Audi S4 (C4) GTO Chirping Like a Bird! - 2.2L 5-Cylinder Turbo Engine Melody

This Audi S4 GTO could be considered as the Audi 90 IMSA GTO twin. Why? Because it's actually a 90 GTO with a different body na chassis. Let me explain..
After the 1989 IMSA championship Audi retired from the American competition and they shipped two of their Audi 200 Quattro TransAm to South Africa in order to race in the Wesbanks Modified championship where old GTO & TransAm car could be raced. By 1991 the 200 TransAm were not as fast as the previous years so Audi South Africa considered that the Audi 90 IMSA GTO would have been the perfect replacement.
Problem is the 90 model wasn't sold in SA thus the race car was not allowed to compete as per the rules. So they decided to build a brand new race car: based on the C4 Audi S4 plaform, the new racer was built under the approval of Audi itself which helped in the chassis construction. Furthermore they sent in SA one of the few Audi 90 left in order to be studied and copied. Most of the S4 GTO mechanical parts are exactly the same as the 90 GTO, plus very similar aerodynamics and engine (which is a 2.2-litre turbocharged 5-cylinder engine with around 700hp at 7500 rpm and 720 Nm of torque).

you don't say? bear in mind that not all 5 cylinders sounds as close to a V10 than an Audi one ;) even the RB26DETT doesn't sound as close to a V10. even the 2JZ. Audis I5 are the closest to a V10 sound and that's just beautiful

Well it does make sense because RB's and JZ's are 6 cylinder engines. Their sound is closer to a V12. I actually prefer Audi 5 cylinder engine sounds over most V10's. Probably because of their motorsport heritage.

And for those of you that think it is a Blow-off Valve making that noise...you are sorely wrong! That is acutally the stalling sound of the turbo when the driver would let off the throtte....Not some POS BOV you buy on eBay! Not great for the turbo, as w/o one causes great stress on the turbine shaft...but was fast!

i can make the sound with my voice but that shift sound is a lot harder, i could probably do them separate but together like shown in the video is quite the challenge.i say that like its normal for people to be able to replicate car sounds when 65% percent of US can't even tell you what there driving.

Say No to Autonomous Driving i guess this is a blow off valve or maybe low boost sound from the turbo

The sound is compressor surge, this is what you get without a BOV. The pressure built up by the turbo doesn't have anywhere to release when you close the throttle blade. Alot of people say this beats up the turbine wheel because it is bouncing back and forth and can cause harm on the turbine shaft because of increased side load. So use with caution.
