Just wanted to add that after following the awesome step by video the Daniel made and shared my brake light/brake pads warning didn't go away.. I tried to reset with an Ancel VD500 the brake error code wouldn't register on the device and subsequently I couldn't clear. I took the A8 on a drive and seated the pads with a few hard stops, turned the parking brake on and off, tried to reset the brake/brake pads error again and no dice. I took the car through a car wash and on the other side the light went off and no longer illuminates the dash. Thanks again Daniel for empowering me and 2.8k (and counting) othere.

Thanks Reuben, yes, brakepad warnings wouldn't register fault codes, the circuit doesn't communicate with anything than the dashboard light really. If it returns, I'd unplug all sensors and check for corrosion, not unheard off on those connectors it appears. Enjoy the fresh pads!

Thanks for your Video Daniel. I used it as a reference today to do my front pads and disks. The second pad on each install was the worst part, but through trial and error it work out well. Thanks again

Daniel, Thanks that's a great video, thanks for the all the small details, those are the ones that inspire us to do some of theses DIYs. The reply to MrLilchilly for the A8L is a classic example, wish you all the best. Ill keep you posted how the work goes on my A8L. Ive been looking around for a 9mm Hex

I am not sure about the S8, but my S6 (2013) has a rigid frame which allows me to jack up the rear jack point and the front will lift enough to get a jack stand on the front jack point. PLEASE use jack stands and not just a jack. Had that jack given way while you were under that brake disc, this would have been catastrophic. Please be safe. Otherwise, thank you for a great video.

Thank you for your video, you do a great job. Is there anything special to do to remove the brake pad wear sensors? I cannot get those to detach regardless of what I do.

Glad you enjoyed it! Word of caution though, this guide is only suitable for the 400mm discs, typically only installed on the S8 so make sure which type you have as each are different in quite a few areas.

@@MrLilChilly good luck. You're going to need a 9mm hex key for your brake calipers so make sure you have that available. When the wheel is off you need to remove the tension spring by removing the trim piece (single bolt front face of caliper) then the sensor, then loosen the pads, then remove the rubber plugs on the back of the caliper and then remove both 9mm hex screws. torques for guidelines screws is 55nm and the front cover/spring bolt is 22nm. Also pay attention to pads, the inner and outer back plates are different so check when you remove them which is which. Good luck!

I was told those carbon ceramic discs lasts practically the life of the car and to simply replace the Ceramic pads. Replacing the discs are a bank breaking affair at $4400 per disc (over $16000 total).
@ishmaelsykes9739
@ishmaelsykes9739 Жыл бұрын
So why are they so damn expensive, so what would it cost for a full pad replacement just pads and not rotors for the non-carbon ceramic rotors

Hey Daniel, Happy New Year wish you all the best. Sorry I had a question so I thought I’ll post it here. The caliper bolts I’ve seen 2 types ( Not really sure which is the original bolt) one of the reputed part shops showed me a bolt which has a kind of blue thread locker like compound, another said VW Audi bolts don’t have that only BMW bolts carry that. Wanted to draw on your experience here and ask, is it needed and why do you think one of the manufacturers uses it and the other doesn’t ...the thread locker?? Is it a good idea to use a medium strength thread locker or just the plain bolt. Thanks
@dhansens
@dhansens 3 жыл бұрын
Caliper bolts will often have a threadlocker on them, other times they'll use locking washers but then, like in this application there's plenty where there is no locking mechanism apart from torque. I'd stick to OE. Also consider that a thread locker impacts fastening torque, much like a lubricant would, so don't be tempted to use thread locker and then torque to the recommended dry value as you could put up to 20% more torque on the bolt.
