but cheaper and with the right tires with foam hopefully also more silent. Looking forward to A6 e-tron vs. ID.7 comparison.

I was actually undecided between these two models three months ago, but then went for the Q6. And for one very important reason, that you don't mention in your thoughts: range. Maybe it's not as important for you or most of your viewers, but when it comes to business or holiday long distance drives, I still want to charge not only as quickly as possible but also with the least amount of stops. And as wheel size has a direct impact on range and only the Q6 had a rear wheel drive only version up until a few weeks back, that would be the way to go, to squeeze out a few km more. Nonetheless, very interesting comparison and thanks for sharing. :)

It really depends on the use case. If you have to drive every day mix distances I would take the Audi. If its also for fun and its you main car also for the weekend and you have the budget, you might want to keep it longer - I would take the Porsche. In terms of pricing - that will the Leaseplans show.. Good quote - either closer to a Volkswagen (Audi) or closer to a Bentley (Macan)

Hey Kris thanks for the video. I like the exterior look of the Q6 better than the Macan. Do you know if the Q6 car(s) you tested did have the extra acoustic windows installed (supposed to decrease exterior noise). Do you know how the audio quality is on the standard stereo in the car? The B&O stero makes the car 100K NOK more expensive, find it hard to believe it is worth it. Tested the Q6 last weekend and several things annoys me (currently driving a Mercedes EQC); 1. the noise is dissapointing yes, my 3 year old EQC is dead silent compared to it. 2. the car switches off every time you leave the car, even if just for a few seconds, this is almost a deal-breaker particularly since you then have to manually disable all the annoying things such as overspeed alerts etc. Now these alert will likely be on all future cars, BUT at least my EQC does not swith off imdediately you exit the car for a few seconds, like the Q6, or the BMW ix, 3.the sensors outside the car is way too sensitive, (even worse than my EQC!! which I believed not to be possible) if you drive offroad the car auto-brakes almost constantly. Very hard to disable this, almost impossible. Which makes me think what is the point with an off-road mode on this car? 4. The reverse camera; OMG this is almost useless compared to Mercedes, living in Norway where we have rain and snow, the reverse camera is useless 9 of 10 days, does not help to spray it (at least did not on the Q6 I tested), same for Porsche. Really dissapointing to pay almost 1Mill NOK for a car where the reverser camera is not workig in real life. Agree that the Q6 feels less premium wrt to eh interior compoents compared to the old etron/Q88. Still, I like the Q6 and considering it.

My wife loves having XM radio displaying on the passenger display while I like Waze on the main display. Without NACS, V2L, 110V outlet these cars are out for me.

If you spec the q6 with the options it really needs (seats, some exterior upgrades, adaptive cc..) you are on par with the price of the macan which already includes all necessary options in base model. However lease prices are very different due to maintenance costs of porsche i guess?

On these 2 I’d go for the Q6, but I won’t. A very nicely equipped Q6 is €95k. A macan 4 with the basic options is €110k. The problem is the options on the Porsche are that much more expensive. Since I drive a lot I do want the matrix LED’s, self driving functionalities, good seats, good radio… I did end up with an i5. If I had to order on the current market I would end up with an A6 avant etron. 100km more on a charge and drives better. Fully equipped it is €104k. But on the Audi’s you’ll soon enough manage to get a 10k discount. On the Porsche I really doubt that.

Kris! What do you think about future values of the Audi and the e-Macan going forward? I believe they’re going to follow Taycan’s suit and depreciate heavily. More than we’re used to.

Not sure. But at least in Norway Taycans depreciated because they sold so many of them. So Macan should hold its price better, I would think.

I have gone through all of your Q6 e-tron videos. They are very good. But I have been looking for some more detailed commentary on the ADAS compared to the older OG or Q8 e-tron. Are there any differences or is the Audi ADAS unchanged? Thank you!

I’m not a fan of vehicles that look like they glued an iPad to the dashboard. It does allow a bigger screen. The A6 screen is better than Tesla, but the Macan looks like they spent the money to integrate it.

It's disappointing that the Q6 efficiency is not much better than a Q4 despite the new 800v PPE platform and it has less rear passenger room than the Q4. If you are going to spend that much more on a Q6 than a Q4 might as well go for a Macan instead.

It’s interesting to me that this and the macan are similar for road noise because on the launch press drives basically everyone said the macan is ‘silent’. Noise and NVH is the biggest thing for me because I do a lot of highway driving so this is a disaster to me. Makes me want neither the macan or q6 but these are the two I’ve literally been waiting on to make a purchase

@@bneyarb5037 as I said in the video, it depends on where you drive. The launch of the Q6 was in northern Spain and Macan in Nice. Both places have asphalt which is much quieter than in Norway, Sweden or Finland. So on our roads these are both noisy, but on the continent they’re gonna be quiet.

That's disappointing... I was really hoping this (Q6 E-TRON) was my wifes next car. We are so used to my SQ8 E-TRON and how quiet it is. I figured this being the next generation architecture they would have advanced the quiet/comfort of this car. In the US the Porsche cars are quite a bit more expensive. We can get a slightly used E-TRON GT for 60K. That might be the better path... ??

Q6 not that quiet? Seen in several reviews that it is exceptionally refined and quiet. Bjorn Nyland also did noise test, it is in top 5 on summer tyres.

@@Astke it has a lot of tires noise. Go watch my Q6 vs Entaq video. You can clearly hear that is it noisier than the Enyaq. So not even close to Q8 E-torn er even EQE or EQC

@@KrisRifamaybe perform measurements next time? Simple dB measurements on always the same road at the same speed with approximately the same weather and you’ll have a fair comparison.

@@bartbarelds8454 db meter like the Bjørn uses gives a very inaccurate ready of the actual experienced noise levels. I tried doing such tests in the past, and they proved to be very unreliable. For such a test to have any value at all you’d have to do a spectro analysis, and that requires a laptop, an analysis microphone and software. The software alone is very expensive. Maybe I’ll do it in the future.

@@KrisRifa i’m a laboratory technician, its not hard nor expensive, a phone can do the job perfectly with or without a calibrated microphone . There are a few very good apps for these kind of measurements. You can use real time measurements or even a reading for a certain amount of time for the complete audio bandwidth 20-20khz. For my audio hobby where i build very good DIY speakers i use the app audiotools for in room audio measurements. Besides that, i know some frequencies will sound harder on the same dB level but i actually experienced the opposite where measurements proved what i believed i heard every time.

@@bartbarelds8454 not sure what type of laboratory technician you are, but I doubt it is for noise. No offense. I tried using a phone with different apps and they were wildly unreliable, and massively different values for the same car on the same road. I've also tried dB meters that give a live read-out, the problem with those is the real time part and the fact that dB levels at different frequencies vary wildly. Getting an average requires some very good hardware, and as I said to have any value a spectro analysis is what is needed. But I am open to any hardware and software that might work. I've tried what you suggest here, but found it wasn't good enough.

The Q6 is based on a different platform than the Q4. The Q6 was developed with Porsche while the Q4 was developed together with VW. So the cars are quite different.
