Sir why we use ultra- sound for nondestructive testing ? Why not infrasonic ?
@ephysics380110 ай бұрын
Ultrasonic sound is commonly used in nondestructive testing because its frequency range (above 20 kHz) allows for better resolution and detection of smaller flaws in materials. Infrasonic waves, with frequencies below 20 Hz, have longer wavelengths and may not provide the necessary precision for detailed inspections. Ultrasonics also offer practical advantages, such as the ability to easily generate and detect high-frequency waves using compact equipment.

The energy of infrasonic is low how they can travel 10km distance? explain the reason frequency is directly proportional to energy
@Fazalaminpw-4 ай бұрын
What is the biological reason?
@ephysics38014 ай бұрын
Infrasonic sound, despite having low energy per unit, can travel long distances due to its low frequency and long wavelength. Here’s why: 1. **Long Wavelength**: Infrasonic waves have very long wavelengths, which allows them to diffract around obstacles and propagate through the atmosphere more effectively than higher-frequency sounds. 2. **Low Attenuation**: Low-frequency sounds attenuate less over distance compared to higher-frequency sounds. This means they lose energy more slowly as they travel, allowing them to cover greater distances. 3. **Atmospheric Conditions**: Infrasonic waves can be carried efficiently by atmospheric conditions such as temperature gradients and wind patterns, which can further extend their range. These factors combined enable infrasonic sounds to travel over long distances, including several kilometers.

Because our ear can't detect a sound having frequency greather than 20kHz and a sound having frequency less than 20Hz, when we hear sound it is Because our ear drum vibrate with that frequency, but when the frequency is greater than 20kHz so our eardrum haven't the ability to vibrate with such high frequency, so we can't hear that sound. Similarly the sound having frequency less than 20Hz, we also doesn't hear that sound Because our eardrum doesn't detect that too much low frequency sound, because of which we can't hear that sound too.

Why we can't hear infrasonic and ultrasounic sounds
@ephysics38014 ай бұрын
Because both sound frequencies are out of range of our audible frequency range,that's why we can't hear these sounds.

In KPK book whales are taken in both as infrasonic and ultrasonic sound Why?
@ephysics3801 Жыл бұрын
Dolphins and whales use ultrasound for communication, and they also use for hunting and navigating in murky and dark water. While the baleen whale can vocalize and hear very low-pitched, or infrasonic sound. it means that whale have the ability to produce and detect both kinds of sound. hope you will got the point.

Why we can not detect range more than 20kHz?
@ephysics3801 Жыл бұрын
as we know that sound is produced due to vibrating body, and every sound has some frequency, so a sound having frequency of 100Hz is detected by our ears because the ear drum inside our ear can vibrate with such a frequency, if we increase the frequency of sound then the ear drum will also vibrate with that frequency and we can hear that sound too. But if the sound frequency becomes greater than 20kHz then our ear drum cannot vibrate with such a greater frequency and hence we are unable to hear that sound having frequency greater than 20kHz. hope u will got the point.

Dear brother... In KP book it's mentioned that Explosion have also infrasonic sound , Although we heard it Then why it is infrasonic But not Audible?
@ephysics3801 Жыл бұрын
Explosions do produce infrasonic waves, which are below the range of human hearing. However, they also create audible sound waves due to secondary effects such as the rapid expansion of gases, which we can hear.
@irfanullah-ig3wm Жыл бұрын
@@ephysics3801 If I say that There is also Some sound which is infrasonic but still We heard it.. That's because of loudness,, Loudness and frequency are independent So in explosion we have also Some sounds are Infrasonic but still we heard it b/c of loudness
@irfanullah-ig3wm Жыл бұрын
Sir if u are reading my comment then reply ?
@ephysics3801 Жыл бұрын
@@irfanullah-ig3wm I see, it seems there might be a slight misunderstanding in terminology. Infrasound refers to sound waves with frequencies below the lower limit of human audibility, typically below 20 Hz. The term "loudness" in acoustics is generally associated with the amplitude or intensity of a sound, often measured in decibels (dB).
@ephysics3801 Жыл бұрын
@@irfanullah-ig3wm If an explosion produces infrasound, you might not "hear" it in the conventional sense because the frequencies are below the threshold of human hearing. However, the explosion can still be detected or felt through other means, such as vibrations. So, while the infrasound itself may not contribute to what we traditionally think of as the "sound" of an explosion, the audible components certainly do. I hope this clarification helps.

@ephysics380123 күн бұрын
@@Wahidnootr-t3q Ultrasonic sounds, which are above the range of human hearing (above 20 kHz), are usually inaudible but can still harm the ears under certain conditions. High-intensity ultrasound, especially above 120 dB, can cause discomfort, pain, or even damage to the inner ear due to vibrations or thermal effects. Prolonged exposure may lead to symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or ear discomfort. While ultrasonic devices like cleaners or medical tools are designed to be safe, improper use of high-power ultrasonic sources can pose risks, so maintaining a safe distance and intensity is essential.
